Amelia Patchett Band/Artist Analysis In this picture of Ed Sheeran, the use of thirds is used as his eyes are in line with the first landscape line and then its his body in the second box going down and finally the guitar. Going from left to right, in the first third its just his arm and guitar in the second one it shows his head looking down and more of the guitar and lastly it just shows balnk space with the tip of the guitar. This could represent that with the guitar, it can cover all aspects of his life even though he might be holding back on some parts. He has a spotlight on him suggesting he is normally in the limelight with his career. As well as that, this shows a medium shot in which case lets him express himself through his body and object which is why he could drop his head as it doesn’t need to be shown. However, by him dropping his head it could also mean that he could be hiding something. The blue shirt In this image, Beyoncé is photographed in an informal way but balanced out through the picture as most of her face is on the right of the picture yet her hair fills in quite a lot of the right side because it is quite thick making the right side seem more lopsided. The use of sepia which adds a look of black and white makes it seem simple and elegant. Also portraying that there might be two sides to her a darker side and a light one that all people usually see. The shot taken is a close up as you can only see her neck and head this allows her to glam up her photo using sparkly jewellery to make her stand out more as she can’t use her body and clothing as an object of projection to the viewer. Her facial expression and the way her eyes wonder behind the lenses with her lips open make us eager to find out what she’s actually looking at, as this image seems to have caught her before she was about to say something. However, the black and white also make her look more natural as you can’t really see the make up on her face other than her bold glossy lipstick and long, flattering eyelashes in which makes her look flawless. Furthermore, the image has her photographed in Indirect Address, indicating that she is looking at something or someone which gives a scene of narrative to the reader as to who or what she is looking at.

Band/Artist AnalysisIn this image, Beyoncé is photographed in an informal way but balanced out through the picture as most of her face is on the right of the picture yet her hair fills in quite a lot of the right side because it is quite thick making the right side seem more lopsided. In this picture of Ed Sheeran, the use of thirds is used as his eyes are in line with the first landscape line and then its his body in the second box going down and finally the guitar. Going from left to right, in the first third its just his arm and guitar in the second one it shows his head looking down and more of the guitar and lastly it just shows balnk space with the tip of the guitar. This could represent that with the guitar, it can cover all aspects of his life even though he might be holding back on some parts. As well as that, this shows a medium shot in which case lets him express himself through his body and object which is why he could drop his head as it doesn’t need to be shown. However, by him dropping his head it could also mean that he could be hiding something. The blue shirt represents the stereotypical colour of a male which highlights his masculinity. Another thing that highlights this would be that he purposely put his tatoos on show. But this could also be a way that he is expressing himself rather than saying it, he’s showing in this picture that he speaks out through his tatoos and music instead.

This portrait of Sam Smith is also in black and white and is a close up shot. However, only half of his face is in the light therefore leaving the other side in the dark. This could signify that he has only showed us half of what he can do in his career and has the potential for more great things. He is looking up to the corner past the camera with a concentrated eye. He looks focused and hopeful as if he’s just looked up from praying in which you would get that idea because of the earing cross in his ear, representing his beliefs. The picture doesn’t show much other than his face and that he looks smart as to what we can see of his clothing. I would say that this picture is based upon an informal symmetrical setting as the right side of his face is more in the light and shown rather than the left side. In addition, the use of Indirect Address also works here as he is gazing past the camera and into the distance; making the reader want to know who or what he is looking at.

This is a symmetrical picture of the band The Pierces in which the picture can split straight down the middle and either side would be the same as they are both in black, they are both looking down with their eyes and they both have their arms down by their side therefore making it symmetrical. The white, shadowed background suggests that they are more or less pure but have some past that they can’t get rid of, in which could be portrayed through their songs. This could also be represented by their gothic clothing which contrasts to their pale skin. However, they also look dangerous by the thick eyeliner on their eyes emphasising the dark side to them and highlighting that they’re not just the simple nice girls and maybe they’re not to be messed with. However, it could just mean simplicity as they aren’t really posing or wearing any glittery jewellery like in pictures of Beyoncé. The lace on the arms could act quite sexy and portray them that way which opens up to male listeners.

This long shot of the band the 5 Seconds of Summer also uses in an informally balanced layout as they are all sat down and stereos are also behind all of them, however the third one has his legs out and they all have their arms positioned differently, as well as the first person not actually looking at the camera. Even though they all have a bit of black on (which may show their dark side) they also have their own styles. For example the first person has totally different hair compared to all the rest as it represents him and the genre of rock whereas they others like to keep it plain and simple. As well as that, they emphasise that they all cope to things differently by how comfortable they are by how they all sit and pose in front of the camera which could come down to confidence. The colours are quite plain and modern such as the black, white, maroon, and oak colours which represent that they can be simple even though they are a part of a rock/indie type of genre in which you would see them as quite exaggerating with the types of clothes they wear therefore it challenges the stereotype of rock/indie. This image relates to the genre of pop rock due to the different stereos behind them which creates the genre of different rock ages. As well as that, the wacky hair and dark makeup for the man on the far left represents the stereotypical representation of rock. In addition, the types of clothing and position of =how they are sat down represents more of a pop genre as the clothes aren’t heavily dark and they aren’t doing any typical rock poses for the picture.
