Explanation of Add/Drop Dates Students are responsible for attending the class they are enrolled and withdrawing from any class to which they will not attend. So, students should understand that there are consequences to drop a class(s) once the class begins. So, depending on the date of withdrawal, students may drop the class without charges or owe 100%. Students should contact the Admissions Office to drop 1 or more classes (918-647-1302) or the Financial Aid Office to ask about withdrawal consequences with their financial aid (918-647-1343).

LAST DAY TO DROP without Charges or Grade (Drop Date): Students may drop course with 100% refund and have no grade recorded to the transcript.

LAST DAY TO DROP with AUTOMATIC “W” Grade: Students may drop course with zero refund and “W” grade posted to the transcript.

LAST DAY TO DROP with “W” or “F” Grade: Students may drop course with zero refund and “F” or “W” grade (instructor assigns F or W grade).

60 % Withdrawal Date for Students Receiving Financial Aid: Students who accept financial aid through Pell Grant, SEOG Grant, Subsidized Stafford Loan, Unsubsidized Stafford Loan or a Parent PLUS Loan may be required to payback all or part of their aid when complete withdrawal or last date of attendance is made before the 60% of the semester. Note: Students should contact Financial Aid Office when dropping below full-time hours or all classes in a term.

STEPS to DROP one or more Class(s): Students must submit a formal withdraw request to the Office of Admissions or call for instructions. Students who drop all classes after the Drop Date and before the 60% Withdrawal Date must contact the Financial Aid Office to avoid payback of funds or other funding/grade consequences.

First-Time Freshman Admission First-time entering freshman have never attended college or have completed 6 hrs or less after high school or completed some college coursework under concurrent enrollment. Freshmen must submit their credentials once online application is completed (preferred), or with the paper application.

Students must sign up for an ENROLLMENT SESSION date (submit credentials in advance of Enrollment Session date to the Office of Admissions). Student may register online Admissions>>Office of Enrollment after the following are submitted to the Office of Admissions.

1. Application for Admissions, Driver’s License, and Social Security Card or proof of SSN.2. Official high school transcript (final with 12th year term grades, graduation date, & seal) 3. Test scores (SAT or ACT; or ACCUPLACER for the 21+ age student)4. Proof of ID (Driver’s License, and Social Security Card or proof of SSN)

Transfer Admission Transfer students have previously attended another college and earned 7 college hours or more. Transfer students must submit the following credentials with their application and plan their visit to either the Poteau or Sallisaw campus for enrollment.

1. Application for Admissions, Driver’s License, and Social Security Card or proof of SSN.2. Official transcripts from all colleges attended 3. Official high school transcript and test scores when transferring with less than 24 college hours, or when deficiencies or

prerequisites not completed

While students may enroll with an unofficial transcript, OFFICIAL transcripts are required from all colleges previously attended to continue enrollment and for processing of Financial Aid. Students will not be permitted to re-enroll in the next term until the official documents are received, and will not have Financial Aid processed until an official transcript is received. Students transferring with an Academic Suspension at their previous college must submit an APPEAL OF ACADEMIC SUSPENSION for admissions review. Transfer students who have not taken a college-level orientation course may enroll in the LIB or Library research course for orientation credit.

Non-Degree Seeking Admission Students who do not seek a college degree may enroll in no more than 9 cr-hrs (lifetime) without submitting credentials, except, when prerequisites must be met to enroll in certain college courses (ex. ENGL 1113/1213 or college MATH). ACT tests and transcripts should prove prerequisite has been met. Non-degree seeking students enrolling in 10+ cr-hrs per term are considered DEGREE-SEEKING and will be classified as Transfer Student, and will then be required to provide high school and/or college transcripts, and/or test scores. Non-degree seeking students are not eligible for financial aid or scholarships.

Senior citizens 65 years of age and older may attend CASC with application and submission of the Senior Citizen Audit Waiver form and be permitted enrollment with no charges and receive an “AU” audit grade. (See Office of Admissions for Waiver form and enrollment).

