To keep functioning effectively the P&C really need your support! Today a separate letter
requesting your help will come home. The more support the P&C receives the more events they
are able to plan for the students. A new approach is being trialled by asking one parent from each
classroom to be the parent representative for that room. Even if you cannot commit to this, small
amounts of occasional help are welcomed.
Shared Lunch
Thank you so much to all of you who supported our shared lunch last Tuesday. There was an
absolute mountain of delicious food and nobody went hungry! It was great to see so many parents
and relatives here enjoying lunch with their children.
Stationery Donation
Last week our School Chaplain, Mrs Remi Toluwade, received a large donation of stationery from
Campion Education on behalf of the school. This stationery will be used as extra resources which
teachers can access to support students. Campion's generosity is greatly appreciated.
Smart Phone App
The school is currently in the process of developing a new phone app. This app will allow parents
to report absences, access the newsletter and other information. It will also have a push notification
feature which we can use to send you important information quickly. It is hoped that the new app
will be ready for use early next term.
Parking Forum
I recently attended a school parking forum at the City of Gosnells. It would seem that all schools in
our area suffer the same issues that we do in regards to the problems experienced with
congestion, double parking and the like (particularly at the end of the school day). While it is not
possible to have a Ranger in attendance they are making an effort to get to as many schools as
possible to monitor and advise motorists of the correct parking options. We will keep reinforcing
safety messages to the students and ask that everyone drives cautiously during pick up and drop
off times. Please do not park in neighbours driveways.
Easter Holiday
I wish all of our students and their families a safe and happy Easter.
A reminder that school will be closed tomorrow (Good Friday) and will re-open on Wednesday
April 4th.
Kind Regards
John Gillett

HARMONY DAY
On Harmony Day, Year 1
and 2 classes participated
in a mini cultural fair. Each
class went to different
classrooms and learnt a few
things from different
countries and cultures. We
watched and learnt some
fantastic demonstrations
including; moves from a
Nepali dance, Rangoli and
how to make it, the song My
Balloons in Indonesian and
heard all about what it is like
to live in Brazil. We thank
all who showed us a
demonstration as the students
thoroughly enjoyed it and it
added to their Harmony Day
experience.
HELPING HANDS BECKENHAM NEWS UPDATE
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Harmony Day: We celebrated Harmony Day at our service with children and families on 15th March. Some of the parents and our Regional Operations Manager (ROM) joined us for multicultural afternoon tea. They brought some delicious foods from their cultures and we enjoyed eating a variety of foods. Moreover, the parents and children did some theme based activities together such as Harmony Day Hands, and Friendship Chains. Our Becoming Tree: we have started this centre based project where parents are requested to set some goals (academic, social and/or personal) for their children to achieve. The Helping Hands staff will guide and help children accomplish these assigned goals during their time with us. Some of the parents wrote these goals for their children on Harmony Day celebration day. National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence: On 16th March we held a discussion session with children and discussed the ways to stand against bullying and where to seek help if someone needs to. All the children contributed actively in this discussion. Fire Drill: evacuation drill was performed on 22nd March in the morning with all children present. The children followed all directions well and contributed in discussion about Do's and Don'ts during an emergency. Easter Activities: The children demonstrated their artistic skills through their creative art works relating to Easter. For instance, bunny ears, eggs, baskets etc. One of the walls is dedicated to display children's work.
