October, 2018Dear Staff,  Classes are in full swing, our colleagues in Vermont are enjoying early glimpsesof vibrant autumn foliage, and there are pumpkins growing in Our Green ThumbCommunity Garden…Fall has of�cially begun! As always, this season brings withit an exciting gauntlet of activities for everyone at MIIS.  The month of October will include a Length of Service Ceremony;  a family-friendly Open House at the Monterey Sports Center for MIIS staff, faculty andstudents;  Fall Preview Days events for prospective students;  an EmployeeDevelopment, Coaching, & Mentoring Workshop;  and a Halloween HappyHour! We look forward to seeing you at these events and many more to come. -Staff Advisory Team

we celebrate faculty and staff who have reached a significant milestonein their years of service. We will recognize colleagues who have

Student Services, in collaboration with the Vice President's Office, is sponsoring an event at the Monterey Sports Center reserved exclusively for MIIS!

Staff, faculty, students, and their guests, are all invited and encouraged to attend. 

Student, staff or faculty ID required for entry; All guests must arrive with their accompanying host.

MIIS will be hosting prospective students on the Friday and Saturday of

October 19th – 20th to showcase our campus facilities, academic programs,

faculty, and support services. Staff are invited to learn more about the

event, and direct interested students to register here.

 Join Melissa Sorenson for an introductory workshop on employee development,coaching, and mentoring. This workshop is open to all types of roles, whether youare currently in a position to support the development of others, or might be lookingfor ways to support your own development. We will discuss tools and strategies foridentifying goals, mapping development plans, and providing or seeking guidanceand support along the way.   Employee development, coaching, and mentoring was one of the top areas ofinterest from the recent Training & Development Survey, and we hope you are ableto take advantage of this skill building opportunity. As mentioned in the previousSAT newsletter, a workshop on project and process management is also in theworks, stay tuned!

MIIS News & Updates

Initial Resource Launch: MIIS Leadership Group Updates

 In an effort to raise awareness about the work of the leadership groups at theInstitute, we are working on a new resource to regularly share leadership groupinformation and updates. The resource has just gotten off the ground with a firstround of updates from the Institute Leadership Group (ILG), but we hope toincorporate updates from the Faculty Senate, Staff Advisory Team, and InstituteCouncil in the near future. New Hires

Jeanne Colletto

Jeanne Colletto has joined the Human Resources Team and  will be working on atemporary, part-time basis to assist with timesheet/payroll processing for both MIISand Middlebury. Prior to coming to the Institute, Jeanne worked for the City ofMonterey and the Monterey County Department of Social Services. Her office is inCasa Fuente Suite 437, and she can be reached at extension 4687 and atjcolletto@miis.edu.

Noah Reeves

Noah is a Monterey local with a continuously growing tenure in the local communitytheatre and music education scene. He is a multi-instrumentalist, music director, andaudio/video/lighting technician with a background in interpersonal communication.After passing by campus countless times throughout his life, Noah is excited to bringhis expertise and knowledge to the staff, faculty, and students of MIIS, and gratefulfor the opportunity to continue giving back to the community that he grew up in.

Another Great All Staff Meeting!

At the October meeting Pushpa Iyer discussed her new role as the Chief Diversity

Officer at MIIS, Thor Sawin shared updates from the Faculty Senate, and SATopened a voting poll for re-naming the meetings. Thank you Pushpa and Thor for

being our guest speakers and thank you to all who attended. If you were unable toattend, a summary of the meeting is available here. Video coming soon.
