Help Support Kairos With Cookies John Ashley (a member of Calvary who sings with the Occasional Choir) is preparing for the Kairos Prison Ministry 3 day weekend. He will be going into a maximum security prison as part of a 25 man team to spread the gospel to the inmates. Because the team feeds cookies to the entire prison population, they must collect over 3000 dozen cookies. Each team member is responsible to bring 100 to 125 dozen homemade cookies. Please consider making cookies for this ministry. These cookies have a very powerful effect on the inmates as they experience the Love of Christ and the atmosphere of the whole institution changes over this weekend. John needs to collect all the cookies by Sunday October 23. If you need the specifics on how to prepare and store the cookies or have questions about this ministry please contact John or Amy Ashley at (703) 646-4144 or [email protected] . Further information on the cookies is also available at http://kairos-bkcc.org/ under the heading documents. Family Ministries Youth Group Youth group is getting spooky this month! Calvary Serves Health Kit Assembly on Sunday, November 6 The Calvary Missions Team is sponsoring an event to package Health Kits for shipment to the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) for world-wide distribution to areas of greatest need. The event is scheduled for 12:30pm on Sunday , November 6 in Harris Hall immediately after the coffee hour. Instructions on how to pack a Health Kit can be found at http://www.umcor.org/UMCOR/Relief-Supplies/Relief-Supply-Kits/Health. All the materials will be provided and instructions will be available for participants on November 6. Please plan to lend a helping hand to this important mission effort.

Children’s School Serves Too The 4 and 5 year old class of Calvary Children's School provided, prepared and delivered over 80 lunches to feed people who are homeless this past week. Families brought in the items necessary (meat, cheese, bread, applesauce, cookies, chips, water, spoons and napkins) and on Thursday, the children worked in two groups to make the bagged lunches or prepare the sandwiches. They read "Uncle Willie and the Soup Kitchen," talking about those who live among us and are in need of assistance. We prayed for those who would receive the lunches after we made them. Thanks to the Dundon family for delivering our lunches! This same class is collecting canned food for Arlington Food Assistance Shelter, and the Haley family will deliver their contributions (along with the ones that YOU bring on Communion Sunday, the first of the month). Excellent God work, folks.

Family Ministries Growing Things The Family Ministries at Calvary has been able to use an outdoor space to create a classroom. Growing things, natural observations, and outdoor experiences are part of the dream for this space. Do you have heart for this? A meeting of those interested will be Sunday, October 30 at 12:30pm. All ideas are welcome! Contact Beth Posey [email protected] for more information!

Names for College Boxes Sought It’s that time again- to start collecting addresses for those young adults at college! Our family ministries send a box of goodies to our students as a pick-me-up before finals for the semester, and to remind them THEY ARE LOVED. To include a student, please send addresses to [email protected]. Boxes should go out by the beginning of November. The cost of mailing a box is $12, which comes out of our family ministries budget.

Have something to post in Calmeth News?