Concurrent Admission High school seniors and juniors are eligible for admissions with a high school GPA of 3.0 or 19 ACT composite or 980 SAT. Students may then enroll in subjects in which the subject test score is met. Homeschooled students are considered a Junior or Senior depending on their anticipated secondary school completion (no longer age based). Concurrent students must submit the following credentials with their paper Concurrent Enrollment Application Packet for New Students:

1. Permissions Form 2. High school transcript 3. High School Course Schedule4. ACT or SAT (acceptable are PreACT, National ACT, Residual ACT (1 per year), PSAT 10, or National SAT) 5. Secondary evaluation is available with ACCUPLACER (students must first test with ACT or SAT, then test with in-house Accuplacer)

Re-Admissions to CASC Students re-enrolling with CASC after one semester or longer absence should complete the Re-Admission Application to update records (address, cell phone, residency, etc). Former CASC students may submit the Readmissions Application and any test scores or other college transcripts completed since last attending CASC. Students should schedule an enrollment visit with their Academic Advisor or may self-enroll with VIKECONNECT when degree plan is known, understood, and followed.

ADMISSIONS TESTING CASC uses primarily two placement exams, ACT and Next Generation ACCUPLACER, to place students into appropriate college-level courses or identify remedial or refresher needs before college course enrollments. [SAT and COMPASS (now discontinued) tests are also accepted]. Office of Admissions will record test scores and provide the student with an evaluation of placement or remediation needs.

• First-time students under age 21 must test with ACT (National or Residual ACT) for admissions purposes. • First time students age 21 years or older may test with either ACT or NextGen Accuplacer for admissions purposes. • High School Concurrent students may test with the ACT (National or Residual or PreACT) or SAT (PSAT 10 or National) with

only one Residual ACT permitted per year for admissions purposes.

First-time students will be required to remediate when test scores are low, as measured by ACT or NextGeneration Accuplacer (other testing measurements acceptable). Remediation is met with successful completion of remedial course or re-testing.

ACT Testing (Center Code 034300) CASC is a test center for National ACT. On-line registration for the National ACT is available at www.actstudent.org . Study and test prep materials may be found online at ACT’s website (search for Online Prep). Contact 918-647-1382 for questions.

CASC also offers Residual ACT testing at both Sallisaw and Poteau campuses. Students must pre-pay the $55.00 testing fee at the Business Office prior to testing, and present paid receipt, picture ID, Social Security Number card or number to gain admissions to Residual Testing. Students desiring to enroll under High School Concurrent enrollment are encouraged to test with the National ACT (best for transfer purposes), but, may use ACT Residual test results (one time per year) to determine Concurrent Enrollment admissions and course enrollment eligibility. Residual ACT test scores are valid only at CASC.

Residual ACT Test Schedule (2020) March 12, 26; April 16, 23; May 7, 21; June 11, 25 (valid for Poteau & Sallisaw sites)

Student may reserve their seat by calling:

Poteau ACT Residual testing , OCAE 1322, contact 918-647-1319 to reserve seat and testing location/time

Sallisaw ACT Residual testing, Sallisaw campus, contact 918-775-6977 to reserve seat and testing location/time

Next Generation ACCUPLACER - Placement Testing ACCUPLACER test results are used to measure a student’s readiness to enroll into college level courses, such as ENGL 1113 or college math courses. It can be used as a secondary testing tool for students under age 21, or as a primary testing measurement for students ages 21 and over. High school concurrent students may test with Next-Generation Accuplacer after having first tested with ACT or SAT. Then, the NextGen Accuplacer may be used as a secondary evaluation for course placement purposes.

Students are admitted to CASC, given their CASC student ID number, and may then walk-in for ACCUPLACER testing at either Poteau or Sallisaw campus sites during hours: Monday-Thursday 8:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m., and Friday 8:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.

