The Burton Taylor Studio is managed by Oxford Playhouse on behalf of the University of Oxford

OP’s Burton Taylor Studio programme is sponsored by HMG LAW

Welcome to the Studio……host to the very best of small scale professional touring work and home to the coolest work being created by students in Oxford. During term time you can catch a range of work presented by University of Oxford students, including new productions of plays by modern masters Neil Labute and Enda Walsh, an experimental reimagining of the classic Cyrano de Bergerac and exciting original work by up-and-coming student writers. There’s also the annual jamboree of short offerings from fresher groups in the CUPPERS Festival, plus alternative comedy from the highly popular Little Dark; something to entertain everyone as the autumn nights draw in. Outside of term time and in the lead up to Christmas we have an Oxford Playhouse homemade treat for the under 5s and their families. Bath Time is full of fun, a bit of magic and lots of laughter. Sing along to the ukulele, learn some new bath games and play spot the rubber duck in this fantastic show made by the creator of One Small Step, Toby Hulse. For adults seeking something a little less slapstick than panto, we have the wonderful Gerard Logan performing Shakespeare’s harrowing poem The Rape of Lucrece, and a premiere of At First Sight, a brilliant new play.

Bath TimeBy Toby Hulse

Festive fun with bubbles!Bath time is for splashing about, singing down the plughole, shouting up the taps and making bubble beards.

Oxford Playhouse has created this magical and perfectly silly show celebrating the games we all play in the bath – in words, music, dance and puppets, with lots of chances to join in.

Devised and directed by Toby Hulse (One Small Step) and loved by the children that saw it earlier on in the year. This is an ideal festive time treat for children aged two to five, their families and anyone who has ever shared a bath.

Fantastic…we all loved it! Audience member

Thursday 13 to Saturday 15 January at 7.30pmThe Rape of Lucreceby William Shakespeare

A single actor, a bare stage – rapist and victim springing to searing life.

Olivier award nominated Gerald Logan brings his astonishing, internationally acclaimed performance of Shakespeare’s The Rape of Lucrece to the Studio. This brilliant and brutal narrative poem is brought powerfully to life by this RSC actor, who received five star reviews at the Edinburgh Festival and a sell-out London run. Shakespeare goes beyond the obvious, following the ramifications of the crime wherever they take him, shining a light on a band of behaviour encompassing the bestial and the beautiful.
