The 1 liter CI engine delivers the best fuel consumption vs mph. The 1 liter SI engine delivers the best fuel consumption vs mph at lower RPM, but the 2 liter delivers better at higher RPM. The SI engine is better at lower mph, but the CI engine is better at higher mph. This makes sense because a typical car with a CI engine gets better fuel economy on the highway than an equivalent SI engine.D. 2 Liter CI w/ Overdrive

The engine containing the overdrive gear came out to have a lower fuel consumption for any given speed. This means they have a better fuel economy and are more efficient than those without overdrive. E. Yes, because the higher gear ratio has a higher BMEP for a given RPM which means it produces more power at that RPM. This means that the overdrive has lower fuel rate and consumption.G. At 3000 RPM the available BMEP to the CI engines is 850 kPa. The 1 and 2 liter engines use 600 and 300 kPa respectively. This means they use 70 and 35 percent of the total. The significance of this is that it shows how much of the engine performance is lost due to friction in the drive train and the load of the road being added to the engine.