CASC currently uses ACCUPLACER’ Next-Generation placement tests. The NextGen ACCUPLACER has been redesigned to more effectively help CASC place students into freshman-level courses. Students may find study guides for ACCUPLACER at:

• Next Generation ACCUPLACER: https://accuplacer.collegeboard.org/students/prepare-for-accuplacer/practice• Some materials may also found at the college’s libraries.

REMEDIATION OF LOW TEST SCORES Upon initial admissions, all freshman students are required to demonstrate readiness to enroll into college-level courses of English 1113 Freshman Composition I or college math. When tests scores are below the cut-off score on the ACT or NextGen ACCUPLACER tests, then a deficiency is identified and remediation is required. Students may remove remedial requirement by retesting or enrollment into the appropriate zero-level course. Therefore, once the deficiency in that subject area is remediated by either retest or successful course completion, student may enroll into college-level subjects in that area. Further, students are required to remove deficiency(s) in first 24 credit-hours of enrollment or face an ADMISSIONS HOLD on future enrollments.

CASC’s developmental studies include “fast-track” enrollment or a more intense 3 cr-hr remedial course. Students may co-enroll into the college-level course with a 1 cr-hr “fast-track” or 3 cr-hr remedial course, depending on test score result. CASC uses high school performance measurements (GPA and math core completions) in combination with the test results to determine remedial, fast track, or college-level courses in English and math placement.

Placement and Remediation Assessments CASC evaluates freshman students upon initial admissions using standard test results and high school performance measurements to place students into freshman-level courses, or into remedial co-enrollment with a college-level course of Freshman Composition I and Math. The Office of Admissions will evaluate a student’s credentials and then document course placement to the student’s record and provide a copy of the evaluation for enrollment and advisement.

A copy of the Placement Table under which new students are evaluated may be found in the Office of Admissions (Poteau campus) or Front Office (Sallisaw campus), or online at [ www.carlalbert.edu >> Admissions>> Admissions >> Student Forms]

Concurrent Enrollment students are evaluated on strict guidelines. The Placement Table for High School Concurrent Enrollment students may be found in the Office of Admissions (Poteau campus) or Front Office (Sallisaw campus), or online at [ www.carlalbert.edu >> Admissions>> Admissions >> Student Forms ]

Transfer Student Enrollment Transfer Students are expected to enroll with the assistance of an academic counselor in their major or an Enrollment Management counselor. The counselor will help students understand their placement results and enroll them into courses appropriate in their first term with CASC, and an overview of some “need to know” information! Go online to register your appointment with a Faculty Advisor at: www.carlalbert.edu >> Admissions & Aid >> Connect with an Advisor

Readmissions of Former CASC Students Students who were previously enrolled with CASC and have not attended in one or more semesters are expected to visit with an academic advisor in their major. The academic advisor will help the student understand degree planning and what courses are required to finish their degree and transfer on to the four-year college of their choice. Self-enrollment is available online with VIKECONNECT when students have a clear understanding of degree completion requirements.

High School Concurrent Students and Non-Degree Seeking Student Enrollments Students who enroll with CASC under Concurrent Enrollment must submit their credentials prior to, or at the time of enrollment. Students should check with their high school counselor to decide when best to enroll into next semester classes. Students may submit their enrollment packages in-person as a walk-in, by mail or fax to the Office of Admissions. Admissions personnel will email the student (to their personal email) in confirmation of admissions and “how to“ set up their VIKECONNECT.

Student who are not seeking a degree in higher education or have not earned 9 or more life-time credit hours are categorized as non-degree seeking students and may enroll on a walk-in basis to the Office of Admissions. (Note: Should students desire enrollment into a course requiring prerequisite course completion or minimum testing score, then, other college transcripts or testing will be required and an evaluation reclassify students as New or Transfer student.)

Web-Only Student Enrollment If you are enrolling in all web classes with CASC and expect to receive your degree all online, then, you are considered a Web Student.. You may call CASC’s Director of the Virtual Campus who can assist you in enrollment after completion of online application and submission of credentials ( (918-647-1471 or email: [email protected] ).

