Instructions1. Using description of the required

panelboard, select the rating andtype of main required.

2. Count the total number of branchcircuit poles, including provisions,required in the panelboard. Do notcount main breaker poles. Convert2- or 3-pole branch breaker tosingle-poles, i.e., 3-pole breaker,count as 3 poles.

Determine sub-feed breaker orthrough-feed lug requirements.

3. Select the main ampere rating

section fromTable 2-4.

4. Select panelboard type from firstcolumn.

5. From Step #2, determine the num-ber of branch circuits in Column 2.

6. Read box size, box and trimcatalogue numbers across columnsto the right. Specify surface or flushmounting on the order.

Fronts are code-gauge steel, ASA-61 lightgray painted finish.

Boxes are code-gauge galvanized steelwithout knockouts. Standard depth is5-3/4 inches (146.1 mm). Standard widthis 20 inches (508.0 mm). An optional 28-inch (711.2 mm) wide box is available.

Panel Layout and Dimensions

To determine the dimensions of a givenpanelboard enclosure, make a layoutsketch by fitting together the main,branch and lug modules according to theappropriate tables in the layout guide.Assign “X” units to each module asshown and obtain a total “X” number.

The height of the enclosure is related tothe total “X” units in the layout as showninTable 2-21. Three standard box heightsare available to accommodate any and alllayout arrangements. “X” unit totals thatdo not exactly match those in Table 2-21 must be rounded off to the next higheststandard (26X, 38X, 50X).

If a calculated “X” total for a panelexceeds 50X, the panel must be split intotwo or more separate sections with “X”space for through-feed lugs figured in forall but one section. If a neutral is re-quired, a separate neutral bar and appro-priate “X” space must be included ineach section.

Panel Layout and Dimensions

To determine the dimensions of a giv enpanelboard enclosure, mak e a layout sketchby fitting together the main, branc h and lugmodules according to the appropriatetables in the layout guide. Assign “X” unitsto each module as sho wn and obt ain a total“X” number.

The height of the enclosure is related tothe total “X” units in the layout as showninTable 2-22. Two standard fusible boxheights are available to accommodateany and all layout arrangements. “X” unittotals that do not exactly match those inTable 2-22 must be rounded off to thenext higher standard (50X).

If a calculated “X” total for a panelexceeds 50X, the panel must be split intotwo or more separate sections with “X”space for through-feed lugs figured in forall but one section. If a neutral is re-

quired, a separate neutral bar and appro-priate “X” space must be included ineach section.

Layout Example

� PRL4F, 3-phase 4-wire, 208Y/120Vcomplete with 400 ampere mainswitch and the following branches:
