Early Stage 1 & Stage 1News

Can you believe that we are already in week 8? This term is just flying by with many events been and gone and a few more still to come…..

Last week all Infants classes visited the Healthy Harold Van. Students learnt about different parts of the body and ways of keeping safe and healthy. A good time was had by all.

Next Tuesday the Sydney Oz Opera will be performing “Cinderella” to K-6 in the school hall. Students are very excited by this and it will be a good opportunity for students to watch this kind of performance.

Next Wednesday is NAIDOC Day! The day will start off with an assembly and then followed by students rotating around a variety of Indigenous activities including face painting, storytelling,

jewellery making and tasting Johnny Cakes. We would like to take this opportunity to invite any parents or family members to come and attend this fun day with us. All Infants classes have been given a section of the vegetable garden to maintain and plant their own vegies in. Once a week each class gets to visit the vegetable garden to watch and see how their vegies are growing. Each class is planting a variety of vegetables. Students are very excited about this and are looking forward to the day that they can pick their vegies and eat them. As the weather is getting warmer please remember that students should be bringing a hat and a water bottle to school every day. It is really important that your child’s name is clearly marked on all items of clothing and equipment. Please remember the school rule:

“No hat, no sun!”

During the term students have been working hard to earn 30 stickers or more on their behaviour charts. Once again this finishes at the end of week 9. Infant’s teachers are busily planning a fun and exciting reward party for students who reach this achievement. The

reward party will be held in week 10. Further information about this will be announced next week. Stage 1 Lightning Bolts have been very lucky to have Mr Arnold a prac student from Charles Sturt University (Bathurst) working with their class for the past 2 weeks. Mr Arnold has planned and taught some fun and exciting lessons. S1L would like to thank Mr Arnold for his hard work and would like to wish him the best of luck for his future as a teacher!

Stage 1 Lightning Bolts have been writing some acrostic poems. Here are a few for you to read:

Brave at all times

Really nice to people

A kind and caring person

Doesn’t fight in the playground

Likes playing football

Explains recounts properly

You’re a good sportsman

****************************************

Cares for babies

A kind and caring person

I like to play at the park

Trying to be not scared of heights

Like to play with my cousin’s dog

I like to play with my friends

Nice to my friends

already could you please send $1with your child to school

for the cost of their portfolio.

Cameron Stelzer Visit - Last week a group of Stage 2/3 students attended a workshop with the fabulous Dr Cameron Stelzer. It was a busy and educational day for all. We thank Dr Stelzer for offering his time and expertise to Buninyong and we hope he enjoyed his visit. The following students enjoyed working with Dr Stelzer so much that they have written a recount of their experience;

Last week on Tuesday 8th September, I attended the writing and illustrating course in the library. With Dr Cameron Stelzer we were taught how to plan a story out with a beginning, middle and end. Then we had to draw the characters of our story , we also did some drafts for our title page. Finally we made a good copy of our title page. The name of my story was alien invasion. The best part of the day was when I had finished my good copy of my title page.

Last Tuesday I went to the library and met the author Cameron Stelzer . He taught me how to write and illustrate a narrative. I wrote a narrative about dad and I fishing down at the river whilst a lion was on the loose. In my recount a man with a tranquiliser gun shot the lion and took him back to the zoo. My favourite part was illustrating my recount and meeting Dr Stelzer’s puppet who is the main character in his books. I think Dr Stelzer is a fantastic author and I would like to attend another workshop with him.

By: Shania Kilby S2/3F ——————————————————-

When I was at the Cameron Stelzer Workshop, we first got two sheets of paper. One piece of paper explained what I had to include and the other piece of paper was a planning sheet. Then Cameron opened a blue bag and tipped out a bunch of little animals, dinosaurs E.T.C. After that I started the front of my cover. Then we started drawing our characters on another sheet of paper. When we finished that we wrote sentences that had to have one letter chosen and at least have 5 of the chosen letters in the sentence eg. My one was the ‘Battle of Planet Norman’. As we finished we started to pack up and then we went home.

——————————————————— Wambangalang Excursion - Stage 2 students along with Mr Frost and Miss Mercuri are busily preparing for the excursion to Wambangalang. Students are reminded that the bus leaves at 9:15am Wednesday morning and returns Thursday afternoon in time for students to catch buses. A note detailing the excursion will be given to students this week.

Head Lice - Please be aware there have been a number of students reported with headlice. It is extremely important that infected students are treated effectively and that treatments are consistent amongst all students. Girls particularly should be encouraged to wear their hair tied up, especially with the warmer months

approaching as these dreadful creatures thrive in warm conditions. Students should also be discouraged from sharing hats and playing with each others hair. Parents and carers can help by treating siblings and keeping potential threats at bay.

Stage 2/3 Fish have been helping Ms Ferguson plan her

trip to the Northern Territory. They have assisted her with mapping the 4 day long drive and have researched a range of heritage sites for her to visit along the way. On page 6 are some suggestions.

Stage 3 girls are enjoying Iki classes during sport time on Fridays. Last week they did some team building exercises instead of the normal Iki lesson. One of the exercises was a game called mine field. This game is designed to help the girls develop their communication skills by requiring them to guide their blind folded partner through a maze of obstructions.
