Why Would Bones Not Fuse Right Away?

● We are still growing!!● Allows for your organs, muscles,

nerves, arteries and veins to have room to migrate to their final destinations

Page 5: BONES

Bones that take a while to fuse/ossify:● When do all 28(ish) bones of the skull fuse together?

○ Between ages 13-18!

● What about the sacrum?○ Between ages 25-30!

● The humerus?○ Around age 20!

● Don’t tell me the pelvis, too!?○ As late as age 25

Female vs. Male Bones

● What BONES are different between female

and male skeletons?

● How are they different?

● What are the reasons for those differences?

Hmmm...

In what circumstance can you not tell the difference between Male and Female Pelvic bones?

● When the bones belong to a young person!○ Females end bone development

around 18 years old○ Males end bone development

around 21 years old

Why so serious?

What is the functional reason for the difference in pelvic bones between males and female?

Page 16: BONES
