ARCTIC MONKEYSThis picture is of an unprepared action shot. It creates a nonchalant laid back feel that reflects the image the bands portray themselves as. This is supported by the sunglasses that the majority of the band wears. Stereotypically this look would signify a celebrity who wanted to hide from publicity however on the band it look more laid back and as if they have a ‘just don’t care’, cool and collected attitude. The band wears dark or black clothing not to make a statement and look simple. Their serious facial expressions however help to reflect their music style as their music is cool and laid band but at the same time partial to a rock theme. The photography used a vintage covering which reflects the bands relevance and style with the vintage hair do’s etc.

FLORENCE & THE MACHINEThis image uses a black and white effect which portrays an emotional side to the artist’s music. The image is a capture of a live performance . Hey strong body language takes up the image this uses the rule of thirds as all of the frame is used, her facial expression shows her eyes closed and her mouth open mid song, this shows how she is in the moment and reflects her as an emotional singer. The smoke in made from the lights in the background signifies her music as moving and deep, therefore this is the artists conscious decision to portray herself and her music genre this way.

KANYE-WESTThe black and white image with use of the colour gold on the glasses and cigar suggest a gangster theme to the image and therefore reflects Kanye west as a lawless and rebellious, nonchalant character. The contrastingly vibrant white suit and chains around neck and his unbuttoned shirt suggests wealth and expensive taste. The profile image shows the artists looking up rather than at the audience with suggests he is disinterested. The way the image has no symmetry shows chaos and disruptiveness.

MILEY CYRUSThe Spikes displayed directly towards the audience in this profile picture suggest a brutality or

rebelliousness. This links with the artists history of transforming from child star to a disruptive or careless woman. This suggests the image s purpose is to acknowledge this transformation. The use of messy hair and flawless skin acts as a binary contrast between good, polished girl and the wild

character she portrays as an artist. Black and white images can sometimes suggest purity however I believe the use of black and white on this image portrays a blunt fearlessness, this combined with

the over the shoulder scowl shows the artists in portraying herself as uninterested and independent. The rule of thirds on this image also shows the right side of the frame to have a

lightness, shining upon her face, that the left side is neglected from as the artist is a barrier to this light. This good the image a good vs. evil enigma and shows attitude.

MUMFORD & SONSThe image shows the band in a Traditional family picture pose you would see of a country family from the 30’s. The use of the instruments as props signify the music genre and their placement or roles in the band. Therefore the photo gives identity. The bright colours and the use of an old Polaroid effect show the band as lively and humourous but also portraying their idea of a twist on a traditional folk genre.
