WelcomeWelcomeIt is with great pleasure that I once again welcome you to Buzzard

Hollow Ranch for the 19th annual, “Designer’s Classic – The Fleck

Advantage.” The bottom line is this is a peoples business and for

the most part people were the missing link in the 2012 on-line

sale, which was a great success.

I have fought another year, as many of you have, of DROUGHT.

The winter of 2011 was good so the fall born heifers are big and

stout. The spring born’s suffered again but they are coming

together and will be ready by sale day.

Speaking of the drought, without the help of Talley Fanning &

David Ficken of Huntsville, AL, Chris Phelps of Mississippi and

John Nimmo of Illinois, who took BHR cows and cared for them,

my herd would be a lot smaller than it is now. Many thanks for

helping keep the breeding program in tact at BHR.

The offering will consist of 70 lots of Full Flecks & Simbrahs

that are Fleck influenced. Also included will be a select set of

purebreds and ½ bloods that again are Fleck influenced to

show, “The Fleck Advantage,” in real time. Selling will

be flushes, semen, breds and opens in each set of

genetics along with proven mature cows that go back to

some of the most elite genetics in the breed.

It seemed only fitting to offer a flush out of the next generation of theASHANTE cow family, since this will be the last chance to purchase embryosfrom Ashante. Wee-Mingh Fung, from Panama, purchased PIPPER in the2012 Designers Classic as a bred heifer and did it work just look at the Sar-gent Rote heifer calf that is following her around. We have already talked ex-tensively about Pipper's dam’s pedigree where you saw the consistencycreated by using the German breeding scheme. I did the same thing in pro-ducing PIPPER. When I decided to call this, “THE FLECK ADVANTAGE SALE”, I wanted toshow exactly how Fleck's produced when mated to other breeds. I guessif I wanted to TALK THE TALK, I HAD TO WALK THE WALK and this iswhat this sale is all about. Arissa’s dam BHR LOTTIE'S DESIGN F156Ewas not full Fleck, so no one would even look at her, even though mostthought she was the best cow I owned, so I bred her to a power RedAngus bull and produced Arissa; that with several of the full Flecks isthe best female ever produced at BHR. Her birth wt. was 89 lbs., wean-ing weight 705 lbs., with a yearling wt. of 1065 lbs. Her ultra sound data proved the rest: back fat 0.24, rib eye 12.80 sq. inches, with an IMF of 4.58. Arissathen went on to produce females like BHR X204, a natural calf and embryo calves like BHR Zoya Z148E and BHR Saban Z760E. Zoya had a birth weight of 82pounds, weaned at 625 pounds, yearling weight of 984 while her full brother had a birth weight of 84 pounds, weaning weight of 937 pounds and a yearlingweight of 1204 pounds. Ultra sound showed Zoya with 0.18 back fat, 11.02 sq. in. Rib, with 4.63 IMF while Saban had 0.41 back fat, with a 13.33 sq. in. Rib and5.43 IMF. Zoya's frame is 6.20 and Saban's is a 6.18. Arissa is a first generation half blood and has proven, through her progeny, that the second generation isas good as or better than she is especially if you add another touch of Fleck on the top side as was done with Zoya and Saban. The biggest problem that I haveis what sire do I use next to keep the Fleck percentage as close to 1/2 as possible in my quest for the next set of second generation 1/2 bloods. Selling theright to flush Arissa to the sire of your choice. The flush to be preformed at BHR and BHR guarantees a minimum of 6 viable embryos with a 50% conceptionrate if work is done by an approved embryologist. Buyer will receive all viable embryos up to 10 and they then will be split 50-50 with BHR. Arissa has beenflushed 4 times and has averaged 18.75 viable embryos per flush.

