The present technical conditions determine sizes, properties, scope of application and final manufac-ture of regulating dampers manufactured by IMOS-Systemair spol. s.r.o. The specifications apply todesign, ordering, production, delivery, acceptance and use of these products as of January 1, 2005.

I. GENERAL

The IMOS-RK and IMOS-RKT regulating dampers are designed for the smooth control of the volume of airflow. The IMOS-RKT tight damper is also designed for closing the airflow tightly but is not manufactured as gastight. Dampers are used in

ducts, air conditioning units as well as in mixing chambers of air conditioning devices. The IMOS-RK and IMOS-RKTdampers are designed to operate at temperatures ranging from -20 to 100°C and at pressure differential of up to 4,000

Pa and 80% humidity. The maximum airflow velocity is 20ms-1. The design of the IMOS-RK and IMOS-RKT enables their

installation to the opening in the wall or to the duct. It is possible to connect the damper to the flanges of width 20mm

(P20) and width 30 mm (P30).

The IMOS - RK and IMOS - RKT regulating dampers con-

sist of rectangular frame manufactured from horizontal 1

and vertical 2 channel frames between which the channel

blades 4 are situated. The channel blades 4 in the IMOS-RK and IMOS - RKT dampers where the width is less than

1000mm form one field. In dampers where the width is

more than 1000 mm a vertical channel 3 is inserted in the

middle. It divides the damper blades 4 into two fields. The

blades 4 are set in opposed directions through a cogwheel

transmission. The channel blades 4 in the IMOS - RKdamper are without sealing. The blades 4 in the IMOS -RKT damper are interlockingly sealed by means of rubber

sealing. In the ends the blades are fitted with sealing

sheets 7 with self-adhesive seals. The blades 4 are

inserted into the channels 5 and 6. The adjusting and

arresting mechanism 8 provides adjustment and fixing of

channel blades 4 in selected position on the damper,

which is operated manually.

Manufacturing Of The Regulating Dampers

By the type of tightness of the closed space and by manner of damper control, the following damper modifications are

supplied to the market:

Regulating damper IMOS-RK. The main parts of the damper are its frame and the channel blades, which are made of

aluminum sheets without surface finish. The parts that serve to fix, insert and rotate the blades are made of plastic mate-

rials. Other constructional elements are made of aluminum sheet. The standard model of IMOS-RK is delivered with a

frame without holes in the corners that serve as a connection to the duct.

Tight damper IMOS-RKT. The main parts of the damper are its frame and the channel blades, which are made of alu-

minum sheets without surface finish. The parts that serve to fix, insert and rotate the blades are made of plastic materials.

Sealing of the blades are made of a special rubber mixture. Other constructional elements are made of aluminum sheet.

The standard model of IMOS-RKT is delivered with a frame without holes in the corners that serve as a connection to the

duct.

Manual operation - R. The parts designed to control the damper are made of non-alloy construction steel with zinc-plat-

ed surface. The connecting material has either anticorrosive finish or is made of aluminum. For the damper IMOS-RKT isthe manual operation shown if the dimension a ≤ 1000 in fig.2 and if a >1000 in fig.3. The model of damper IMOS-RKwith manual operation is shown in fig.2. The height level of the operating mechanism is for both types on the level of b/2.

Servomotor operation - S consists of a zinc- plated extended square steel pin with dimensions12×12 mm and zinc-

plated surface. Since there is a wide availability of suitable servomotors from various manufacturers, the dampers are

delivered without such motors.

Stating the damper parameters

Example 1:Given are: Searched for:Flow velocity in the duct v = 6 m.s-1 Blade positioning angle α = ?°

Pressure drop ∆p = 100 Pa Acoustic power L = ? dB(A)

In Diagram 1 we can find the points of intersection of the given values. By interpolating between the curves we can deter-

mine that the angle of the blade position for the given values should be equal α = 25° while L = 84 dB(A).

Example 2:Given are: Searched for:Duct with damper a=1400 mm, b=1600 mm Flow when damper closed q

C= ? m3.h-1

Pressure drop ∆p = 100 Pa

Besides the flow qVLBA

diagram 2 states also the class of damper tightness represented by the IMOS-RKT curve. We will

determine the point of intersection of the pressure drop on the given line and will subtract the value of the flow qVLBA

= 68,4

m3.h-1.m-2. We will then determine the cross-section of the duct from the relationship S = axb = 1,4x1,6 = 2,24 m2. Accord-

ingly, the total flow through the damper will be qC

= qVLBA

. S = 68,4 x 2,24 = 153,2 m3.h-1.

Explanatory notes:

a - a- damper width [mm] ∆p - pressure difference in flow meter [Pa]

b - b- damper height [mm] qC

- flow when damper closed [m3.h-1, l.s-1]

v - flow velocity in the duct [m.s-1] qvLBA

- flow through leakage of the damper to the area unit of duct cross section

α - blade positioning angle [°] [m3.h-1.m-2, l.s.m-2]

Fig.9 Mounting and adjusting the regulation damper

During the lifetime of the damper no maintenance is required. In equipment requiring strictly tight closure of dampers it is

recommended that after 10 years of operation the tightness of the seals on the blades is checked.

III. CHECKING, ACCEPTING, AND WARRANTY

The manufacturer provides a quality and completeness checking. Every damper functionality is tested by the

manufacturer. The manufacturer grants 24 months´ guarantee from the dispatch date. Acceptance is due to valid instruc-

tions in the company.

IV. MOUNTING AND MAINTENANCE

Mounting of the damper is provided by regular means used by mounting of ventilation units.

Prior to the mounting of the regulating damper it is required that holes are drilled on its frame that correspond with the size

of the opposite holes on the duct flange. If the damper is to be mounted on tinny flanges smaller in size than 750×750,

the damper must be connected with four M8×20 sized screws, which are inserted into the holes produced according to

the carobs of duct contra flange. The same result can be attained also by applying two sets of four retracting connectors

fitted onto the frame channel with a width of 25 mm. Between the flanges it is needed to insert a soft sealing with one side

being self-adhesive. When mounting a damper with dimensions equal to or greater than 750×750 we should combine

screws in the corners with retracting connectors or only retracting connectors are used along the whole perimeter of the

frame. The values of the tightening torque depend on the mechanical properties of the used screws of particular size and

they are following: M6-(5-7 Nm), M8-(11-16 Nm), M10-(22-30 Nm).

These values are applicable only if a seal made on the base of technical rubber or a material with similar features is used

between the flanges. The adjusting and arresting mechanism allow adjusting the channel blades of the dampers. After

adjusting the amount of airflow the adjusting lever 5 is fixed to the damper with a screw 7 and a wing nut 6 to the lever

holder 4. Direction of the opening and closing of the damper is indicated by stickers on the side channel 2 where also

the damper holder is 4.
