CREED by Adam Hamilton CREED: What Christians Believe and Why by Adam Hamilton is our church-wide study and sermon series beginning October 15. This study explores questions like: Is there a God? How can we know? What evidence is there that God exists? Does it really matter one way or another? If there is a God, what is God like? Phantom of the Opera Saturday, October 21 at 7pm Calvary United Methodist Church is proud to present a free showing of the 1925 silent film Phantom of the Opera. Popcorn and drinks will be provided free of charge and organist Michael T. Britt, of Baltimore, will provide live accompaniment.

Confirmation Information Next Sunday, October 22, at 3pm, parents and students interested in learning more about confirmation will meet to talk with Pastor Matthew about what the process and content of Confirmation looks like at Calvary UMC. If you (and your student) are interested in learning more about this, even if you’re not certain you are able to commit at this time, please come to our informational meeting.

Cookies for Kairos Bring them on Sunday, October 15 John Ashley and Rev. Steve Hassmer are both serving on the next Kairos weekend and you can support them by providing cookies. They are needed no later than Tuesday, October 17 (so bring them Sunday, October 15). Please Bake Cookies! These cookies have a very powerful effect on the inmates as they experience the Love of Christ and the atmosphere of the whole institution changes over this weekend. Kairos always welcomes prayers, homemade decorated posters (to hang up), decorated placemats (no stickers or glitter). THIS Saturday, October 14 From 10am to 2pm This is our first Parents Afternoon Out of the season! Children are welcome to come and play with our lovely staff while parents get a little break! Cost is $20 for one child $40 for two or more children. Register on the Calvary website www.calmeth.org. Click on get involved, PAO registration. Children should bring a lunch (with no nuts or nut butters). During this PAO, Jeanne Havermans will lead a Children’s Clothing Swap where folks bring clothes their children have outgrown and take clothes they will be able to wear. You don’t have to bring clothes to take clothes, and you don’t have to take clothes if you bring some. If you know of someone in need in our area, this is a great opportunity to help others! Calvary Has a Choir for You! There are several musical opportunities at Calvary. For the Chancel, Handbell, Children’s, and Youth Handbell Choir please contact Mickey Fuson for information. Chancel Choir: Rehearsal: Thursday, 8-9:30pm and at

10:30am on Sunday morning. Chancel Choir sings at the 11am worship service each Sunday (September - July).

Adult Handbell Choir: Thursday from 7-8pm and then perform about 6 times a year.

Children's Choir: for second graders and older and meets on Sundays at 9:30am. We sing at the 11am service about 6 times a year.

A NEW CHOIR!! The Youth Handbell Choir: for grades 5-8. It meets on Sunday from 12:15-12:45pm. Grab a snack at coffee hour and come to Memorial Hall

The Occasional Choir: sings periodically at the 8:30am worship service. They meet in the morning at 8am to practice the piece to be shared that day during worship. If you are interested, please contact Wayne Kemp.

Love is Beautiful An Afternoon of Art and Music The Arts Council of Metropolitan Memorial UMC presents an Afternoon of Art and Music Sunday, October 15. At 3pm in the sanctuary, there will be a concert version of La Bohème by Puccini featuring Melissa Chavez, Elliot Matheny, Nicholas Carratura, and Lindsay Esponosa. At 4:30pm is the Exhibition Opening and Reception in the Great Hall “Love Is Beautiful: Sumi-e Paintings” by Yoshiko Oishi Weick. She will be at the opening and available to sign copies of her book. While the exhibition continues through November 26, M – F, 9am – 5pm, and Sunday 9am – 12:30pm, on Sunday, October 22 Yoshiko will provide a demonstration of her artwork.
