Riders, owners, and trainers must be current active members of USEF and USHJA before the start of the class (GR202). Riders must complete a USHJA exhibitor declaration form to receive points. If the exhibitor declaration form is not complete and submitted to the show office prior to the conclusion of the competition, riders will not receive points in their respective hunter divisions for the derby class. There is no limit to the number or horses that a rider may ride. Horses are not required to show in any other hunter classes at the horse show.

The first round will be a regular hunter classic course consisting of at least ten fences at 3’0” in height with four option fences at 3’5” in height. The top 12 entries will return for a second round over a handy hunter course consisting of at least eight fences at 3’0” in height with four option fences at 3’5” in height. Two judges shall sit together and throw one score. After the judges’ score is given, one point will be added for each high option fence jumped (maximum of four points per round). Scores from both rounds will be added together to determine placings. Horses entered in this class will not be required to jog for soundness. Any unsoundness during the competition will be reflected in the scores from the judges.
