Far oese – and when you travel with SSL you are the first in line to explore it all.

We offer timely and comfortable ferry and bus trans portation all over the Faroe Islands. Strong coordina tion between our different departures is crucial when operating in a country consisting of 18 islands.

READERS OF NATIONAL GEOGRAPIC TRAVELER SAY: THE FAROE ISLANDS ARE NO. 1National Geographic Traveler and their millions of readers and followers on social medias have voted the Faroe Islands as their favorite travel destination, or “Readers Choice” for 2015. Sustain-able, culturally minded, authentic, and superlative, were some of the reasons for the nomination and win over the title as being “Readers Choice” 2015.

I therefore sincerely believe that your trip to our beautiful islands entirely will come up to your hopes.

Hilmar Eliasen, CEO, Strandfaraskip Landsins

We have seven ferries, which are all named after birds. The freedom that characterizes birds is reflected in our transport solutions.

DOMESTIC BUS LINES

At SSL, we have 20 bus lines to carry you anywhere you want to go – from Sumba in the south to Gjógv and Viðareiði in the north.

For instance you can go by route 202 to Tjørnuvík and see the enormous sea stacks Risin and Kellingin. According to legend they tried to pull our islands to Iceland, but the sun arose from the east and turned them into stone. Today they are visible on route 202 and from the village of Tjørnuvík.

Route 201 will take you up the highest moun tain of the Faroe Islands to the beautiful village of Gjógv, where you will find this picturesque harbor.

FERRIESSSL operates six ferries – four ferries that carry both vehicles and passengers (Smyril, Teistin, Sam, and Ternan) and another two dedicated to passengers (Ritan and Sildberin).

TERNAN

Ternan takes you directly from the harbor terminal in Tórshavn to Nólsoy, where you can enjoy a beautiful 2-3 hour nature walk all the way along the island and visit the lighthouse Borðan. The journey only takes 20 minutes, and you can travel to Nólsoy from six in the morning to ten at night.

SILDBERIN

Sildberin is the newest ship in our fleet and will sail you to the historical island of Skúvoy from Sandoy. There you can vis-it the huge gravesite of Sigmundur, who christened the Faroe Islands. He swam from Skúvoy to Suðuroy, where he was beheaded.

TEISTIN

Only a 15-minute drive from Tórshavn, Teistin will take you on a beautiful 35-minute boat trip, where you pass the islands of Koltur and Hesti. You will also sail past the historical village of Kirkjubø.

SMYRIL

We constantly work to offer the best service possible. For instance, we have upgraded the accommodation on board our luxury liner Smyril and now offer our passengers 10 twin rooms and 15 family rooms, as well as a room for disabled passengers. Enjoy superb cuisine in our restaurant, and then head over to our play area with the kids for great entertainment. We also have a conference room on board.

When on board Smyril you can enjoy the beautiful scenery – for instance views around the privately owned, inhabited islands of Lítlu Dímun.

RITAN

A 20-minute drive from Klaksvík, Ritan will take you from Hvannasund to the re-mote islands of Svínoy and Fugloy. Ritan docks in the small villages of Svínoy, Kirkju and Hattarvík.

JOSUP

Visit Mykines with the ferry Jósup and find yourself walking amongst the puffins in puffin land. Please remember to book your journey to Mykines on www.mykines.fo. The boat ride to Mykines from Sørvá-gi is an adventure in itself. Among other things you will see the beautiful Tind- hólm.

SAM

In less than 20 minutes, Sam will take you from Klaksvík to the island of Kalsoy. In the village of Mikladali you can see the newly raised sculpture of Kópako-nan. According to legend, she was half woman and half seal. When she was on land, she left her seal skin behind. One day a farmer stole her seal skin and took her to his wife. Eventually she found her skin again and dove into the ocean.
