BLACKTOWN HOSPITAL
We’ll be testing the clinical
services building WiFi
security system and there’s
no cheating when we do the
checking!
Like the athletes village,
we’ve still got some ongoing
works. Refurb continues in
B47 renal in-centre and
ceiling works are happening
around the hospital. Sorry
about the noise.
You can now run or walk
from the P1 multi-storey car
park to the Admin Building -
paths are open.
Electrical works are
occurring throughout the
hospital. Please take care
around works areas and
don’t hurdle over barriers.
Walkers please keep one
foot in contact with the
ground at all times and stay
on marked paths.
After an awesome
performance in round one
of design development, all
our Stage 2 teams have
progressed to round two.
Major parking changes are
on the way. Day staff, please
follow the excellent example
we set in Sydney 2000 and
park off site. Parking now
available in the Bowling Club
for staff who work normal
business hours. Please keep
site parking free for
patients, visitors, shift staff
and International Olympic
Committee members. OK,
maybe not IOC.

TRY A LITTLE TENDERNESS
CARING FOR CARERS
5 RIGHTS
HEALING TOUCH: Dry July helps pay for the little extras
that make cancer patients more comfortable. Last year, Dry
July funded Ikou care packs for cancer ward patients with
Australian-made hand cream, body scrubs and spray mists,
pictured here with Vanessa and Hannah from A71 cancer
ward. They also funded new chairs and iPads and this year
we hope to get new treatment robes for radiation oncology.
Thanks to everyone who supported us again this year!
STAY WITH ME: Sia and Jara from
Corporate Comms were out this week
to interview Bronwyn Merritt and
Wendy Cain about our successful carer
zones. The project is nominated for a
WSLHD Quality Award. Pictured left,
they also caught up with patient
Victoria (we love her PJs) and her
daughters, who shared their carer zone
story.
HANDS UP FOR PATIENT CARE: It’s
week 1 of our “5 Rights” promotion to
help staff remember important info for
eMeds - right patient, drug, dose, time
and route.

END THE WAIT YOUNG AT HEART
LIVES WELL LIVED: Our senior dialysis patients celebrated
the completion of their home dialysis training with a
special afternoon tea last month in the new Regional
Dialysis Centre. Family, friends and staff were on hand to
watch them receive a certificate of recognition for their
ability to independently and safely perform dialysis at
home, their positive health behaviour and for being an
inspiration to others.
The highlight of the afternoon was ‘storytelling’ as each
patient shared their rich and diverse history, and told the
group how they continue to enjoy life despite being on
dialysis.
There are 23 patients aged 65 plus on home haemodialysis
under the care of Western Renal Service, and some of them
have been on home dialysis for more than ten years.
Research shows that home dialysis leads to better health
outcomes due patients’ ability to dialyse more frequently
or for longer duration, reduced travel time, and
independence. Congratulations, one and all!
REGISTER FOR HOPE: Its Donate Life Week and you can
help end the wait by registering online to be a donor. Staff
members Monica and Karla were on hand this week to
encourage people to sign up. Clinical nurse educator Karla
has a special reason to support the cause. Her dad received
a donor organ in 2011, after six years of dialysis. You can
read her heartwarming story in Humans of the Hospital on
WSLHD’s Facebook page.
ENDING SOON: Temporary exhibitions are ending soon so if you haven’t
seen the art on upper levels of the clinical services building, there’s still time.
Works are by local artists and are for sale. For more information contact our
arts team via email at [email protected] From left,
Atefeh Hekmat, Ghasan Saaid, Fabia Tory and Owen Thompson.

PARKING IS CHANGING
From Monday 15 August,
there will be a number of
parking changes on site.
P12 car park near child
care will become visitor
parking—no general staff
parking entry.
P12 also has marked
spaces for cancer,
respiratory, child care drop
off and on-call parking.
Please don’t park in these
spaces unless you are
authorised to do so.
The top level of P1 visitor
car park will be
quarantined for afternoon
staff. No staff entry until
1pm.
Three-hour parking limits
in P1 will be enforced.
Day staff please park in the
Bowling Club car park off
Hereward Ave during our
busy construction period.
We need all available on-
site parking for patients
and visitors during the day.
There will be more heavy
vehicles around the site.
Follow instructions from
traffic controllers, stay on
marked paths and drive
carefully.
A new multi-storey car
park will begin
construction later this
year. In the meantime,
thank you for your
patience!
Renal
HOSPITAL
P10
opens at
11am
Please help us preserve as much parking
as possible on site for patients and
visitors during this busy early
construction period.
If you work normal daytime business
hours, please park in the Bowling Club car
park off Hereward Highway.
It’s a short walk for you but it means a lot
to patients and visitors.
And it counts towards your 10,000 steps
a day!
P1 visitor car park
Top level (Upper 5) will be
quarantined for afternoon
visitors and staff until 1pm
Day staff please park in the
Bowling Club so that we can
preserve as much parking on
site as possible for patients
and visitors
