Bariatric Surgery project

–Multidisciplinary initiative:• eHealth researchers:

– Technological requirements.– Technical development.

• Healthcare professionals (Radiologist and Surgeon):– Clinical requirements.– Patients data collection.– Platform validation.

Context

–Obesity (BMI>30) is a metabolic disorder with a higher rate of prevalence in the world. –Obesity is considerate the first cause of death after smoking causes.–Obesity could lead to the development of comorbidities:

• diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, osteoarthritis, gout, hyperlipidemia, choleithiasis and sleep apnea.

Problematic

–The patients normally can lose around the 70% of weight.–The weight loss depends on several factors The most controllable is the surgery.–The 3D model of the patient’s stomach and the surgery simulation high interest for the clinical evaluation.–Some of the existing platforms generate a generic 3D model of the stomach.

Develop a Virtual Reality Platform to support surgeons to prepare and perform the surgery as well as estimate patient’s evolution.

Helps to select the best type of surgery of each patient, based on:• 3D model of the stomach patient.• Surgeon simulation.• Predictive algorithm to predict patient's weight lose

Platform: Main functionalities

–Generate 3D model of the patient stomach.–Surgeon simulation over 3D model.

–Estimation of patient’s evolution.

–Integration patient information with Hospital information systems.
