Having signed a concession agreement in 2004 to undertake the Build, Operate & Transfer (BOT) contract with the government for Duta-Ulu Kelang Expressway (DUKE), Ekovest has grown from strength to strenght.

Spanning 18km from northern-east to northern-west of Kuala Lumpur city. DUKE was completed and commenced operations on the 9th of January 2009. In 2013, Ekovest undertook the expansion of DUKE highway by signing on a supplement concession agreement with construction works now well in progress.

SRI DAMANSARA LINK Commences at the Menjalara Interchange at Bandar Menjalara on the west and traversing eastward to the Segambut Interchange at Jalan Segambut. The package starts at CH0 and ends at CH3970 at coordinates N2648.770m, E-8323.651m and N1579.199m, E-4595.915m (Selangor State Cassini) respectively. The construction comprises dual 2-lanes carriageway from Menjalara Interchange to Segambut Interchange, two (2) directional On and Off ramps at Jalan Lang Emas and a toll plaza at Lang Emas.

TUN RAZAK LINK Commences at Jalan Tun Razak near KL Hospital / IJN and transverses northwards along Jalan Pahang and Jalan 9/48A to connect to the existing Jalan Gombak after crossing existing DUKE at Sentul Pasar interchange. The package starts at CH0 and ends at CH3600 at approximate coordinates N99854.752, E100295.139 and N102004.769, E100329.407 respectively. The construction comprises dual 2-lanes carriageway from Jalan Tun Razak Interchange to Jalan Gombak Interchange, Sentul Pasar Interchange 2, directional On-ramps, Off-ramps and elevated U-turns and an interchange at Jalan Gombak.

COMPRISING 2 LINKS, NAMELY:• Sri Damansara Link (SDL) – Connects MRR2 and DUKE and helps to disperse traffic to and from MRR2 to city centre;• Tun Razak Link (TRL) – Acts an additional dispernal link between DUKE and MRR1 thus providing an additional dispersal option for the congested Jalan Tun Razak.

As of 7th September 2017, a total of 349 piles, 63 piles caps, 30 columns for sub-structure construction work have been completed. In addition, DUKE 3 superstructure works have finally kicked-off with 11 precast segmental crossheads and 9 beams launched into place at Wangsa Maju, in line with the construction schedule.

Ekovest, as an advocate of the Construction Design Management (CDM) principles, has always emphasized on safety during construction. One of the safety practices adopted in DUKE 3, innovated by our Managing Director Tan Sri Datuk Seri Lim Keng Cheng himself is the beam bracing method. This method of simply bracing the beam, once it is launched has gain popularity among contractors due to its effectiveness in securing the beam in place, thus speeding up the launching of beams and also enhancing the safety in the construction site. It is a pleasure and an honor to announce the achievement of 1,000,000 Safe Man-hours in the SPE-DUKE3 project site. It is a milestone of enormous value, for it means being able to obtain excellent safety results in a complicated environment that is full of difficulties that need to be managed on a daily basis in view of extreme conditions of climate and humidity, the extraordinary mix of multi-cultural workers that is further complicated with communication and coordination issues, etc. Thus, the benefits are numerous if effective Safety & health managements systems were to be implemented in order to increase productivity while reducing cost and saving time.

To turn our Prime Minister’s vision into reality, EkoRiver Construction Sdn Bhd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Ekovest Berhad, and their group of consultants and experts work tirelessly to come up with the design and concept. EkoRiver was given 18 weeks to complete, test and commission the Kolam Biru project. There are several components that come together to make the Kolam Biru project a highlight amongst the many tourist attractions that Kuala Lumpur has to offer. Kolam Biru is equipped with a Dancing Symphony Fountain, the Blue Corridor, fog and lighting effects, and visitors can expect a stunning visual and sensory experience when visiting the place. It will further enhance the focal point of the already historic Masjid Jamek Sultan Abdul Samad, which stands as a grand backdrop to the dancing symphony fountain.

We are also proud to say that Kolam Biru is truly a Malaysian product, locally designed and built by local experts, consultants and contractors. Kolam Biru is also a project to educate the locals on how important it is to take care of the river. The Blue Corridor serves as a water-touching experience and demonstrates of how the water quality of the polluted water is turned into class IIB water by going through the interceptor system. The newly refurbished walkway besides the Sungai Klang and Sungai Gombak also provides a surreal feeling with 1,551 nozzles fitted to create an atmospheric fog effect.

The team from EkoRiver Construction and Ekovest Berhad had carefully planned and executed the project; with the team working hard in solving the constraints, such as working in and around the river as well as working at a heritage area. Nonetheless, Kolam Biru was completed 5 days ahead of the given time of 18 weeks timeline.

