This little printer lets users choose any color on the web, or in the real world, and using simple already-existing software, print that color into a blush, eye shadow, lip gloss or any other type of makeup.

See, most makeup comes from the same basic substrates, from high-end labels like Chanel all the way down to the cheap stuff available at drug stores. Founder Grace Choi sources the same substrate for the Mink so that users can turn any image into any kind of makeup. The idea here is that consumers are increasingly focused on instant gratification and DIY solutions. Choi also noticed that makeup

consumers aren’t always loyal to certain brands, but rather focused on convenience.

With Mink, users can satisfy the desire for instant gratification while still having access to any color in the world at an affordable price.

Simply choose a color on a website, Pinterest board, or snap one with your phone in the real world, and use any color picker to locate the hex code of the color. Once you have the code, you can put it into any other program like Photoshop or Paint and simply press print.The company is targeting the younger, 13-21 demographic who are less ingrained in their

habits with certain brands and retailers.

Currently, the Mink is still a prototype, which is set to retail at $300 (approx. R3000) and although the prices of the ink and raw materials aren’t available yet, we totally think Grace Choi is on to something big.

What would you want to print first? Your own eyeshadow? Or what about a blusher? The options are endless.

Sometimes life throws you some old tiles and then you have two options: live with it, or paint and stamp it!

Save yourself a heap of cash by opting for this very clever stamp that can be used in any number of ways.

My kitchen had been in desperate need of a tiled splash-back because unlike most old homes, I wasn’t blessed with horrid old kitchen tiles.

1.Cut 16 mm chip board to the size you want your panel to be, minus 2.5 mm on all 4 sides. This will ensure that the tiles hang over the wood a little bit to create a nice shadow line.

2. Fix 2 mirror fixings to the back — it’s easier to do this first otherwise you risk breaking a tile or two.

3. The stamp size is 150 mm x150mm so I used some very inex-pensive white tiles to the same size. Fix the tiles to the panel using a tile adhesive, leaving a 2 mm space between them.

4. Use grout to fill in the spaces and let it dry for a couple of hours.

5. Prime the tiles with a standard tile primer — there are many brands on the market — and then let it cure for 24 hours.

GRILLED GRAPE FRUITSAt the very tail-end of winter the grape fruit is in full swing.I started serving these zesty and yet slightly warming delicacies on cooler spring retreat mornings. There is something intrinsically cheerful about the smell of grapefruits that make them a welcome addition to a breakfast spread. Select ruby grapefruits for their vibrant colour and richer antioxidant content and use a grapefruit knife to cut into segments before grilling for easier eating.The sprinkle of brown sugar will melt into the grapefruit as it caramelizes,

softening the bitterness and giving the surface a perfectly radiant glow. A joyous and juicy way to begin the day.

Die jaarlikste Hoër Meisieskool Paarl Mini Netbaldag is gehou op Dinsdag 12 Augustus. Alle 0/7, 0/8 en 0/9 spanne van Hoër Meisieskool Paarl, La Rochelle, Drakenstein, Laerskool Noord-Eind, Laerskool WA Joubert en Laerskool Courtrai het deelgeneem. Dit was sommige van die Gr. 1’s se eerste netbal wedstryde en hulle het dit vreeslik geniet! Baie geluk aan al die spanne wat deelgeneem het.

Die jaarlikse 0/10 netbaldag is gehou op 12 Augustus 2014 by WA Joubert in die Paarl. Hoër Meisieskool se 0/10 A-netbalspan het uitstekende spel gelewer en na 5 oorwinnings is hul deur na die finaal teen Laerskool Courtrai. Na ‘n senutergende wedstryd in swak lig is hul gekroon as die wenners van die dag. Hierdie meisies was vuurwarm en het deur middel van goeie spanwerk, entoesiasme en sportmangees uitstekend gespeel en ons is baie trots op hulle!

EisteddfodHuguenot Primary is very proud of our 1E class. Their “The crocodile” won the trophy for the best Foundation phase choral verse at the Paarl Eisteddfod.

Anje Grobbelaar het aan die Distrikproewe vir Artisties gimnastiek by Swartklip Indoor Sentrum deelgeneem. Sy het ‘n silwer medalje verower in Artistiese Gimnastiek en is opgeneem in die Boland Distrikspan wat die Cape Winelands distrik op 28-30 Augustus by die South Zone kampioenskappe in Kaapstad gaan verteenwoordig.

EisteddfodVerskeie leerders is die afgelope tyd deur geduldige onderwysers afgerig vir optrede tydens die jaarlikse Eisteddfod. Verskeie leerders het dan ook agterna kon spog met hul toekennings.

Ayesha Hendricks and Zahra Singh were awarded Cum Laude Certificates for Poetry Gr 2.

Verjaarsdag Op 8 Augustus het Laer Meisieskool La Rochelle hulle 154ste verjaarsdag gevier met ‘n spesiale saalbyeenkoms waar kerse aangesteek is en ‘n kaartjie oorhandig is. Die leerders kon in “civvies” kom – aangetrek as dames. Wat ‘n voorreg om betrokke te wees by ‘n skool met ‘n lang rekord van uitnemendheid.

StudenteSoos gewoonlik het ‘n klomp studente La Rochelle gekies vir hulle praktiese ondervinding. Hulle het genoeg geleentheid gekry om les te gee en klasse te hanteer sodat hulle met hulle eerste dag as onderwysers nie onkant gevang word nie.

Hy het ook geen wedstryde in die reeks verloor nie.

Paul-Junior Fransman is tydens die Paarl Eisteddfod as die pryswenner in die afdeling ,indivuduel sang graad 4 – 7 seuns, aangewys.

