1 BERITA RAFOC 04 / 2015 MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT A “HAPPY NEW YEAR 2016” and may the year 2016 bring continued good health and happiness to us and our families. Likewise, may the year 2016 bring further progress to RAFOC in its objects and activities. The last quarter 2015 saw three major activities organised by RAFOC. The “Annual Golf“ was successfuly held in October, the “Deepavali Lunch” in November and the Annual Dinner” in December. I am pleased to note that all these activities were well participated and supported by our members and other retired Armed Forces officers. Our Executive Committee was kept busy during the quarter. In addition to the committee meetings, representatives from our committee attended a discussion organised by JHEV to prepare a blueprint on the Armed Forces veterans for the Minister of Defence and a briefing on the registration of the Armed Forces veterans’ associations/clubs with JHEV as required by the Akta Veteran 2012. In addition, representatives from our committee continued to visit our members and other retired Armed Forces officers in HAT Tuanku Mizan, Kuala Lumpur during the quarter. Our Deepavali Lunch, Annual Dinner and Golf Sub-Committees were also kept busy organising their respective activities during the quarter. Our RAFOC Secretariat continued to provide information to our members on the activities of RAFOC as well as news on our members and other retired Armed Forces officers via the internet, website, whatsapp and sms. On membership, I am pleased to welcome another 14 retired Armed Forces officers as new members of RAFOC during the quarter. At the same time, I note with sadness the passing of six of our retired Armed Forces officers during the quarter. 2015 was another good year for RAFOC. We were able to hold our normal activities less the scheduled forum and the gof game with the Alumni PTD. 70 new members registered during the year, thus increasing our membership total to 694 members (less 47 who are no longer with us) as at 31 December 2015. I trust 2016 will continue to be another good year. The Executive Committee will discuss the activities to be held in 2016 at our next committee meeting. Nontheless RAFOC will continue to hold the activities held in 2015 and possibily with one or two other activities. Financially, our funds are good enough to keep RAFOC going for the year 2016, with the surplus from our Annual Dinner and other donations/contributions in 2015. The committee is looking for ways to improve our financial standing for the long term objects of our Association. I welcome solutions from members on this matter. On membership, our membership is still small compared to the number of the Armed Forces officers who have since retired or left the Armed Forces. I urge members to assist to get their intake members who are still not members to register as members. We need to increase our membership so that RAFOC can truly represent the retired Armed Forces officers’ community. OTHERS

In addition to those mentioned above, there werealso a number who were commissioned directly as PDList officers (Doctors, Engineers and Education Officers),as well as other General Duty officers, WorkshopExecutive Officers and Quartermasters in the year 1965.

Unfortunately, we do not have the records of theseofficers at present. Our RAFOC Secretariat is workingwith JRP to get the list for our future recognitions.

All in all, it was a good event, held as part of theprogramme for the Annual Dinner. RAFOC will continueto recognise the retired Armed Forces officers who werecommissioned 50 years since the year of the annualdinner. In 2016, RAFOC will recognise those who werecommissioned in 1966. But the recognition will only beaccorded to those who will be at the dinner.

To those who were commissioned 50 years ago in1965, we wish them nostalgic memories of theirtraining days and the day they were commissioned.

(Note: The above facts and figures may not be 100%correct. Our RAFOC Secretariat welcome any commentsand corrections on and from the above intakes).