First, I need to thank Billy Hall and Ratcliff Ranches for taking a leap of faith to produceoutcross 1/2 bloods. I also need to thank Joe Bob Pruitt for planting the seedin Billy's mind to use Fleckvieh genetics to do this project. He selected his bestdonor to flush; the RR Idessa 2291, an N Bar Emulation EXT daughter out ofRR Idessa 7375 and the results were what we had expected, exceptional!!! Itproved that Fleckvieh have a place in the beef cattle industry. I also need tothank Trevor Tuell of Tuell Cattle in Colorado, who now owns a part of RRJSThree Sixes, for developing him in Colorado after weaning. RRJS 329W is one of three females produced by flushing RR Idessa 2291 to the full Fleckvieh sire BHR THREESIXES L666E. The first two sold to Mexico and 329W was retained by Ratcliff Ranches until I traded them out of their 1/2 interest in her this last year. 329W has mothercow written all over her. Excellent length of spine, good hipped, sound feet and legs, a lot of depth and shape to her rib, and as attractive as she can be in the front end. Shedid an excellent job with her first calf in a very difficult year in Oklahoma. 329W presents the same problem as BHR R389, as to what to use to create the second genera-tion 1/2 blood that still maintains about 1/2 Fleckvieh or higher. I am going to use the polled 31/32 Fleckvieh sire that I own with Woonallee Simmentals in Australia,Woonallee BHR Tornado that has done such an excellent job at Tom and Lizzy's. This will create 3/4 Fleckvieh second generation cattle that then can be used to create thepurebred Simmentals to fit the needs of the industry. Teanna was acquired from Cecil Peters in a trade. She was a calf at side of a T2Kier H60, a Porterhouse Regent son, out of RHY Anita 89D, the Romulus out ofGreat Guns Rachel 29X. Her dam PFR Jeanna P2 was a GoldRush daughter thattraces back to Siegfried and Metz. Siegfried, Romulus, Antonius, Panzer andMonet can all be found in this pedigree. Her sire is a 5/8 - 3/8 Simbrah thatbrings in C&B Incumbent and BHR Topaz the BHR Orange River daughter out ofSCC Kimberely S612F, so you have added that great cow family again of CongosimSusi and Voightland Selli 71. Teanna is a 3/4 Simmental 1/4 Brahman female that is 68.67 % Fleck that just milks her heart out and looks like warmed over death until youwean her calf. Mona represents old world genetics at their best. A Bold daughter, out of a Hackenbergdaughter whose dam was by Argonne, out of a Panzerbred female. Bred heifers make up lots 11 through 36 which include Flecks, Simbrahs and Purebreds. All the heifers were synchronized for a time breeding, whichoccurred on March 6, 2013. The repeat heats will be AI'ed during the last days of March and the first week in April. Each heifer that cannot be confirmed

bred to these AI's will have two units of semen from the AI sire that will sell with them. The heifers will receive no clean up with natural service.

I have gone back to some of the original sires produced here at BHR, such as Zulu, Kalahari, Orange River, Bantu and Zuboomafo to A.I. these females to, along with Sunny Valley Sargent. I have done this for several reasons:

1. All these sires have calving ease, milk and API, EPD's in the top 15% of the 2013 Fullblood EPD's. And for me a LIVE CALF, born easy, is the singlemost important item that we can have of these females if they are to stay in our herds.

2. These sires bring great cows families back into the mix of these genetics which has proven over the years to be one of the most important items in our breeding programs.

Pisces, Virgo and Taurus are like 3 peas in a pod. Look at the depth and shape of the rib, excel-lent tops with great natural thickness with great smoothness in the shoulders and neck extension.Frame scores are very moderate and if you look at their individual performance you will find lowbirth weights, matched then with exceptional weaning and yearling weights. A further examinationof the data shows that they have above average rib size and substantial IMF.

A pedigree search then shows you why: sires packed with Haxl, Halling, Hallmark, Dirteck, Diri-gent, Honig, Hornung, Horror, Hafke, Z O Niner, Antonius, Siegfried, Hackenberg, Halmark Eliteand Morello along with Doorn that brings in Bernheim, Benz, Hermann, Billy and Siegfried. Savannah, Sorbet, Fritelle and Joliet are flush mate sisters sired by JUNGLE. Their dam is BHR FIORENZA SA P235E a Doorn daughter out of an Erico Primal and the super AI-AI Rinacow in South Africa. Fiorenza was purchased last year by Gumaro Rodriquez and Jorge Canales from Mexico, because of her consistent top performance here at BHR.

JUNGLE is a BHR HAXOLD son, thought by many to be the best walking Fleckvieh sire in North America. Jungle like his sire is big footed, long spined, strong topped, with a lot of ribdepth and natural thickness. His dam is phenotypic ally built the same way.

