Since the press assumes that the incident at sleepy lagoon was illegal, there assumption illustrates how little they expect of the Mexican American population.

There constant questioning also makes it seem like they are digging for something dirty, almost like they want something bad to happen. Their depiction impacts the reading because it casts the press in a negative light.

Family and Beating Juxtaposition

Showing Henry in the two scenes with the interrogation and then his flashback with his family shows how he is humanized, when he goes back home to his family. He is a complete different person at home and is just a normal son in a normal family. It shows his two sides to him which gives us more to think about.

It shows two behaviors depending on who he is interacting his family humanizes him keeps him look like a loving person
