schedule a SAIL Enrollment Workshop date to enroll into classes as a New Student on the Poteau Campus. (For Sallisaw Campus enrollment, call 918-775-6977 for details):

1. Application for Admissions, Driver’s License, and Social Security Card. 2. Official high school transcript (final with 12th year term grades, graduation date, & seal) 3. Test scores (SAT or ACT, or ACCUPLACER for the 21+ age student)

Transfer Admission Transfer students have previously attended another college and earned 7 college hours or more. Transfer students must submit the following credentials with their application and schedule a SAIL Enrollment Workshop date to enroll into classes as a Transfer Student on the Poteau Campus. (For Sallisaw Campus enrollment, call 918-775-6977 for details):

1. Application for Admissions, Driver’s License, and Social Security Card. 2. Official transcripts from all colleges attended 3. Official high school transcript and test scores when transferring with less than 24 college hours, or when deficiencies or

prerequisites not completed

Students may enroll with unofficial documents, but, may not re-enroll in the next term until the official documents are received, and will not have Financial Aid processed until an official transcript is received. Transfer students who have not taken a college-level orientation course previously may enroll in the LIB or Library research course for orientation credit.

Non-Degree Seeking Admission Students who do not seek a college degree may enroll in no more than 9 cr-hrs (lifetime) without submitting credentials, except, when prerequisites must be met to enroll in certain college courses (ex. ENGL 1113/1213 or college MATH). ACT tests and transcripts should prove prerequisite has been met. Non-degree seeking students enrolling in 10+ cr-hrs per term are considered DEGREE-SEEKING and will be classified as Transfer, and will then be required to provide high school and/or college transcripts, and/or test scores. Non-degree seeking students are not eligible for financial aid or scholarships.

Senior citizens 65 years of age and older may attend CASC with application and submission of the Senior Citizen Audit Waiver form and be permitted enrollment with no charges and receive an “AU” audit grade.

Concurrent Admission High school seniors and juniors are eligible for admissions with a high school GPA of 3.0 or 19 ACT composite or 980 SAT. Students may then enroll in subjects in which the subject test score is met. Homeschooled students are considered a Junior or Senior depending on their anticipated secondary school completion (no longer age based). Concurrent students must submit the following credentials with their paper Concurrent Enrollment Application Packet for New Students:

1. Permissions Form 2. High school transcript 3. High School Course Schedule 4. ACT (PreACT or National or Residual) Test results, or SAT (PSAT 10 or National) 5. Secondary evaluation is available with ACCUPLACER (students must first meet admissions standards with ACT or SAT)

Re-Admissions to CASC Students re-enrolling with CASC after one semester or longer absence should complete the Re-Admission Application to update records (address, cell phone, residency, etc). Former CASC students may submit the Readmissions Application and any test scores or other college transcripts completed since last attending CASC. Enrollment recommended with their academic advisor or through self-enrollment with VIKECONNECT.

ADMISSIONS TESTING CASC uses primarily two placement examinations, ACT and Accuplacer, to place students into appropriate college-level courses or to identify the need for remedial or refresher classes before college course enrollments. (SAT and COMPASS testing tools also accepted). The Office of Admissions will record test scores and provide the student with an evaluation of placement or remediation needs.

First-time students under age 21 must test with ACT (either National or Residual ACT). First time students age 21 years or older may test with either ACT or Accuplacer. High School Concurrent students may test with the ACT (National or Residual or PreACT) or SAT (PSAT 10 or National) with only one Residual ACT permitted per year.

Except for the high school concurrent, students will be required to remediate when test scores are low, as measured by ACT or Accuplacer (other testing measurements acceptable). Remediation is met with successful completion of refresher courses or re-testing.

ACT Testing (Center Code 034300) CASC is a test center for National ACT. On-line registration for the National ACT is available at www.act.org. Study and test prep materials may be found online at ACT’s website (search for Online Prep).

