My Analysis Supporting Images

Cinematography & Camera Techniques

Some techniques I found during the opening scene was an establishing shot this showed where the protagonist was and what she was doing. Similarly, I also found a medium shot that shows what the protagonist is doing; this is singing. Also, another shot featured was the shot of the television which we could see through her eyes this is called a point-of-view shot.

Visual Effects & Colour Scheme

The lighting I found that was used was low key lighting because the setting is in the protagonists living room therefore the lighting is dark and dull but does not perceive the scene to be a horror but a Rom com film.

Genre Conventions Bridget Jones Diary I believe to be a rom com movie because of the non-diegetic sound which was sad slow music which the protagonist was miming too. I also believe it is a romantic comedy because the protagonist is dancing in a way that the audience would find funny. Also with how the setting is set out; very messy like the protagonist lives on her own.

Narrative At the beginning of the title credits we first see the protagonist lying on the settee looking upset this could be because of relationship issues, this I know because throughout the title credits we see her on her own and with how the furniture and pictures are set out we know she lives alone. Furthermore, because of the non-diegetic music that was playing which was a sad song we know that her emotion is upset.

Editing Techniques Throughout the title credits not a lot editing techniques was used but one that I found was cutaways. This was used very effectively to show the protagonist watching television. It was shown cutting to the protagonist, to the TV and back to the protagonist.

Title Credit Design The title credit design that was used was very effective and related to the theme of the movie which was about a diary. The title credits were big and the font that was used looks like someone’s handwriting. The end of the title sequence shows the name of the movie which is big, bold and easy to see and read.
