María Jesús ESTEBAN (Chair of BCAM Scientific Advisory Committee) New member of Jakiunde Jakiunde is the Basque Academy of Sciences, Arts and Humanities, founded in 2007 María Jesús ESTEBAN (Mathematics), Paco ETXEBERRIA (Medicine), and Teresa CATALAN (Music) are the new members of the 69 prestigious and multidisciplinary academics and professionals of Jakiunde. The first plenary meeting of Jakiunde this year, last Friday, April 17, approved the incorporation of the new academics to be invested in their positions at the next plenary meeting in November 2015 at the headquarters of Torre Olaso in Bergara. Jakiunde aims to become a forum of reference for Basque society, language and culture, bringing together personalities publicly recognized for their work in different fields of pure and applied sciences, artistic creation and critical thinking, which committed to work together to contribute to the society with their reflections from different fields of knowledge and art, to the new challenges of the future. Jakiunde spreads knowledge of Sciences, Arts and Letters by leading training and outreach programs targeting youth. Among others: Topaketa and Jakin-mine and this year Krisiak 2015 address the crisis situations in an opportunity for human creativity, innovation and social change. María Jesús ESTEBAN (Alonsotegi, Bizkaia, 1956) has a BA in Mathematics from UPV / EHU- University of the Basque Country UPV / EHU, PhD from the Université Pierre et Marie Courie and currently Research Director at CNRS-Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique, working at CEREMADE (CNRS and Université Paris- Dauphine, where is professor) She is president of the Scientific Advisory Committee of BCAM, the International Council for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (ICIAM) and member of various advisory bodies such as the Committee for selection of Abel (Nobel Math) Awards. She has also the distinction of French Chevaliere de l'Ordre National du Merite (2012). Her research is focused on the mathematical modeling in physics and quantum chemistry. Bilbao, April 23, 2015

María Jesús ESTEBAN (Presidenta del Comité Científico de BCAM)nueva académica de Jakiunde

Jakiunde es la Academia Vasca de las Ciencias, las Artes y las Letras, fundada en 2007María Jesús ESTEBAN (Matematicas), Paco ETXEBERRIA (Medicina), y Teresa CATALAN (Música) Los nuevos académicos son Paco Etxeberria (Medicina), María Jesús Esteban (Matemáticas) y Teresa Catalán (Música) para un total de 69 miembros multidisciplinares de gran prestigio académico y profesional.

El primer Pleno Ordinario del año de Jakiunde el viernes 17 de Abril aprobó la incorporación de sus nuevos académicos que serán investidos en sus cargos en el próximo pleno de noviembre 2015 en la sede de Torre Olaso de Bergara.

Jakiunde tiene el propósito de convertirse en un foro de referencia para la sociedad vasca, su lengua y su cultura, agrupando a personalidades reconocidas públicamente por su labor en diferentes disciplinas de las ciencias puras y las aplicadas, la creación artística y el pensamiento crítico, que apuestan por trabajar en común para aportar a la sociedad sus reflexiones, desde distintos campos del conocimiento y del arte, ante los nuevos retos de futuro.

Jakiunde difunde el conocimiento de las Ciencias, las Artes y las Letras mediante destacados programas de formación y divulgación dirigidos a los jóvenes. Entre otros: Topaketa y Jakin-mina y este año con Krisiak 2015 abordarán las crisis como situaciones de oportunidad para la creatividad humana, la innovación y el cambio social.

María Jesús ESTEBAN

(Alonsotegi, Bizkaia, 1956) Es licenciada en Matemáticas por UPV/EHU-Universidad del País Vasco / Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea, doctora por la Université Pierre et Marie Courie y actualmente es Directora de Investigación del CNRS-Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique, trabajando en el CEREMADE (C.N.R.S. y Université Paris-Dauphine, dónde es profesora)

Es Presidenta del Consejo Científico de BCAM, del International Council for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (ICIAM) y miembro de diferentes órganos de asesoramiento, como el Comité de selección de los Premios Abel (Nobel de Matemáticas). Posee además la distinción francesa de Chevaliere de l’Ordre National du Merite (2012). Su investigación concierne a la modelización matemática en física y a la química cuántica.