Truffle is another Jungle daughter whose dam is a Draco out of Ashante, do I have tosay any more!! Truffle is a little larger framed female, but has a lot of smoothness toher in the neck and shoulders. She is really strong topped and if I had to correct any-thing I would add a touch more muscle in her hind quarter. Look at her depth andshape of rib and the solid feet and legs under this female. Then look at her numbersand you will see that they are balanced straight across the board. Tapioca represents the heart of the original South African genetics that I imported to BHR in1997, as well as some of the first imported by Bar 5 several years later. Jungle, her sire, mater-nal grand dam was BHR Lady Pretoria G043E, a Hadau daughter out of Congosim Selli, who inblood was a 7/8 sister to Congosim Susi the dam of Ashante and many others here at BHR. Onthe bottom side you will find Lady Pretoria again and BHR MS Pret-Lu J036E that is still in pro-duction here. Tapioca is a really smooth made female that is well balanced from her nose toher tail. Lucie is a polled Sargent Rote daughter out of BHR Fiorenza P235E, the dam of the pickof heifers in lot 12. Lucie is a little smaller in frame then her 1/2 sisters out of Jungle,but you would expect that being out of Sargent Rote. Concord is another of the Haxold daughters out of Little Creek Adria 100T that I pur-chased from Little Creek Farms. LCF Adria is a Three Sixes daughter out of an Erico Pri-mal and Congosim Karli, that brings a little different twist to the pedigree and she alwaysbrings a great calf to the pens at weaning. Lava's dam is another Haxold daughter whose dam, BHR Good Friday S200, is a RenmorBenz daughter out of Ashante. Good Friday does not look the part but at weaning timeshe always has one of the best calves in the weaning pen. Doc Davis used the RenmorBenz bull for one breeding season and you can ask him about the job he did at LCF. Lavahas cow written all over her and the cow families represented in her pedigree assure youthat she will be just that! Not as much power in the pedigree as the previous two lots but a very complete pack-age. A blend of maternal genetics from Three Sixes and Dan-Jaco Benz 78, whichshows up twice in the pedigree, that matched with the power from Haxold, Optimal andHagen, all of which show up more than once in the pedigree. Scorpio is the only Fullblood in the sale that is not full Fleck, but you must admire thecow families in this pedigree especially Mantas Advantage and Manta, that played suchan important role in the breeding program at Eric Kerns in Canada. When Jerry asked me if he could bring a 1/2 blood female to the sale, I said that shewould fit right in with the emphasis of this year’s sale "THE FLECK ADVANTAGE.” Mid-night is sired by Brink Koba R550, that brings a tremendous amount of power to thepedigree. A double bred Hasalz with two shots of Ferdinand which is then temperedwith Siegfried and Great Guns Conrad 12A for calving ease and milk. RRJS Three Sixes 327W is a flush mate to RRJS Idessa Three Sixes 329W, that I am selling a flush out ofin lot 4 of this sale. He was owned jointly by BHR and Ratcliff Ranches until last year when we workedout a trade for BHR to own 90% and Trevor Tuell that grew him out in Colorado after weaning, owning10%. I talked about his pedigree in the footnotes of Lot 4, so I won't bore you with the same state-ments over again concerning his pedigree. If you study his phenotype you will find he is wide based,long spined, strong topped, deep ribbed with an excellent shoulder set and just full of red meat. Add tothis his 70 pound birth weight, 772 pound weaning weight, 1425 yearling weight with a 16.90 rib and3% IMF and his calving ease with growth and an OUTCROSS pedigree you have a proven herd sire. Thecalves will be moderate in frame, thick as a hammer with great birth weights and will be as wide basedas you can make them. Just look at BHR SABAN and BHR ZOYA. Monte Carlo is owned jointly with Fernando Platt of Sonora Mexico and Andres Henao of Columbia.He is a complete outcross to all Simbrah sires that are walking to date, with a strong Fleck influenceof 38.14%. I discussed his dam in Lot 5, so I won't go into that discussion again other then to say sheis MISS CONSISTENCY. Monte Carlo had a 81 pound birth weight, 936 pound weaning weight, 1485yearling weight with ultrasound data showing a 16.60 rib and 2.73 IMF with .20 backfat. Gunsmoke is a 3/4 Brahman 1/4 Fleck Simmental sire that is doing a great job here at BHR. His sire LBMR Derringer Manso is a very moderate framed Brahman bull that is 5/8 Grey and 3/8 Red Brahmanand his dam is the 1/2 blood donor Spicy Lady, who was one of the most consistent producers here atBHR. Gunsmoke is stacked full of red meat with sound feet and legs and a perfect disposition. He doesexhibit more sheath then is desirable, but check out lot 54 to see how he produces. I know you will bepleased. If you have that set of Simmental cows that you want to add a touch of Brahman to make Sim-brah in one generation I recommend that you try Gunsmoke. He is a polled Poters Reserve son, out ofthe Yankee Nina cow that Greg and Paige owned, raised at Yankee Creek Simmentals in Oregon. GameChanger is a red meat specialist with a strong top, width of base, tremendous rib depth and shape andsound feet and legs. His pedigree reads like who’s who in the Fleckvieh breed and based upon the calvesat Greg's and those I have on my cows in Alabama, boy does he do the job.
