Our 2013 Year 4 Camp will be held on Monday 13 May

and Tuesday 14 May

EOTC Objectives• To provide learners with opportunities to problem solve and reach out

and try new ideas.

• To develop perseverance and resilience.

• To experience independence away from home and family

• Apply the Four Peaks values within an Education Outside the Classroom setting. Our key value we will be working on will be “Respect” - What do we did to know about visiting a Marae?

• Respect for self

• Respect for others - To respect the differences in others and use their strengths

• Respect for the special environments we will be working in

• To provide experiences in a safe and healthy environment which may be a base for life long experiences

EOTC Objectives and Aims

• To increase children’s knowledge of their own locality and heritage - linking the NZ Curriculum goals in Social Sciences

• To assist the development of confidence, a sense of adventure, and an attitude of responsibility, particularly towards their own and others safety and the environment

• To assist student’s social development through interacting with others in situations different to their everyday lives

• Using skills and strategies (key competencies) from the New Zealand Curriculum and applying them while at camp and when the students return to school. Special focuses will be on story telling, researching history of the area, and the visual arts.

Southern Experience Day 1

•Approximate times

•8.15am children to arrive and meet in hall and packing the bus

•8.45 am Register and board bus

•9.00 am Depart to Bluff

•10.00 am morning Tea stop at Lumsden

•11:30 am Stirling Walk and Lunch

•2.00 pm Arrive at Te Rau Aroha Marae

•Welcoming ceremony - (Powhiri) followed by afternoon tea

•Rotation of Cultural Activities

•Dinner

•Storytelling and then Bed at 9pm

• Students will need to bring for Monday:•morning tea and snack for the walk•a packed lunch •a drink bottle •Please ensure lunchbox and drink bottle are named

• The Marae will be providing on Monday•afternoon tea •evening meal

• Tuesday - breakfast and packed lunch.

Fine Day Programme•Adventure Southland site in Lorneville•climbing •abseiling•low ropes course•team building•archery/air rifles•flying fox

•Return to Queenstown around 5pm

• The following gear needs to fit into a Small day back pack

• lunch and drink bottle

• Waterproof jacket

• Warm fleece or jumper

• Sunhat, beanie- warm woollie hat

• Fluro vest• ALL ITEMS NEED TO BE WELL NAMED!!!!!!

Parent Helpers Role• Be responsible for all children, start with other pupils before their own

• Be responsible for the welfare of the group

• Lead a group of students through the activities including duties

• Follow the camp rules

• Follow directions of the teachers

• Set a good example

• Be keen enthusiastic and inquisitive about the places we visit and activities we do.

• Parent helpers have not yet been selected. The selection process is names drawn

• from a hat and we will be confirming parent helpers by the end of Week 10 12 April.

• Briefing Session - Week 1 Wednesday 8 May

• for all parent helpers going on camp

• At this meeting you will receive a full camp booklet at a briefing session prior to attending camp. This will fully outline the programme activities, procedures to ensure the safety of everyone at camp and give some background information about the area.

Yr 4 FundraisingFor each Entertainment Book Sold @$55 the Year 4’s will receive $11 to go towards the cost of camp.

TIMELINE:

• Calling for Parent Volunteers - Thank you to Tara Burns who has kindly volunteered as Yr 4 Team Leader for this fundraiser

• Coffee Morning at the Tin Goose 9am this Thursday 14 March for anyone interested in assisting

• Next week a flyer will go out in the newsletter (class lists will be formed)

• Tuesday 9 April (Books to be sorted and ready for distribution)

• Wednesday 10 April (Books distributed)

• Returned on the 15 April (checking and orders placed)

• Between now and camp to see if we can sell as many as we can! (Seek friends, businesses etc - we will be emailing out a letter for parents of Year 4 to send out

The Nuts and Bolts• We are on camp Monday 13 May and Tuesday 14 May

• We will be taking: 60 Year 4 students, 4 Teachers and 12 parent helpers

• Camp payments - $95 per student TBC (please pay at the office)

• Look out for emails while we are away: We will email through an update on what the campers have been up to on the Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning. Please check your emails on Tuesday afternoon for confirmation of arrival home

• Concerns prior to camp please see us.

• We will contact you if your child is upset during camp

• Sharing the ‘Southern Experience’ Assembly will be held a couple of weeks after our Year 4 campers return.
