This was a federal priority for BioNebraska, and I was honored to be present during the signing. We believe the executive order willexpedite innovation and bring solutions to the market addressing the demands of a growing worldpopulation. During the visit, the President also touted the significance of E-15. Bio Nebraska joined the Nebraska delegation to represent our state at the BIO InternationalConvention in Philadelphia. BIO International is the world’s largest and most significant biotechnologyevent, drawing global industry and government leaders. It’s important for Nebraska to have a voiceduring the weeklong event. Bio Nebraska is excited to see Dr. Susan Fritz as the Interim President of the University of Nebraska.The University of Nebraska system is critical to the success of our biotech industry and we lookforward to working with interim President-Elect Fritz. Susan Fritz was named the new interim University of Nebraska president. Fritz Named Interim President of NU SystemSusan Fritz was named the University of Nebraska's interim president and will assume the role Aug.15. Fritz, a Nebraska native, first-generation college student, three-time Husker alumna, formerfaculty member and accomplished administrator, is the first woman to lead the NU system. The NUBoard of Regents named Fritz interim president-elect during their May 30 meeting. Fritz will becomeinterim president on Aug. 15 following the departure of NU President Hank Bounds. MatMaCorp Brings Genetic Testing to Veterinary ClinicsMatMaCorp has developed a system that enables veterinary clinics to conduct in-house DNA testingrather than outsourcing tests to labs. Nebraska Medicine Named Best Employer in StateNebraska Medicine is the best employer in Nebraska, according to Forbes Magazine. "This award isrecognition for the culture we want to have at Nebraska Medicine, it is a recognition of all of ourcolleagues," said CEO Jim Linder. The award is based on surveys of workers.

UNK students volunteer at a mobile medical clinic during a recent trip to Panama. UNK Medical Outreach an Eye-Opening ExperienceTwenty-one UNK student volunteers worked in mobile medical clinics that provided free care to morethan 300 Panamanian patients. “A lot of people take for granted what we have here in the States,”said Bailey Premer, a junior from Kearney. “Down there you see all the poverty and the lack ofopportunities they have to get even basic medical care.”

UNMC’s Caroline Ng is involved in a study addressing malaria, which last year infected over 200million people and killed half a million. Multidrug-Resistant Malaria Target IdentifiedA study involving Caroline Ng, UNMC department of pathology and microbiology, found a potentialtarget to overcome multidrug-resistant malaria. UNMC Shares In $175 Million GrantUNMC is part of a national consortium awarded a five-year, $175 million funding agreement from theNational Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to study Earth system science. Advance Could Enhance Vaccine for Respiratory DiseaseUNL’s Eric Weaver, Brianna Bullard and Brigette Corder have developed a strain of Adenovirus, Ad7,that lacks ability to replicate beyond the genetic line of host cells it initially invades. The strainreplicated enough within host cells to generate immunity but was potentially less likely to shed livevirus from vaccinated people. The strain could be a basis for a new vaccine.
