To an engineer, good enough means perfect. With an artist, there's no such thing as perfect.

On the following pages I’ll be presenting posters that advertise an exhibit on (Alexander Calder) at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. The exhibit will focus on (Simple is the Best).

Brief Biography

Early Life: Alexander “Sandy” Calder was born in

1898 in Lawnton, Pennsylvania. His actual birthday,

however, remains a source of much confusion.

According to Calder’s mother, Nanette (née

Lederer), Calder was born on August 22, yet his

birth certificate at Philadelphia City Hall, based

on a hand-written ledger, stated July 22. When

Calder’s family learned about the birth certificate,

they reasserted with certainty that city officials had

made a mistake.

For the collage I just really wanted to combine all his work on his other posters. I did a lovely border and a middle ground for it.

To an engineer, good enough means perfect. With an artist, there's no such thing as perfect.

For the typography I pick his favorite thing to draw. He likes to draw shapes and I thought chapes would work okay.

For the photography I pick something that he is well known artwork and use that as the background.

When visually communicating an idea it’s important to (see all the information.

What did you learn about the design process from this project?

To have everything in the right spot.

Is it easier for you to come up with ideas or to create beautiful final images? Explain.

It was easier to creat beautiful final image. For some ideas are easy to come to you and some don’t.

What did you learn about paying attention to details from this project?

It’s very important any detail that is off could distract the audience or it could make it so no one looks at your project.

What was the most important thing you feel you learned about design from this project?

Designing takes a lot of time and planning. And to keep using the design principles. It applies to all projects.

It was easier to creat beautiful final image. For some ideas are easy to come to you and some don’t.