Prime Minister YAB Dato’ Seri Mohd Najib bin Tun Abdul Razak, who launched the Kolam Biru, said the RoL project is an Entry Point Project under the Economic Transformation Programme aimed at increasing the liveability index of city folks.“ The project will bring great impact to Greater Klang Valley, in line with transforming the capital of Malaysia into a city on par with international standards.”

“Our rivers are our heritage so I hope enforcement officers taking care of the Kolam Biru will carry out their duties and prevent people from throwing rubbish into the river,” he said at the launch held at the bridge in Leboh Pasar Besar, Kuala Lumpur.The RoL project comprised three major components – river cleaning, river beautification as well as commercialisation and tourism.

“This will be an iconic attraction for tourists,” said Najib.

Also present were Najib’s wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, Federal Territories Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor, Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Ali Hamsa, Natural Resources and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak.

Kolam Biru was mooted when our Prime Minister, YAB Dato’ Seri Mohd Najib bin Tun Abdul Razak visited the RoL project site at Masjid Jamek on 20 February 2017 in conjunction with the announcement to rename Masjid Jamek Sultan Abdul Samad mosque. The honourable Prime Minister had envisioned that the river confluence of Sungai Gombak and Sungai Klang to be a place of gathering and a new icon for Malaysia.

On the 28th of August 2017, Kolam Biru @ Masjid Jamek Sultan Abdul Samad was officially launched by the Prime Minister of Malaysia, YAB Dato’ Seri Mohd Najib bin Tun Abdul Razak. The Kolam Biru @ Masjid Jamek Sultan Abdul Samad will transform the confluence of Sungai Klang and Sungai Gombak into a landmark waterfront destination in Kuala Lumpur.

The project aims to rejuvenate and transform Northern Kuala Lumpur into a world class destination.  The KL River City will also see the rehabilitation and transformation a 2.2km stretch of Gombak River to provide riverfront lifestyle and serene landscape for the public to enjoy.

KL River City is positioned within Precinct 1 & 2 of the River of Life (ROL) and near KL Sentral, KLCC and the upcoming Tun Razak Exchange and Bandar Malaysia and when completed, the KL River City shall possess seamless integration with roads and urban public transportation system as well as serene landscape with self-sustaining developments.What the River of Life will do is that it will redefine Gombak River’s identity and rebuild its redevelopment strategy by transforming it into a vibrant and liveable riverfront a world class tourist destination in northern Kuala Lumpur.  Ekovest managing director Datuk Seri Lim Keng Cheng said the KL River City would use a non-mechanical system to provide flood attenuation by channelling the flood water into a flood tunnel below the city (bypassing the river corridor itself).  “With this system, the upper deck of KL River City will be able to allow water activities on the river bank throughout the year. This system will also provide an improved flood mitigation system in and

around Kuala Lumpur City Centre,” he said.Lim also said the KL River City will fully utilise gravity, to do this, thus dispensing the need for mechanical systems like pump, hence reducing the cost and space significantly.  “With the implementation of KL River City, the surrounding area covering almost 320 acres has huge potential for future developments that will benefit all developers along the Gombak River,” he said.Ekovest has several development projects within the area, namely EkoTitiwangsa, EkoRiverCentre, EkoGateway, EkoQuay, and EkoAvenue with gross development value exceeding RM6bil.

The River of Life, which will cover 110km in length,is a seven-year project under the Economic Transformation Programme for Greater Kuala Lumpur to resuscitate the Klang and Gombak rivers.

On the 18th of July, Ekovest has launched the KL River City. The launch was officiated by the Minister of Federal Territories, Datuk Seri Utama Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor and other VVIPs in attendance were Ekovest executive chairman Tan Sri Lim Kang Hoo, Ekovest Managing Director Datuk Seri Lim Keng Cheng, executive director of Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) Datuk Mohd Najib Mohd, Chief Secretary to the Ministry of Federal Territories Datuk Seri Adnan Md Ikshan and deputy director general (I) of the Department of Irrigation and Drainage.

Mural of

Palm Prints

Our Managing Director, Tan Sri Lim Keng Cheng, together with Ekovest's staff has participated in the Patriotic Palm Print Mural Painting 2017 that features over 80,000 Malaysian hand prints at Jalan Genting Kelang, Wangsa Maju, Kuala Lumpur.

With record breaking participation, the initiative has managed to make it into the Malaysia Book of Records!

The 600m Patriotic Palm Print Mural illustrates the struggle of Malaysian leaders from 1957 and features images of former Prime Ministers of Malaysia.

The project was started by Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (TARUC) students, lecturers and the local community and supported by the Minister of Transport cum President of MCA, Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai, the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department cum MCA deputy president, Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong and the Federal Territories MCA Chairman, Datuk Yew Teong Look.

The mural signifies our country’s 60th Independence Day and it beautifies the streets of Wangsa Maju and Genting Klang.
