college or are enjoying retirement,

we invite you to participate in our

alumnae group.

I have enjoyed reflecting on the

words by Julia Maude Foster, one

of our founders:

“We were a committee of 10 and

we knew early what principles we

wanted. What we lacked in wis-

dom, we made up in enthusi-

asm………the soil in which these

seeds were planted was a sturdy,

staunch, enduring friendship, the

sunlight of our love and loyalty.

They were planted seeds and came

In Sisterhood,

Dianne Ensign Ziegler

Greetings Sisters,

“Alpha Xi Delta…….always on

my mind”- –this is the theme for

our 2011 National Convention and

it is becoming my own personal

commitment. As the newly elected

president for the next two years, I

look forward to serving our Den-

ver Alumnae Association.

My husband and I moved to Den-

ver eight years ago from Rich-

mond, Virginia. Since graduating

from college in 1965 this was my

first sorority experience. I was so

proud to be able to wear the quill

again. I have been inspired by my

Alpha Xi Delta alumnae sisters in

the past eight years and hope to

continue these friendships through-

out my life.

Our group offers many diverse

opportunities to enrich our Alpha

Xi Delta bonds…….participating

in the Sweet Charity brunch event,

attending monthly meetings, play-

ing bridge………just to name a

few.

We also take great pride in our

association with Autism Speaks,

our national philanthropy. Through

different projects, Alpha Xi Deltas

nationally have raised over

$500,000 for Autism Speaks. We

have also raised awareness about

autism in our alumnae group.

President’s Letter

Conventions Highlights by Dianne Ziegler & Carol Clare

The “buzz” word for the 2011

Convention in Atlanta is “MAX”.

This stands for Marketing Alpha

Xi. It is an initiative of the Nation-

al Fraternity. The MAX theory

was developed in 2008. Its goal is

for every 18 year old woman to

recognize and know our letters

before attending her first college

recruitment party.

MAX has grown into a way of

inspiring Alpha Xi Deltas to be

proud of their sorority and chal-

lenges us to find ways to promote

Alpha Xi Delta throughout our

community. We can now reach out

to so many young women with our

new technologies such as Face-

book and Twitter.

At luncheons, breakout sessions,

and general meetings Carol and I

were given new ideas for promot-

ing Alpha Xi Delta.

Over $500,000 has been raised for

Autism Speaks. We have brought

back great philanthropy fundrais-

ing ideas and have met with sisters

who area very involved with Au-

tism Speaks.

Congratulations to Barbara Hoo-

ver, the Edna Epperson Brinkman

Award winner this year. This

award recognizes an alumna mem-

ber’s accomplishments and dedica-

tion to the Fraternity and her service

to her community over a long period

of time.

For the fifth consecutive year the

Denver Alumnae Association has

been honored to receive the Ruth

Simmons James Award with High-

est Honors. This is the highest

award an alumnae can receive from

the national fraternity.

We have been truly inspired and

have a renewed love and pride for

Alpha Xi Delta. We want to thank

everyone in our alumnae group for

allowing us to attend.

One benefit of using your news-

letter as a promotional tool is

that you can reuse content from

other marketing materials, such

as press releases, market studies,

and reports.

While your main goal of distrib-

uting a newsletter might be to

sell your product or service, the

key to a successful newsletter is

making it useful to your readers.

A great way to add useful con-

tent to your newsletter is to de-

cles, or include a calendar of

upcoming events or a special

offer that promotes a new prod-

uct.

You can also research articles or

find “filler” articles by accessing

the World Wide Web. You can

write about a variety of topics

but try to keep your articles

short.

Much of the content you put in

your newsletter can also be used

for your Web site. Microsoft

thousands of clip art images

from which you can choose and

import into your newsletter.

There are also several tools you

can use to draw shapes and sym-

bols.

This story can fit 75-125 words.

Selecting pictures or graphics is

an important part of adding con-

Sweet Charity Brunch and Auction Saturday, October 22, 2011

9:00 am to 2:30 pm It was fun! It was a huge success! We’re doing it again and we need

your help! Basic Facts:

It’s our only fundraising event. All proceeds from ticket sales support our philanthropic projects – Autism Speaks, the Boys and Girls Club of Denver, FACES (Family, Advocacy, Care, Education, Support), the Family Crisis Center, and the Tennyson Center for Children.

Same fantastic location and once again it features a delicious brunch catered by Le Peep, a live auction, a silent auction, boutique, and an unbelievable bake sale.

Credit cards, cash and checks accepted. Flyers and tickets available at our September Salad Supper and October

meeting. (Or, contact Co-Chair listed below) Tickets are still just $15.00! ($20.00 at the door)

We need your support:

DONATE something for the live or silent auction. Share a special talent or a service. Some ideas include: something special that you have handcrafted; a game night at your home; “chick flick” night; bridge party for 8; Broncos game day tailgate party; gourmet dinner; bowling night for 4; an afternoon of stitching with snacks; a tea party, brunch fit for the king; etc. Bring donations to the September or October meetings.

ASK a business you support to donate a gift certificate.

SHARE a talent or hobby: bridge lessons, knitting or crochet lessons, card making, scrapbooking, computer help, genealogy, hike for 2 along the Highline Canal followed by a tasty treat, etc.

SHARE flyers with your friends everywhere. Post them at church, at Curves, craft stores, the gym, community bulletin boards, everywhere you go!

PURCHASE 4 tickets. Resell them or give to special friends and family members. Invite one new friend (in addition to others) this year! Word of mouth is our best advertising.

If you can’t join us…..consider making a cash contribution. VOLUNTEER to help. The following committees need you: Set-up on Friday; Silent Auction; Live Auction; Boutique; Brunch Setup; Take Down on Saturday. We need lots of help the day of the auction!

To ask a question or to volunteer, contact Co-Chair, Barb Vietti, 303-979-7561, [email protected] or Barb Stover 303-797-2475, [email protected].

Thanks!

Remember….our success depends upon all of us working together!

Membership Dues @ $45.00 _______________ Senior Dues @ $40.00 ____________________ Sustainer Dues @ $100____________________ ($55 tax deductible) (pending bylaws approval) Dear Sisters, There is good news again this year! Our dues remain the same as they have for the last several years. One reason for this is our huge success with the Sweet Charity Brunch. Your support of the Brunch/Auction al-lowed us to contribute more to our local and National philanthropies last year than ever before….well over $8000. So, as soon as you receive this letter, come on get out your checkbook and send in your dues. We are adding a new category for members (pending approval of bylaws change) called Sustainers. This is for members who do not attend and do not participate in the fundraiser but want to be counted in our philanthro-py donations and other good works we do. Let’s all work to make this a year full of great memories for AXiD! PLEASE fill out the attached form and enclose it along with your check made out to AXiD, to me at the ad-dress listed below.