Sallisaw Campus Enrollment Students who plan on attending the Sallisaw campus may enroll with an advisor during business hours. Student may contact the Front Office at 918-775-6977 for questions .

Frequently Asked Questions “How to set up VIKECONNECT….“ VIKECONNECT is a student’s personal CASC information and enrollment center where students may view grades and unofficial transcript, see account balances, set up a payment plan, and more. Students must first set-up their VIKECONNECT account; and then have access to their Student Webmail and Blackboard. -- First, students must be admitted and have a CASC ID number. Then, follow these directions:

1. Go to CASC homepage www.carlalbert.edu2. Click on VIKECONNECT >> Click on Reset Password and follow directions

Page 8: CARL ALBERT

Carl Albert State College Summer/Fall 2020 Course Schedule

Hint: check VIKECONNECT for real-time updates to Course Schedule viii

“How to set-up CASC STUDENT WebMail …” Webmail is the email to which CASC offices will “mail” your billing notices, financial aid awards, degree checks, graduation awards, and other important announcements and reminders. So, once enrolled, students are assigned a CASC Student Webmail account to which the college will begin “mailing” correspondence. The college does not mail billing statements or final grades or financial aid award or graduation notices…; students are expected to use their CASC Student Webmail for this purpose.

www.carlalbert.edu >> VIKECONNECT >> CASC Student WebMail

“How to a ccess my WEB CLASSES” Students may access their Blackboard with the same USERNAME and PASSWORD used when setting-up their VIKECONNECT.

Don’t see your class in Blackboard? Have you checked your course schedule and are your enrolled? Are you pre-enrolled in the next term and the current one has not ended yet? You must be enrolled and the term must have ended before your class appears in Blackboard. Typically, the first day of classes is the first day you will have access to your Blackboard course.

Students enrolling in the online sections of Math, Accounting, or other identified courses may have additional charges or access codes to begin/end the course. Students may contact the instructors for log-in instructions.

www.carlalbert.edu >>VIKECONNECT >> Blackboard

“What do I do if I can’t a ttend my cla ss…” If you see you must miss a class, be sure to inform your instructor about the date and reason, and ask about assignments. Ask a classmate for their notes. Remember, it is your responsibility to attend a class and to get caught up when you miss.

Life happens and if you see that you are unable to attend your class for the duration of the term, then, officially drop your class(s) through the Office of Admissions. Students are given a 100% refund when classes are dropped before the Last Day to Drop without Charges or Grade. After this date, students are 100% responsible for tuition/fees charges, and may have to pay back part or all of any Pell Grant moneys when drops occur after disbursement (contact the Financial Aid Office if receiving aid 918-647-1343 for counsel). See Expanded Academic Calendar for add and drop dates, and other dates students should be informed! (found in this publication)

…Step 3: Check List of “things to do before I go to class” ………

Students should be sure the following tasks are checked off your “things to do list” before classes begin. The following lists the contact number for an item on your list:

Enrollment Center 918-647-1372 – Enrollment Advisor Business Office 918-647-1325 -- tuition/fees statement Student Affairs 918-647-1371 -- Parking Decal, CASC ID, and on-campus housing Viking Bookstore 918-647-1390 -- textbook purchases and supplies Financial Aid 918-647-1343 -- Financial assistance Student Success Center 918-647-1264 – tutoring, transfer information, placement testing Sallisaw Campus 918-775-6977 – admissions, enrollment, business, CASC ID, Financial Aid, Bookstore

…Step 4: GO TO CLASS ! ! ! ............................................................................ When students enroll into classes, a seat is reserved for them, charges are figured, instructors are secured, and financial aid is determined. Students are expected to attend classes on day one! So, go to class, ask questions, turn in assignments…understand that one prerequisite to success is showing up for class! We expect regular attendance. Students who miss a class find it has a negative effect on their learning and final grade. Some instructors use class attendance in their final grade awards.

