    Sir

It is to bring to your notice that the

students stick to television sets during the

summer break. They spend their time in

watching cartoon network and serials. I

want to request you to telecast interesting

    educational programmes to educate the

students. We need to make tremendous

efforts to produce good citizens who have

civic sense. I want that you should apprise

the children of the traffic rules, humility,

    fundamental duties and rights, their

    responsibilities towards the nation and

environment conservation. Theseprogrammes will assist the teaching

community in making the children law

    abiding citizens.

    4. SAY NO TO PLASTIC BAGS

Plastic bags pollute our environment. People

should be aware of the fact that plastic bags are

made of harmful chemicals. They contaminate the

eatables carried in it. Moreover, plastic bags are

non-biodegradable. It means they cannot be

recycled. Obviously they will block the drainage

system when thrown away carelessly on the roads

or in the streets. And if the drainage system is

chocked, pollution will spread. It can become the

cause of an epidemic too. The life of plastic bags is

beyond imagination. Hence, they become a

perennial source of pollution. People should take

pledge not to use them. They can use cloth and jute

bags in place of plastic bags. Some state

governments have banned their use. Now, it is theduty of the common masses to cooperate with the

    government.

Next morning, the race began. A winning post was

The tortoise was left behind. Meanwhile the hare,

his journey. He went on slowly but steadily. On the

way, he saw the hare sleeping soundly. He didnt

Today I saw a film Malamal Weekly. The lead

roles were played by veteran actors like Paresh

Rawal, Om Puri, Asrani etc. It is a humorous

film. It starts with the result of a lottery and later

it shows a real picture of attraction for money of

the poor folk. Though the theme is serious but

the presentation is so humorous that one cant

keep silence any way. The visitors kept on

    2. A CRICKET MATCH

Cricket is the most popular game in India. The

Indian cricket team has beaten all the world

famous teams. Yesterday I got an opportunity to

witness a cricket match played between India and

Pakistan in Feroze Shah Kotla Stadium. The

match started with the spin of the coin at 9:30

a.m. The players took position on the field which

was beautifully decorated with bunting. A score

board was also placed near the stadium. At the

very first ball a fine batsman of the Indian team

was out. The second player was caught at 39

runs. The next batsman had to cut a sorry figure.

He was clean bowled at the score of 42 runs. The

Indian team was all out by lunch for 115 runs.

The opening batsman of the Pakistan team came

to crease. He faced the ball and hit right and left

and scored forty runs before he was bowled out.

Later on the score was raised to 116 for 8

wickets. Pakistan won the match. Friends and

admirers of this team rushed on the ground to

congratulate its captain. It was really an exciting

    4. Good morning everybody!

It is rightly said that speaking is an art. A wise

person thinks before he speaks. An experienced

and intelligent person never expresses his/her

opinions without taking into consideration the

results of the speech. No one can deny the fact

that great men keep their eyes and ears open andrestrain their tongue. They speak only when

silence can damage their interest. A remark can

change the destiny of a person.

Speech has various aspects. The most important

aspect is the way of speaking. One cannot go on

speaking on the same tone. This practice makes

his/ her speech boring and nobody will listen to

his/ her speech . Moreover, giving pause at the

right place is of utmost importance. Wrong

pause/ expression may change the meaning of

the expression. At last, I would like to say that

the art of speaking should be developed right

    from childhood.

    2. SWAMI DAYANAND SARASWATI

Swami Dayanand Saraswati was born on 12th

February 1824. The boy was named

Moolshankar. His fathers name was Karsanji

Trivedi. He was a tehsildar. Two incidents

forced Moolshankar to renounce the world.

When his sister, whom he loved dearly, died

after a brief illness in 1840, the boy was

shattered. Three years later, in 1843, before

he could even begin to recover from the loss of

his sister, he suffered another shock when his

beloved uncle also died. Questions about life

and death, about the transitory nature of all

human ambitions, began to hunt the youngboy. Moolshankar lost his interest in home

and surroundings and left home quietly in

1846. He was then 22. One day he met saint

Poornanand. It was this elderly ascetic and

scholar who initiated him into the ascetic

    4. ADVANTAGES OF READING NEWSPAPERS

A newspaper in this modern society has great

social and educative value. It is a common

media of giving news along with views. We

cannot live without it. It is the basic need of

the common people. By reading newspapers we

come to know what is happening around us.

Nobody wants to live in ignorance. Hence,

    reading newspapers becomes essential. They

are a link between the common people and the

    government.

Newspapers have literary importance too. The

learned persons contribute their articles to

enlighten and broaden the outlook of the

educated people. They encourage the people to

oppose the social evils like female foeticide,

dowry, etc. The unemployed young men and

women come to know of various job

    opportunities through newspapers. The

teenagers can improve their vocabulary by

reading newspapers. Thus, the advantages of

    reading newspapers are many.

    7. It was a hot summer day. A thirsty bee flew

here and there to quench its thirst. Finally it

came to a canal. By chance it fell into it while

trying to drink water. The waves of the canal

were strong and they washed the bee far away.

The bee tried hard to reach the shore but in

vain. A dove f lew past. It looked the

tremendous efforts of the bee to come out ofthe canal. The dove took pity on the bee and

dropped a big leaf into the water. The bee

looked at the dove and climbed on the leaf. It

waited there for some time and the moment

its wings became dry it flew away. A few days

later a hunter came to the forest. He aimed at

the dove. The bee noticed it and found that thedove helped it in the trying circumstances. It

also intended to help the dove. The bee

attacked the hunter and stung him. The hunter

could not shoot the dove. The bee saved the

doves life. One good act of the dove became a

boon to it. She thanked the bee for saving her

    competition on Importance of Plantation.

