The Maricopa County Community College District sponsors annual competitions
in Creative Writing, Dance/Choreography, Music, Visual Art, and Theatre.
This year, we added Film and Media Arts and next year, we will be adding
Fashion Design. The competitions in visual art and creative writing are also
sponsored nationally by the League for Innovation in the Community College,
and winners of the Maricopa competitions are automatically entered into these

FASHION DESIGN EXHIBITNext year we will be introducing a new category, Fashion Design, and this year, as a preview, we have two outstanding examples of work from the Fashion Design Program at Mesa Community College.
COSTUMING | Melissa Scimio, “Oriental Fantasy”, Mesa Community CollegeThis Belly Dance Costume, hand-made from burgundy polyester stretch satin with applied petal detail has beaded lace appliques with hand-sewn crystals. There are over 2000 hand-applied crystals throughout this original costume.
GOWN | Jessica Kelley, “Black Maya”, Mesa Community CollegeThis futuristic space age inspired gown is made of Poly Spandex blend with “dirty metal” chain embellishments. Satyr Comma jewelry transforms the 2 dimensional fabric of this hand made piece into a 3 dimensional original artistic fashion design.
