BURRANEER BAY PUBLIC SCHOOL NEWSLETTER TERM 4 – WEEK 7

A Message from our Principal, Ms Pantelis

Future Leaders

The school formally recognises the wonderful achievements of our talented pupils and exemplary school citizens through our Presentation Day Assemblies. Our school community values are the platform from which many of our students are rewarded for their dedicated efforts, outstanding contributions and high level of participation in all areas of their learning. This is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the achievements of our students and I would like to congratulate all of the students for their hard work that they have done this year. Congratulations to all recipients of Awards. Special congratulations to our School Captains for 2019: Jemima H and Jack S, as well as Vice Captains: Poppy F and Hamish D. Congratulations to the following students that have been successful in gaining a Prefect position in 2019. They are Beau C, Charlie P, Jamaica J, Hayden T, Sari M and Zarah P.

I wish to take this opportunity in congratulating all the students nominated for this position and trust that they will enjoy leadership opportunities presented throughout the year.

Our students (and teachers) have demonstrated their talents today at the “Back by popular demand” show from our 125 Year celebration and I very much look forward to our Creative Arts Night concert tonight at 6:30pm in the hall.

We have our Primary Sports Presentation Assembly at 12pm on 11 December in the hall.

Many great events to look forward to. Hope to see you there!

It isn’t what you have, or who you are, or where you are, or what you are doing that makes you happy or unhappy. It is what you think about. Dale Carnegie – 1888-1955, Author and Speaker

Warmest Regards,

Ms.V.Pantelis.

DEPUTY PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

Presentation Days Years K-2 and 3-6 On Wednesday 5 December, we celebrated the achievements of students from K-6 at our Presentation Day assemblies. Thank you all for your positive feedback. The TV screens that were placed under the Cola were a huge hit. Thank you to Mr. & Mrs. Lamb for organizing these and to Mr. Bulmer for his support. Thank you to all the parents and grandparents who attended the assemblies. It really means a lot to the

students and staff to have you share these special days with us. It was wonderful to have so many

members of our school community attend our Presentation Days. It is very important for us to recognise

the achievements of our students and equally important for us to have the school community celebrate

these achievements with us.

The K-2 Presentation was a beautiful celebration of Christmas. The grade items brought a smile to

everyone’s face. It was impossible not to be moved by the enthusiasm and sheer delight of every child as

they took to the stage to perform.

Ethics Coordinator and Ethics Teachers for Burraneer Bay Public School Dear Parents and Carers, Ethics classes are available at Burraneer Bay Public School as an option for children who do not attend Special Religious Education (scripture). Ethics classes support children in developing skills in ethical reasoning, critical thinking, collaborative enquiry and how to support their arguments with evidence. The lesson materials have been approved by the Department of Education. We do not have enough volunteer ethics teachers to meet the demand for classes in 2019. We are also looking for a volunteer to coordinate the ethics program at Burraneer Bay Public School. Volunteering is a great way to engage with the school. The Ethics Coordinator is a very social role and would suit people with good organizational skills. It acts as a liaison between Primary Ethics and the school and organises recruitment and coordinates the Ethics Teachers. The time is flexible, approximately 1-2 hours per week and can be done predominantly online. Structured training for the ethics coordinator is provided online. Volunteer ethics teachers do not need a background in teaching or ethics, just a willingness to learn how to deliver classes. They must complete a two-day workshop and other online training and accreditation requirements. The approved lesson materials are provided. Ethics teachers must commit to conduct classes each week at the school during school terms for at least one year. The more children and stages we have requests for, the more teachers will be needed. For more information about Primary Ethics, the curriculum or to volunteer as an ethics coordinator or teacher, please visit www.primaryethics.com.au where you can complete an on-line application.