FINANCIAL AID Students are responsible for financing their costs of their educational. Students should fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) each year. The FAFSA is available beginning October 1 for the following academic year. FAFSA gives the financial aid office and scholarship coordinator information regarding your eligibility for certain grants, loans, federal work-study, and scholarships.

The speed by which financial aid is processed and funds are awarded is dependent upon the volume of applications received and the date all requested documents have been turned in. Applying early for financial aid will not only expedite your processing time but may

Page 9: CARL ALBERT

Carl Albert State College Summer/Fall 2020 Course Schedule

Hint: check VIKECONNECT for real-time updates to Course Schedule ix

also result in more funding as some funds may be exhausted before all applications are processed. Once your application is received, the financial aid office will send information to your email account confirming your application and requesting additional documentation to award aid. So, check your personal and CASC email frequently and act quickly to bring in documentation and accept awards. Students may view what documents are needed to complete award and accept awards through VIKECONNECT.

Disbursement of funds: Disbursement dates will be published on-line and on the CASC Financial Aid Newsletter (sent via email). Students are responsible for any unpaid student account balance.

Repayment of funds: Students who receive Title IV funds may be required to payback funds if classes are dropped after the Add/Drop Period. Students should contact the Financial Aid Office for advisement before dropping a class.

Grants and scholarships are funds that students typically do not have to pay back. Loans are borrowed funds that must be paid back with interest after the students ceases to be enrolled, regardless of graduation status.

Need help filling out the FAFSA? Contact an EOC Counselor on the Poteau campus at 918-647-1396 or the Sallisaw campus at 918-775-6977 ext. 2202. Please, bring tax return information and W-2’s.

Please, contact the Financial Aid Office at 918-647-1343 for any questions or to check the status of your financial aid application.

Business Office Students should understand the cost to attend college includes the cost of tuition and fees and other expenses such as dorm room, meals, books, supplies, etc. The cost to attend CASC amount can be paid by the student directly, or by Financial Aid such as Pell Grant, loans, scholarships, Oklahoma Promise, GI Bill, tribal assistance, ….

So, cost to attend minus all aid equals the education cost owed by the student.

A few Business Office FAQ’s:

Students should check their VIKECONNECT > STUDENT tab for account balance or how to make payment on-line.

The Business Office Cashier may be contacted at 918-647-1325 for account or payment information or payment plan.

Do you have questions setting up your payment plan? Call or visit the Cashier at 918-647-1325 or 918-775-6977 (Sallisaw).

Any unpaid balance will prevent re-enrollment, and distribution of official transcript and diploma.

Expecting a refund? When financial aid exceeds the amount of tuition/fee/other charges owed, then, students will get thedifference as a “disbursement” to their new CASC Student ID which also serves as their debit card.

You must log into your VIKECONNECT and choose to send your refund to your personal bank account via Direct Deposit ORto your new Student ID (via Herring Bank). CASC ID cards are printed in the Student Affairs Office (Poteau Campus) or at theFront Office (Sallisaw Campus).

Students should watch their VIKECONNECT account balance. When the student’s account shows a CREDIT amount, then, thestudent will receive those funds (deposit to their new Student ID Card) and at the next advertised dates of disbursement.

Payment Plans Students will incur tuition, fee, and other charges, and may pay this balance over a period of several months using the steps below. Students may select an automatic bank payment (ACH) or by credit card or debit card. Your cost to participate in this payment plan will be a $30 enrollment fee per semester. Your eligibility for the automatic payment plan is based on the status of your Financial Aid Award.

1. Go to www.carlalbert.edu and login to your VIKECONNECT online portal account. 2. Choose STUDENT TAB and click to set up a payment plan (click on big RED button). 3. Select TERM. 4. Click on the PAYMENT PLAN button. 5. Questions on the payment plan may be referred to the Business Cashier at 918-647-1325.
