HISTORY OF CARMELCarmel Education Society (R) was established in the year 1968, with Mrs.Dorothy Menezes and Late Alexander Menezes as its founding members.
The society under its able leadership runs Carmel High School since 42 years presently affiliated to the ICSE board, New Delhi and catering to nearly 3000 students on its rolls with a staff strength of 120. The school is also affiliated to the State SSLC board having secured 100% results at both board examinations with state ranks in 1991, 1992, 1993 & 1998.
Our institution is one of the six schools in Bangalore to have a tie-up with schools in the United Kingdom (UK) under the UKIERI project (UK – India Educational Research Initiative). The school has also been awarded the International School Award by the British council for 3 years 2010 – 2013, for promoting internationalism in education. These are some of the school’s global, educational cultural exchange programmes for students and teachers.

The school has its own building and playground and has several renowned personalities as its alumni.In 1993, when the Institution celebrated its Silver jubilee, eminent guests as Sri.M.N.Venatachalaiah, former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of India, Sri M.Veerappa Moily, then Chief Minister of Karnataka graced the celebration among other eminent personalities.
On the sports field, the budding athletes and sportsmen have represented the Institution in various sporting events at state and national level.
We are proud to say, that our institution was among the first few to introduce technology in classroom teaching. Our classrooms are equipped with a plasma screen networked to a computer system, enabling the teacher to toggle between blackboard methodology and simultaneous use of technology.
To provide higher education, the society has established a Pre-University College since the year 2002 offering courses in Science and Commerce stream. The results of the college at the board examinations have been good. In the year 2007 & 2009 students of the college had secured the I Rank in the STATE in the CET (Medical) and III Rank in the CET (Architecture) respectively..

On 10th January 2008, a new block of the college Alexander Block was inaugurated by Hon’ble Justice Cyriac Joseph, former Chief Justice of the High court of Karnataka and Dr.U R Anantha Murthy, an eminent Litterateur.
The latest addition to the Institution’s infrastructure is the CARMEL SPORTS ARENA, an indoor-outdoor Sports Complex, was inaugurated on 16th July 2011 in the presence of Sri.S Suresh Kumar, Hon’ble Minister for Law & Parliamentary affairs and Urban Development, Govt. of Karnataka, Sri Arjun Devaiah, International Athlete and other well known sports personalities.
The school and college under the able guidance of its Managing Committee headed by Justice K. Jagannatha Shetty (Rtd),former Judge,High Court of Karnataka has been showing steady progress in its commitment to making its students- physical, social, moral, spiritual and ethical citizens of our country.

So what makes the youth a big power?

LIBRARY :- The need to seek knowledge beyond the walls of the classroom is essential. The well-stocked
library caters to the avid reading needs of the students and it provokes young minds to broaden
their horizons.
COMPUTER LAB:-In a world of inter connectivity, computers play an important role. The school has a
well – equipped computer lab for the use of students. Every student is provided with a PC to
explore the world of technology .The theory and the practical classes attended by these children enable
them to expand their horizon of knowledge.
CAFETERIA :- There is a hygienic cafeteria that caters to the appetite of the students by providing them

ALEXANDER HALL:--In loving and fond memory of late Mr. Alexander Menezes our Founder Secretary of Carmel Education Society, a multi-purpose Hall is
named after him where a variety of events and programmes are held.
ADMINISTRATIVE BLOCK :- This block houses the offices concerned with the management of day-to-
day affairs of the Institution. The offices of the Secretary and the Principal which is adorned with
trophies and shields, is housed here and where parents and visitors interact with the management.

extremely conducive for learning. The concept of e-learning is accorded priority. To this end, every class room from std V-X is provided with a plasma TV connected to a computer
system which is networked to the KNOWLEDGE CENTRE, the storehouse of curriculum related software. Most concepts are clarified by the use of this system. The
SMARTCLASS is supported by Educomp Solutions ltd.KINDERGARTEN:- Education at Carmel begins at the
Kindergarten block. An entire building houses the playhome and Kindergarten classrooms. A well researched curriculum has been developed that is appropriate for each
age group, providing a colorful and enriched learning environment with a view for a holistic development.
AUDIO - VISUAL ROOM:- An exclusive audio-visual room with ample seating which facilitates good and convenient viewing with the necessary technology, makes it an ideal

CARMEL SPORTS ARENA :-Carmel High School hosts every year Alexander Memorial Rolling Trophy for volleyball in memory of its founder Late Alexander
Menezes.The school makes special effort in coaching the
students in cricket, volleyball, athletics and other sporting events.
ENGLISH AND MATH LAB :-"Bend a tree, while still a twig" is afamous saying and keeping in mind, the true
essence of this statement the management has introduced labs in English and Math for students of Class I - IV in order to strengthen basic concepts in
these subjects which is the core around which most areas of academics revolve.

SCHOOL RULES & REGULATIONS• The Management expects every student to maintain the code of
conduct of the school at all times.• Mobile phones and any type of electronic devices are strictly
prohibited inside the School Campus. • The monthly fees should be remitted at the Bursar office by the
specified date in the school diary• Students should have a minimum attendance of 80% every academic
year. Attendance is compulsory on the re-opening day and the last working day of every term.
• Malpractices during the tests and exams will be viewed very seriously.• Any destruction of school property will be viewed seriously. Loss of
books and breakage in the laboratories must be either replaced or compensated for.

SCHOOL RULES & REGULATIONS• Parents can meet the Principal and Administrator on week days
between 10.00am -12.30pm and 3.00pm-4.00pm during working days. If parents wish to meet the class teacher or subject teacher, they can do so after 3.30 p.m on working days with prior intimation/permission.
• Parents are also requested to co-operate in all the activities of the school and encourage their wards to participate in the co-curricular activities of the school.
• Students have to comply with the rules that are detailed in the student diary.
• The school functions from 9.00 am to 3.30 pm on all working days from Monday to Friday and from 8.15 am to 12 noon on Saturdays.

Spark Academy :- Personality Development and Literary activities are conducted by the SPARK Academy, for the students of middle and high school. This programme is being received well by the students.
Yardstick :- This programme has designed model-making and experiments wherein every child gets an opportunity to get involved and learn the concepts through his/her own work. This programme is for students of class V-IX.

Mindspark :- Mindspark is a computer based self learning programme allowing a child to learn at his/her own pace, improving skills in Maths.
Abacus :-Abacus is a fun tool that allows you to to do math mentally. This amazing calculating machine teaches you to manipulate numbers, the correlation of the digits and develop a good understanding of the basic math operations- addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Understanding decimals, exponents and square roots is very easy with abacus.
Competitive exams:- Students are encouraged to take part in ASSET, NSTSE & IAIS Examinations every year. These additional tests of skill and competency are held to help the child assess his/her knowledge level,clear various misconceptions which are hurdles to learning.

Taekwondo :- As part of co-curricular activities,Taekwondo is an option for interested students at Carmel. It is one of the most systematic and scientific Korean traditional martial arts, which teaches more than mere physical fighting skills.Many Carmelites have actively participated in this sport and have excelled at the State, National and International levels.
