COURSE WORK The following courses have equipped me with the skills necessary to succeed in the public relations and/or marketing field. PUBLIC RELATIONS CURRICULUM NEWSPAPER FUNDAMENTALS JRNL 1100 This course has a strong emphasis on the Associated Press Stylebook, word selection in newspaper writing and spelling. NEWSWRITING JRNL 2210 Introduction to newswriting techniques, with emphasis on learning news values, recognizing parts of a story and writing stories that meet standards of accuracy, grammar, style, spelling, law and ethics. REPORTING JRNL 2310 Traditional and electronic methods of gathering news; the writing of clear, accurate and meaningful news stories and codes of ethical journalistic behavior. Course work includes coverage of speeches and meetings outside of class. PHOTOJOURNALISM JRNL 3410 – Uses techniques and processes of digital photography for the newspaper, magazine and webbased industries. Operations of digital SLRs and Photoshop techniques for a variety of assignments are addressed. VISUAL COMMUNICATION COMM 3350 Visual literacy, cognition, aesthetics, critical evaluation, and technology in communication, with emphasis on impact of visual media in informative, interpretive and persuasive communication. FOUNDATIONS OF PUBLIC RELATIONS PRCM 3040 Overview of public relations looking at communication skills and technologies necessary for successful public relations. CASE STUDIES & ETHICS IN PUBLIC RELATIONS PRCM 3050 Investigation and analysis of public relations problems through case studies. STYLE & DESIGN IN PUBLIC RELATIONS MESSAGES PRCM 4020 Introduction to the use of style and design in public relations messages. This course introduces students to the Adobe Design Suite, HTML code and various other social media and technology platforms. The students create a digital resume and portfolio as their final project. WRITING FOR PUBLIC RELATIONS PRCM 4080 Basic research principles and survey research as it is used by mass media and public relations. The course requires students to apply the basic principles by working with a community partner to create a media kit. SURVEY RESEARCH METHODS PRCM 4510 Basic research principles and survey research as it is used by mass media and public relations. PUBLIC RELATIONS CAMPAIGNS PRCM 4090 – Capstone course designed to apply Public Relations and Communication principles to a campaign situation. Students work to develop fully functional campaigns for an assigned community partner.

MARKETING  CURRICULUM    PRINCIPLES  OF  MARKETING  -­‐  MKTG  3310  -­‐  Study  of  functions,  institutions  and  basic  problems  in  marketing  of  goods  and  services  in  a  global  economy.    CONSUMER  BEHAVIOR  -­‐  MKTG  3410  –  Analysis  of  the  buying  process  as  it  is  effected  by  environmental  and  institutional  forces.      PROMOTION  STRATEGY  -­‐  MKTG  4320  –  Examination  of  promotional  objectives,  strategy  and  tactics  in  marketing.      RETAIL  MANAGEMENT  -­‐  MKTG  4330  –  Principles  of  retail  operation:  facility  location,  layout,  purchasing,  pricing  and  merchandise  control.    PERSONAL  SELLING  -­‐  MKTG  4390  –  Selling  strategy  as  an  interdisciplinary  business  activity.      INTERNATIONAL  MARKETING  -­‐  MKTG  4400  –  Strategy,  policy  and  the  variables  affecting  international  marketing  decisions.  Students  work  in  groups  to  create  a  functioning  marketing  research,  promotion  and  distribution  plan  for  a  product  or  service  in  a  foreign  country.