I participated in this debate and won the first

prize. Man has thoughtlessly cut down forests for

his need. This has imbalanced the environment.

Hence, it is the need of the hour to highlight

the importance of plantation. We should grow

more and more trees in order to keep our

environment healthy. Greenery should be spread

    everywhere.

    5. Sachin Tendulkar is a great name in the

history of cricket. He was born on 24th April,

1973 in Mumbai. He was groomed by famous

cricket guru Ramakant Achrekar. His test

debut was like a baptism with fire when he

played his first series against Pakistan in 1989.

He took time to make his mark and reached

his peak during 1994 to 1999. Everybody has

some lacuna and Sachin is also a human being.

He has never been a successful captain. But

almost all batting records are in his name andhe is still counting. He had been a part of the

2011 World Cup Cricket winning Indian Team.

He has made total 18,000 runs in ODIs. He is

    really a great cricketer.

extremely hot. The scorching heat was

intolerable and aggravating the problem. The

crow flew here and there in search of water.

But he could not f ind water anywhere.

Eventually, he reached a garden. There he saw

a jug. He felt delighted. He perched on the

brim of the jug and peeped into it. There was

little water in it. However, he tried to drink it

but in vain. His beak could not touch the

surface of the water. He became sad but he did

not get disheartened. He had a plan. Some

pebbles were lying near the jug. He picked

them up one by one and dropped them into the

jug. The level of the water rose up. He

It is often said that a healthy mind lives in healthy

body. Creativity and productivity can be enhanced

by making the pupils healthy. They must not suffer

from any chronic and fatal disease. The studentscan actively take part in all the activities if they

have no ailment. It is possible only when they play

daily. Physical fitness makes the human beings

active, energetic, enthusiastic and decisive. They

become alert and accomplish all assignments.

Those who are unhealthy cannot enjoy life. They

seem lazy, disheartened and dejected. They lose

the battle of life. All work and no play make Jack

a dull boy is a popularly known saying. Team

games gives us lessons in coordination. Sports

persons become disciplined and supportive. Man is

a social animal. He should adept to the new

situations. A sportsman learns to adjust himself in

the team. Victory and defeat must not be givenimportance. The most important is to learn team

work and persistent efforts to grow. It is rightly

said that there is always a scope for improvement.

Games hone our life skills. The most unfortunate

thing is that parents do not allow children to play.

They are forced to study round the clock. These

children develop a sick mentality. They become the

victim of complex. Games refresh players and instil

a sense of responsibility in the sportspersons.

Gautam Buddha was born around 566 BC to

Mahamaya and Suddodana, King of Kapilavastu.

His childhood name was Siddhartha. When he

was sixteen his father got him married to

Yasodhara. He came across three things thatchanged his life forever. He saw an old man, a

sick man and a dead body. He was 29 when he

renounced the world. His teaching involved four

basic principles: The world is full of suffering and

misery. Desire is the main reason of suffering.

Suffering can be removed by removing desire.

Desire can be overcome by following the Eight

    Fold Path.

    4. THE LION AND THE MOUSE

Once a lion was enjoying a sound sleep at the

entrance of his den. A mouse came out of its hole

in the rock and, seeing the lion, got on his body. The lion awoke and caught the mouse in his paw

and snubbed the mouse. He said How dare you

disturbed my peace of mind? Do you want that I

should put an end to your life? The mouse got

frightened and felt sorry. He requested the lion to

forgive him. The lion sympathised with him and

forgave him. The mouse thanked him and

returned to his hole. A few days later the same lion

was entrapped by a hunter. He was caught in a net.

He tried his best to free himself but all in vain. The

net was too strong to break. The lion roared loudly.

The mouse heard his loud roar. He came to the spot

and decided to help the lion. He started cutting one

cord after another till the lion was free. The lionthanked the mouse for his act of kindness.

Subject : Visit to a zoo.

    Dear Pradeep

Last week I along with my classmates went

to see the zoo at Mysore. Our class teacher

was with us. As we entered the compound of

the zoo, we saw a small house surrounded

by a wire net. Inside it, we saw a number of

snakes of all sizes and colours. The pythons

seemed to be two-three quintals heavy.

Then we saw a tank full of all kinds of

coloured fish. They were leaping about and

swimming beautifully in the clear water of

the tank. We saw many kinds of birds too.

The ostrich was as large as the camel. The

peacocks presented a beautiful scene. They

were dancing merrily. Then we saw the

deer and rhinoceros. The big rhinoceros was

    surrounded by the iron bars.

I enjoyed the visit very much. I had a

wonderful experience in the company of

    animals.

    Yours affectionately

    7. A farmer had three sons. They never heed the

advice of their father. They had peevish nature.

They often quarrelled among themselves. The

farmer advised them time and again to check their

irresponsible behaviour. He intended that theyshould not quarrel with one another. His words

failed. He asked his sons to bring a bundle of sticks.

They followed him and came to him with a bundle

of sticks. All of them were asked to break those

sticks tied in a bundle. The sons tried their level

best but could not break the bundle. All failed. Then

the farmer united the bundle and asked his sons to

break the sticks. All of them broke the sticks

easily. The farmer taught them a lesson that if

they lived united, misfortunes would not befall

them. If they quarrelled, they would suffer. These

words of the farmer worked magically. His
