A TAXONOIC REVISION OF THE NEMATOE SPECIES (ORYLAIMIA
REPORTED BY KHERA (1970) FROM INDIA
ASER H. BAQRI
Zolgical Survey f Inda, Calcuta
ABSTRACT
Out of nematode species reported by Khera (9) from te bank of still and running
water om India, te specimens o 5 species are avaiable in he National Zoologcal Collectons of the Zoologcal Suvey of Inda Calcutta. These speimens were re-examned and it
was noted that the taxonomical status of some needed revson Moreover the descriptions
and ilustrations as provded by Khera were also inadequate The presnt paper reports the
canes in the taxonomical status of the following species : Dorylaimus stagnalis Djardin 1845om Jodhpur as Laimydorus fnalis Thorne 95 Dory!aimus ruwenzorii apud Khera 90 asMesodorylimus sp ; Dorylaimus multialaeus Kera 9 transerred to aimydorus. The maeo Eudorylaimus odher apud Khera 9 along wit an unidentied mae on the same sliderepresents a new species Laimydos khera.
The status of Dorylaimus stagnalis apud Khera 9 partim om Lucknow a snge femaleof Eudry!aimus odhneri and Actinoaimus omrooperi remains unchanged

Khera (970) reported 11 nematode specesincluding two new of the Order Dorlaimdafom t banks of still and running waters

DESCIION
Female : Body irregularly curved uponxation taperin gradually towards both
ends. Cuticle about 2 m thick nely striated transversely. Lateral chords 1/3.5 ofbodywidth near middle. Ventral dorsal andlateral body pores not seen.
Lip region oset from body by a constriction about !th of bodywidt at base ofoesophagus. Amphidial pouches not seen.Odontostyle 13 m or 1.8 lip region-widthslon aperture 4.5 m or about 35% of theodontostyle length. Guidin ring 7.2 m or0.9 lip regon-width om anterior end.Odontophore 15.5 m or about 1.2 times theodontostyle length.
Basal expanded part of oesophagus occupying about 40% of the neck reion.Oesophageal gland neclei and their oricesnot visible Cardia short rounded Nerve
ring 85 m or about 33% of the neck regionrom anterior end. Prerectum 66 m orabout 4.5 anal bodywidths long. Rectum21 m or 1.5 anal bodywiths lon.
Vulva transverse ushed with body.Vagina 15 m or slightly less han i of thecorresponding body-width Reproductivesystem amphidelphic Uterus and oviductseparated by a sphincter. Oocytes arranged
in a single row except in the growth region.
Tail elonate-conoid 67 m or about 4.7anal bodywidths lon. Caudal pores notseen.
Habitat and lality: From the banks ofsline ditch at Pachhapadra Raasthan.
Remark Since D ruwenzrii de Coninck1935 had already been transferred by An
drssy (959) to his newly proposed genuMesdylaimu, Khera (970) must have
reported Pachhapadra population (3 ) as. ruwenzorii. Out of 3 females only oneale mounted on slid W 7192/1 alongwith juvenile of some unidentied doylaim
species was aailable which conrms that thelongitudinl ridges (32) reported by Khera(l.c.) are not present. The present study alsoreveals that the single available malebelongs to the genus M esodorylaimus but itdiers from M. ruwenzrii in having shorterodontostyle odontophore and tail (odontostyle 16 m odontophore about 15 times
the odontostyle length and c= 10 in M.ruwenzorii). However Khera had measuredthe odontostyle 10-1 m and calculated thevalue of c =9 13.5.
Unrnately it was not possible toidentify this specimen to speies levelbecaue of bad preservation. Hence it hasbee reported as esdrylaimu sp.
