The applica-tion also stores master data information not related to ERP, including the standard built-in SAP S/4HANA data models, in the central reposi-tory. You can even extend the repository to include non-SAP data models. Once you add new data models, the application persistently stores and automatically exposes them to the full master data governance functionality without the need for new code.

A central rules engine manages not only existing SAP S/4HANA rules but also any business process rules that exist outside SAP solutions. An intelligent front end converts the rules into business-oriented language that’s easily readable by end users.

Empowering Business UsersSAP Master Data Governance helps the business owners of your data implement forms and custom-ize them comfortably. RELYING ON A SINGLE APPLICATION FOR MASTER DATA MANAGEMENTServing as your all-purpose steward for keep- ing data clean and available for immediate analysis, SAP Master Data Governance performs continuous consolidation. You can run accurate cross-functional reports, for example, on global operational expenses, at any time. An automatic consolidation run before each governance pro-cess helps ensure that the data is accurate and properly formatted. When a governance process encounters a process related to mergers and acquisitions, it continues running central gover-nance functions while performing the consis-tency check on incoming data.

You can use the application for central manage-ment only, maintaining consistency whenever any master data object is created or changed. Or you can take a hybrid approach, deliberately keeping some data objects under local ownership and running a continuous process to consolidate them with centrally managed data.

Harnessing the Latest AnalyticsThe in-memory computing platform that serves as the backbone for SAP S/4HANA manages both transactional and analytical data simultane-ously on one copy of the database. As a result, you can use the master data in the transactional system as soon as you approve it.

Embedded analytics in SAP S/4HANA bring you immediate insights into the master data process-ing state. Extended and flexible workflow processing for mixed objects allows sequential and parallel processes with integrated mail notification to adapt easily to your existing business processes.

Capitalizing on Preconfigured Reference ModelsBuilt-in reference model libraries in SAP Asset Information Workbench help you create and maintain reusable standard models. An intuitive viewer for cross-object hierarchies gives you rela-tive and contextual views of asset, work, and spare-part objects in in the staging area and production systems.

Integrating with SAP Asset Intelligence NetworkIntegration with SAP Asset Intelligence Network helps you access both external and internal sources of information more efficiently. And it lets you enrich data for propagation to internal systems, including system control and data acquisition (SCADA) functions and document management systems.

WORKING WITH THE BASIC EXTENSIONThe Utopia enterprise asset management exten-sion for SAP Master Data Governance comes with a predefined model for standard data objects used in enterprise asset management. The workflow-driven governance process helps keep your asset master data accurate and up to date throughout the asset lifecycle, including design, construction, operation, maintenance, and decommission.

The extension makes data maintenance straight-forward by helping you view your entire list of master data objects and drill down as needed with just a few clicks. You can control access and track changes more efficiently through built-in workflows.
