Rathert Stadium

900 W. 13th St.

You’ll think you’ve stepped back in time when you visit the restored Rathert Stadium. Rathert Stadium is named in

honor of City Engineer Arthur Rathert, who donated many late night hours to make this venue a reality for Junction

City. Originally a WPA project, Rathert Stadium was completed in 1937 and described as “the finest baseball stadium

in Kansas.” This architectural landmark is constructed of native limestone with wooden seating. Circular in shape, the

stadium faces northeast and the open grillwork at the back provides for air circulation, making the stadium cooler.

The City of Junction City and Central Plains Baseball have made considerable improvements to accommodate more

fans and to enhance the beauty of this baseball treasure. A renovation in 1996 gave the stadium a new roof and newly

painted bleachers and restrooms. Major renovations in 2002 included work on the stadium, seats, locker rooms, press

box, lights, fencing around the field, and outside the stadium, the parking lot and picnic shelters at the cost of

$516,141. Phase II of the project, costing $200,000, improved Cleary Park around the stadium.

In 2005, the Lucas Family brought the Junction City Generals to Rathert Stadium and played competitive summer

league collegiate baseball. Along with the City of Junction City, they further developed Rathert Stadium and added

additional seating, a concessions area, and multiple elevated wood decks for patrons. Rathert Stadium is currently

home to the Junction City Brigade Baseball Team and the Junction City Reds Baseball Club.
