When a church is loving, it will attract people like a magnet. Romans 14 shows us six ways that we are to build each other up rather than tearing one another down. 1. The first commitment to making a congregation more unified is committing ourselves to building each other up. What kind of difference would it make if we let each other know that we are praying for them and we wrote cards to one another to encourage them? Life’s tough and there’s already enough discouraging people in the world that we need more encouragers. 2. The second commitment for growing a more loving church is recognizing the value of each person. Every church comprises a broad range of personalities. Inevitably someone will be viewed as obnoxious or immature. But the value of a loving church is that while you may disagree with others, you never forget that Christ died for them. Teach and model the belief that everybody is important to God. 3. The third commitment for growing a more unified church is keeping our focus on what’s important. Remember that most churches tend to divide over trivial issues and personalities rather than major doctrinal issues. As a Christian, our job description is to build up other Christians. If we want to be like Christ, we must put the needs of others ahead of our own and be a servant. 4. The fourth commitment for growing a more unified church is limiting our liberty out of love for one another. When my liberty limits the work of God, then I’ve got a problem. When you are a Christian, you need to be aware that there are some things that perhaps you could do technically but won’t do because you are aware of your influence. Your love for your brother will cause you to live differently. 5. The fifth commitment for growing a more loving church is not forcing my opinion on others. In matters of opinion, it is good to keep it between me and the Lord. I can practice my freedom without parading it. Romans 12:18 reminds me that “As far as it depends on you, be at peace with all men.” We should allow our love to overcome matters of opinion and in every case show love and kindness. 6. One last commitment for a growing and loving church is living by faith. “The man who has doubts is condemned if he eats.” If are going to be a mature believer, you must study your Bible enough to develop biblical convictions and be lovingly honest about them. These attributes will help us to be a church that is pleasing to God and attractive to those who are seeking out the truth. No church, or person, is perfect in all things. But we do have a healthy church that is growing in peace and love and harmony. WITB 107.1 FM Benton Church of Christ Sun. 9am & 6pm Weds. Bible Class 6:30pm Feb 4 2018

A great deal of research and study has been to done to answer the question of “How can we create a growing and unified church?” One of the answers to this question is to create a spirit of love and harmony among the membership.