CASC also offers Residual ACT testing at both Sallisaw and Poteau campuses. Several changes have been made to testing procedures. Students must pre-pay the $45.00 testing fee, and present this paid receipt, picture ID, Social Security Number card or number to gain admissions to Residual Testing. Students desiring to enroll under High School Concurrent enrollment should test with the National ACT (best for transfer), but, may use ACT Residual test results (one time per year) to determine Concurrent Enrollment course enrollment eligibility. Residual ACT test scores are only valid at CASC.

Residual ACT Test Schedule (dates valid for both Poteau & Sallisaw campus locations) (2018) April 10, April 17; May 8,15; June 12, 19; July 12, 26; August 2; September 6, 20; November 8, 15; December 6

(2019) January 10, 17, 24; February 7, 14, 21; March 7, 14; April 11, 18; May 9, 16; June 6, 13

Student should enroll online at https://carlalbert.edu/student-services/testing to reserve a seat and confirm day/time for either the Poteau or Sallisaw test sites. Students must present paid receipt and picture ID, and have Pencils and ACT approved calculator allowed.

Poteau All ACT Residual tests are held in OCAE 1320 at 1:00 p.m. (Questions? Students may call 918-647-1319)

Sallisaw All ACT Residual testing is held at the Sallisaw campus at 9:00 a.m. (Questions? Students may call 918-775-6977).

ACCUPLACER - Placement Testing The ACCUPLACER test results are used to measure a student’s readiness to enroll into college level courses, such as ENGL 1113, college math and science courses. Students must first be admitted to CASC and receive a CASC student ID number, and may walk-in for admissions/testing to the Poteau campus and telephone to confirm testing availability for the Sallisaw campus (918-775-6977).

Students may find ACCUPLACER study guides at: https://accuplacer.collegeboard.org/students/accuplacer-tests . Some materials may also found at the college’s libraries. After the high school concurrent tests initially with ACT or SAT, then, the student may test for a secondary evaluation with the Accuplacer exam.

REMEDIATION OF LOW TEST SCORES CASC tests students upon initial admissions to measure readiness to enroll into college-level courses of English 1113 Freshman Composition I or college math. When tests scores are below the cut-off score on the ACT or ACCUPLACER tests, then a deficiency is identified and remediation is required. Students may remove remedial requirement by retesting or enrollment into the appropriate zero-level course. Therefore, once the deficiency in that subject area is remediated by either retest or successful completion of the refresher course, the student may then enroll into college-level subjects in that area. Furthers, students are required to remediate and successfully remove deficiency in the first 24 credit-hours of enrollment or face an ADMISSIONS Hold on future enrollments.

CASC’s developmental studies include an alternate “fast-trac” enrollment where eligible students may co-enroll into the college-level course with a one cr-hr “refresher” lab. CASC uses high school performance measurements (GPA and math core completions) in combination with the ACT test results to determine remediation or fast trac or college readiness in English and math placement. The table below outlines CASC’s remediation and assessment policy. These cut-off scores are used by the Office of Admissions to evaluate a student’s initial placement into college-level coursework (in English, Math, and Sciences) or into remedial coursework.

Placement and Remediation Assessments The Placement and Remediation Assessments table for first-year entering freshman may be found online: see Admissions>>New Student Enrollment.

The Course Placement table for Concurrent Enrollment high school students may be found online: see Admissions>>New Student Enrollment.

CASC ‘s Assessment Plan evaluates incoming freshman students upon initial admissions using the following test results and high school performance measurements and places freshman students into freshman-level courses or remedial courses. CASC uses testing and multiple measurements to place students into college level courses or deficiency enrollment courses. The Office of Admissions will evaluate a student’s credentials and then document course placement to the student’s record and provide a copy of the evaluation to the SAIL Enrollment Workshop team for enrollment and advisement.

All first-time entering students should enroll in ORI 1111 Freshman Orientation, ENGL 1113 Freshman Composition I, CS 1103 Microcomputer Applications, and into any deficiency courses required. Orientation credit will be awarded for participants in the Choctaw Nation’s Camp Chata and met with CASC courses: LEAD 1413 CASC Leadership or COSU 1103 College Success. Transfer Students who have not previously completed a college-level orientation class may alternately enroll in CASC’s LIBRARY (LIB 1011) research course.

