What an amazing day we have had at Sports Day, beautiful weather, a wonderful audience and no water this afternoon, but Breaside carried on with the show as they say! It was lovely to see so many of you supporting your children and even taking part in the parent races. Well done to everyone for taking part and of course our dedicated team of PE staff for all of their hard work with both events today. On Monday we held our first Breaside Bake Off Final, the standard of cooking was incredible and everything was delicious! Congratulations to our winner Alanna, there are photos further on in the Bulletin. I would also like to say a big thank you to Mr Turtle and Mr Jackson for organising this wonderful event and to Mr Nicholls for agreeing to judge and donating the most amazing prize of a visit to the pastry kitchen at The Mandarin Oriental Hotel restaurant he owns with Heston Blumenthal and afternoon tea. All winners will also receive a signed cookery book from Mr Nicholls that a number of other famous chefs have contributed to and raised money for Mr Nicholl’s charity www.nsif.org.uk . We are very grateful for these kind prizes for our Breaside chefs! The Year Two children thoroughly enjoyed their trip to the Kent Life Museum yesterday. It was wonderful to see the children dressed in their costumes and to see the teachers dressed up too! Year One children also had a lovely time at High Elms Country Park on Tuesday. We were all taken to India when our Year Two children performed in their production this week. Thank you to everyone who was able to attend and join in 'Jai Ho' dancing with Mrs Blasé and watch the amazing performances from the children. Thank you to Mrs McCabe, Mrs Blasé and the Year Two team. I think we would all agree the children and teachers did a brilliant job, so thank you and well done! Our final event of the year is the Prize Giving ceremony for Years 3-6 and I look forward to seeing you there for this celebration. Please do not be late and remember that there is very limited parking outside of St Johns Church. The Year 5 sales team lining up before thisyear’s very successful Plant Sale!Almost £100 was raised by the children of Year5 from the sale of plants that they had grownfrom seed. This money goes directly to fundingnext year’s gardening project.

Top tip: to get the best from your plants, re-potinto a larger container or directly into thegarden, water and feed regularly throughoutthe summer. Enjoy!

Year 1 Trip to High ElmsOn Tuesday, Year 1 travelled by coach to High Elms Country Park.We were all very excited and couldn’t wait to start exploring!

When we arrived we were told lots ofamazing facts about High Elms.High Elms has 250 acres ofcountryside to discover! The historyof the High Elms estate can be traced back to the Norman Conquest, when it was given by William the Conqueror to his half-brother. In theearly nineteenth century it was acquired by the Lubbock family, and in1840 the astronomer and banker, Sir John Lubbock inherited it and builta grand new mansion. In 1938 the estate was sold and the housebecame a nurses' training centre. Finally in 1965 the area became partof the London Borough of Bromley and the land then became publicopen space. Unfortunately the mansion no longer exists as it was burnt

to the ground by an electric blanket!

We learnt that High Elms is very special because of the unusual plants and animals thatlive there. For example the Clouded Magpie Moth, the Man Orchid and the Dormouse. We learnt that the Dormouse is very sleepy, they are nocturnal, live in the tree canopy insummer, and hibernate for 7 months of the year. All of these plants and animals are rareand protected.During our first activity, we walked through the woods looking at

different types of trees such as the Sycamore, Fir, Holly, Beech, Yew and Oak.We completed fantastic bark rubbings and collected many different colouredand shaped leaves. Next we arranged natural materials such as fir cones, twigs, leaves and logs to make incredible sculptures. This is called ephemeralart. We worked in groups to create amazing animals, marvellous buildings andeven a gigantic spaceship!

Next we went on a flower trail through the beautiful meadows. We saw some incredible plants like thePyramid Orchid, Hogweed and Birdsfoot Trefoil. There were so many bright colours and unusualshapes. The children also had an opportunity to use nets to collect mini-beasts and then identifythem! We had a fantastic day and learnt so much!

Miss Huntley and Mrs Clarke

On Sunday 11th June 2017, Daisy went to theRambert School of Ballet and ContemporaryDance in Twickenham and auditioned to become aCecchetti Associate. Many children attended theauditions which lasted all day. This week Daisyheard that she had been successful in gaining aplace, which enables her to take non syllabusclasses in Classical Ballet and other forms ofdance for a year at the Rambert School.

Congratulations Daisy

Both classes were split into teams and they had to work together to tryand build the tallest tower that they could using only dried spaghetti and giantmarshmallows! There were some very impressive structures produced but in the endthe winning team were Roger, Sam, Amelia A, Sophia, James and Tilly who managedto get their tower to reach the dizzying heights of 54cm! Afterwards, we all enjoyed a

choc ice on the playground to cool down.

IMPORTANT PARKING NOTICEPlease remember if you are driving toBreaside to respect our neighbours’environment by Parking and DrivingConsiderately. Do not ever obstruct drives ordouble park, especially in and aroundRosewood Court, Westbury Road, CopleyDene and Edgeborough Way.

We have had two complaints this week of a car parkingdangerously on the corner of Bay Tree Close.

Also a reminder to not park in bus lanes or opposite crossingbollards, this is making it very difficult or sometimes impossible forbikes, buses and coaches to travel along Orchard Road. Also donot park on the pavements as this is illegal.

May I also remind you to never leave children alone andunsupervised in cars.

Just a reminder to get your orders into the schooloffice, for the DVD of the Year 6 Production of Joseph

and the Year 2 India Production.
