Students individually answer a set of complex questions centered on common topic or problem.

Ex: Write a story about what happens when you get a robot of your own. Use information and details from the sources to improve your story.

Ex: Students are familiarized with food baskets. They discuss how they are used and how food is selected.
Performance Task
Ex: Students are given requirements for a food basket and asked a set of questions using mathematics to plan and make decisions about their food basket.
IUSD Preparation
Since 2011, IUSD teachers have been learning about the Common Core Standards.
In 2013, six IUSD schools participated in the Smarter Balanced Pilot Assessment.
In 2014, all IUSD schools participated in the Smarter Balanced Field Test.
Today, all IUSD schools are technologically and academically prepared for the first year of the fully operational Smarter Balanced Assessments.