Chanukah Hugo en Hayden Arendse (Gr R) het die moed gehad om voor klomp mense ‘n gediggie op te gaan sê. Chanukah het ‘n silwer plus verwerf en Hayden ‘n silwer. Baie trots op julle!

Eisteddfod Ons is baie trots op ons o/7 netbalspannetjie. Hulle het aan die begin van die derde kwartaal hulle eerste wedstryd gespeel en na vier is hulle nog steeds onoorwonne. Ons is baie trots op hulle en volg hulle vordering met aandag.

Die Graad R’e is baie opgewonde oor hulle toekoms-planne. Met van ‘n elektrisien tot ‘n ginekoloog is daar beslis hoop vir die nasie! So, Pappa en Mamma, begin maar spaar vir daardie studies!

Die kleintjies het baie aandagtig geluister en weet nou alles van varke af, ,maar Ryna en Justin dink dit is “stinky poo!!” Dis baie veiliger om jou neus toe te druk: “Wat te erg is, is te erg!!!!”

ATKV-RedenaarsTwee leerders van die Hoër Meisieskool La Rochelle, Iriné van Zyl (graad 9) en Marike Franken (graad 11) het deurgedring na die semi-finale rondte van die ATKV-Redenaarskompetisie, waar Iriné onder die Top 10 in die Wes Kaap geëindig het.

NetbalDie Hoër Meisieskool La Rochelle se o/14A-, o/16A- en o/18A-Netbalspanne het aan die Clanwilliam (SPAR) Netbaltoernooi by die Hoërskool Augsburg Landbougimnasium deelgeneem. Die o.18A-span was die wenners van die Genis Beker in die o/18-afdeling. Hulle het 18-20 teen Windhoek Gimnasium verloor, maar wenne teen Hoërskool Vredenburg (20-11), DF Malan A (28-20), Hoërskool Swellendam (25-8) en DF MALAN B in die finaal (26-13) aangeteken. Die o/16A span was tweede in hulle liga. Hulle verloor teen Augsburg (10-11), maar wen teen Hoërskool Stellenbosch B (14-8), Hoërskool Lutzville (16-11), Hoërskool Stellenbosch A (17-13) en Hoërskool Swellendam (13-11).

Dazzling DebatersThis past weekend was an extremely busy one for the debaters of La Rochelle. On Sunday, two teams took part in the Western Cape Schools Provincial Debating Competition at Bishops. The Junior A Team won 3 of their 4 rounds, ranking 2nd at the break and are through to the semi-finals. The Senior A Team won 4 of their 6 rounds, breaking to the quarter finals, where they lost to SACS. After completion of the competition, 3 Larries were placed in the TOP 10 Megan Ferreira was ranked 10th amongst the Seniors and in the Junior division Annabel Moore ranked 9th and Jordan Willett ranked 1st!

International Hockey FestivalThe u18A hockey team competed at the International Hockey festival held in Cape Town during the 1st week of the 3rd term. The team competed against both local and international teams. They finished overall 7th out of 22 teams participating at the festival. Well done girls! We are so proud of you!

Congratulations to Lara Schonken who have been selected to represent SANESA Boland at the annual Inter regional championship between WP, SWD and Boland for horse riding. At these championships a Western Cape team will be selected to represent the province at the annual Inter Provincial championships to be held later this year.

Interskole 2014Hoër Meisieskool Paarl was hierdie jaar die gashere van Interskole 2014 teen Hoërskool Gimnasium. Dit was ‘n voorreg om deel te kon wees van die ‘Girls’ High Magic’!

Fietsry7 HMS leerders het deelgeneem aan Interskole fietsry. Die roete was baie tegnies met nat en modderrige toestande maar ‘n heerlike ondervinding. HMS het die junior-afdeling vir dogters gewen. Geluk julle!

Slot Cars Slot cars is ‘n sport wat wêreldwyd beoefen word. Dit is karre wat met ‘n motor aangedryf word wat elektrisiteit van die baan verkry. Dié karre beweeg teen ongeveer 350 km/h. Andrė Roux (graad 10) lê op die oomblik tweede in Suid-Afrika in die ope afdeling.

Dit is tradisie om nat gegooi te word met jou eerste alleenvlug.

Snoeikursus Die gr 11-Landboubestuurspraktykklas het Maandag 11 Augustus ‘n snoeikursus voltooi wat aangebeid is deur Felco en Vinpro. Persone wat die kursus slaag, ontvang ‘n NQF1-sertifikaat.

Die Tiere is nie net trots op die uitslae nie, maar veral oor die manier waarop hulle gekompeteer het. Dirkie Uys wen seunshokkie (3-0), dogtershokkie (O.16 en O.14), netbal (O.19A, O.19C, O.19D, O.16A,16B, 16C, O.14A, 14B, 14C), rugby O.16A, gholf (7½ - ½), debat (seniors), vasvra (110-38) en skaak (6 -0).

Die spankapteine met die trofees wat gewen is: Voor: Eric Bester (gholf) en Henré Thiersen (seunshokkie). Middel: Tiné Kitshoff (netbal), Danél van der Westhuizen (vasvra) en Rouxnell van Dyk (debat). Agter: mnr. Dawie Diedericks (hoof) en Barend Mostert (skaak).

Die vasvraspan, Christiaan Bester, Nelia Bester en Danél van der Westhuizen, het Jan V Riebeeck oorrompel met 110 – 38.

Anelche Truter (links) voeg nog ‘n punt by die O.16B-netbalspan se totaal. (Eindtelling 28 – 9).
