BLUFFTON UNITED METHODIST CHURCH MARCH 25, 2018 PASSION/PALM SUNDAY 8:30 & 11:00 AM

STEPHEN MINISTRY – The Season of Lent – Lent is a season of forty days, not counting Sundays, which begins on Ash Wednesday and ends on Holy Saturday. The forty days represents the time Jesus spent in the wilderness, enduring Satan’s temptation and preparing to begin His ministry.

Lent is generally a time of repentance, fasting and preparation for the coming of Easter. It’s a time of self-examination and reflection. As Christians, we focus on our relationship with God, often choosing to give up something or to volunteer and give of ourselves to others or to God.

During your time of Lenten reflection this year, if you find yourself wanting to talk confidentially with a Stephen Minister about something that’s concerning you, please contact one of our Stephen Leaders, Mary Ellen Parks at 843-368-1852 or Sara Jenkins at 843-705-2172. Our Ministers will listen to you and remind you of God’s constant Presence in your life.

Each week, there is a STEPHEN MINISTER from BUMC assigned to hospital duty.

If you hear of anyone in the hospital this week March 25 - 31, please call Marcia Farmer, 843.706.0858.

Maundy Thursday, March 28th – We will have a soup dinner and celebrate communion at 6:00 PM in the Fellowship Hall; followed by a service in the Sanctuary. All are invited to join the Youth Group as they present the “Stations of the Cross” as part of our Holy Week observance.

Bluffton United Methodist Church – 1853-2018 – 165 Years “The Mission of BUMC is to make disciples for Jesus Christ by sharing our loving relationship with Him

through all our actions in worship, nurture, education, evangelism and outreach.” Enter to Worship, Depart to Serve – A “Stephen Ministry” Church Pastor – Joey McDonald; Associate Pastor – Becky McCorkendale

MIRACLE JARS – In March, we are supporting Hardeeville Elementary School. Many of the students do not have enough food at home, and some parents are unable to apply for Backpack Buddies. Lunch is provided by the school, but sometimes it is the only meal they get. One child had asked to eat leftover beans from another's lunch! The money will be used to purchase food for the children to bring home

for the weekend. The Mission Team will purchase non-perishables to give to the teachers, and the

teachers would then put some items in the children's backpack on Fridays, so they will have a bit more to eat at home. We thank everyone for their support of our Mission Jars.

Carrefour Friends

Easter is just around the corner, but for many seniors what used to be a busy and bustling family holiday has now become a time of melancholy and solitude. Their children are grown, perhaps live out of state and have their own families to share in the traditional Easter festivities. Friends are getting older or have died. For many of these seniors, the feelings of loneliness and social isolation are all too common.

During any holiday it is an incredible comfort for these seniors to get a friendly visit from a Carrefour Friends volunteer. If you are interested in becoming a friend for someone who really needs one, please contact Jackie Tuohig at 913.748.5929 or email us at [email protected].

Carrefour Friends……care for friends.

CPR TRAINING – We will have a class here at the church on CPR Training, Wednesday, March 28TH, at 2:00 PM for anyone interested.

PLEASE NOTE: We will not have our Coffee Fellowship after the services on Easter Sunday, April 1st.

BRUNCH BUNCH – Our next Brunch will be at the British Open Pub in Sheridan Park on April 8th at 12:30 p.m. Please contact Russ Rymer if you plan to attend. 843.298.6566 or [email protected]

REMINDER: Offerings for the Democratic Republic of the Congo church (DRC) should be made out to BUMC with “DRC” on the memo line. Our goal is $15,000 for this project. To date you have given $7,485.00. Thank you very much for your continued support!

BUMC DEBT REDUCTION – If you are writing a check for your pledge (or making a donation) to help pay-off our debt for the church expansion – please indicate on the memo line “DTD” (Ditch the Debt).

At times, it’s confusing to know exactly what project a check is for unless there is a clear indication as noted above. Thank you for your cooperation.