The FAFSA will give the financial aid office and scholarship coordinator information regarding your eligibility for certain grants, loans, federal work-study, and scholarships.

The speed by which financial aid is processed and funds are awarded is dependent upon the volume of applications received and the date all requested documents have been turned in. Applying early for financial aid will not only expedite your processing time but may also result in more funding as some funds may be exhausted before all applications are processed. Once your application is received, the financial aid office will send information to your CASC email account informing the student and requesting additional documentation. Check your CASC email frequently and act quickly to bring in documentation and accept awards. Students may accept awards through VIKECONNECT.

Disbursement of funds: Disbursement dates will be published on-line and on the CASC Financial Aid Newsletter (sent via email). Students are responsible for any unpaid student account balance.

Repayment of funds: Students who receive Title IV funds may be required to payback funds if classes are dropped after the Add/Drop Period. Students should contact the Financial Aid Office for advisement on this issue.

Grants and scholarships are funds that students typically do not have to pay back. Loans are borrowed funds that must be paid back after the students ceases to be enrolled, regardless of graduation status.

Need help filling out the FAFSA? Contact an EOC Counselor on the Poteau campus at 918-647-1396 or the Sallisaw campus at 918-775-6977 ext. 2202. Please, bring tax return information and W-2’s.

Please, contact the Financial Aid Office at 918-647-1343 for any questions or to check the status of your application.

Business Office Students should understand the cost to attend college includes the cost of tuition and fees and other expenses such as dorm room, meals, books, supplies, etc. The cost to attend CASC amount can be paid by the student directly, or by Financial Aid such as Pell Grant, loans, scholarships, Oklahoma Promise, GI Bill, tribal assistance.

So, cost to attend minus all aid equals the education cost owed by the student.

A few Business Office FAQ’s:

Students should check their VIKECONNECT > STUDENT tab for account balance or how to make payment on-line.

The Business Office Cashier may be contacted at 918-647-1325 for account or payment information.

Do you have questions on how to set up your payment plan? Call or visit the Cashier at 918-647-1325 or the Sallisaw office at 918-775-6977.

Any unpaid balance will prevent re-enrollment, and distribution of official transcript and diploma.

Expecting a refund? When financial aid exceeds the amount of tuition and fee charges, then, students will get the difference in the form of a “disbursement check”. These CASC checks will be available to students on published dates of disbursement.

Students should watch their VIKECONNECT account balance. When the student’s account shows a CREDIT amount, then, the student will receive those funds (by check) and at the next advertised dates of disbursement.

Students may then pick-up their disbursement check at either the Poteau Campus (Business Office 918-647-1325) or Sallisaw Campus (Front Desk 918-775-6977), or by telephone to either campus for mailing preference. Students whose campus location is officially designated as “Sallisaw Campus” will have those disbursement checks available at the Sallisaw Campus (phone call preference is not necessary). Checks not picked-up will be mailed at a later date in the semester.

If you are a Sallisaw student, then, refund checks will be available during published disbursement dates in the Front Office at Sallisaw campus.

Payment Plans Students will incur tuition and fee charges, and may pay over a period of several months using the steps below. Students may select an automatic bank payment (ACH) or by credit card or debit card. Your cost to participate in this payment plan will be a $25 enrollment fee per semester. Your eligibility for the automatic payment plan is based on the status of your Financial Aid Award. If your Financial Aid application is incomplete when your register for classes, you may not be able to take advantage of the deferred payment option. (Students participating in a SAIL Enrollment Workshop will learn how to set up a payment plan!)

1. Go to www.carlalbert.edu and login to your VIKECONNECT online portal account. 2. Choose STUDENT TAB and click to set up a payment plan. 3. Select TERM. 4. Click on the PAYMENT PLAN button. 5. Questions on the payment plan may be referred to the Business Cashier at 918-647-1325.
