President’s Letter by Alex Csank, Ste. Anne-de-Bellevue
Alfisti,
It’s taking a long while for all the snow to melt in
Eastern Canada this year. And, while that might
be fun for those who ski and indulge in other snow
sports, it delays most of us from retrieving our
Alfas and getting them back on the road. However,
there is some good news; this summer, for the first
time in 20 years, new production Alfas will be
sharing the roads with all the old-timers! Yes, I
know there was the wonderful 8C from 2008, but
that was strictly a very limited production (and
expensive) exotic which was not sold through
official Alfa Romeo Dealerships … like the 4C.
And recently, the announcements have been made
about some exciting new upcoming products,
including a sedan, likely to be called the ‘Giulia’
and possibly even a SUV or ‘Crossover’ vehicle (I
still don’t know what to think of that idea).
If you have visited, you will have seen that the
ARCC website has been well updated and is now
functional and up-to-date, with a fresh, new look.
Many thanks to John Pickering and all of his work
from ‘behind the curtain’!
By next month, our driving season activities begin
in earnest across the country. Montreal and
Ottawa club members will be meeting up for a
lunch in Vankleek Hill, with separate tours
organized by each club putting them at the same
place, and at the same time even! ARCC Toronto
will be getting their Cruise Nights up and
running, and the Calgary and Edmonton clubs
each have their own events planned. Wherever you
live, I encourage you to get into your car and take
advantage of the coming spring to join up with
other Alfisti, rev up that Italian motor and blow
that winter sleep dust off your Alfa … it will be
fun!
Please keep sending me your feedback, and also
your photos, articles and ideas for the newsletter.
George Beston is always looking for your input for
upcoming editions.
Paris Retromobile 2015 by Frank Salemi, Fallston Md.
We vacationed in Paris this February. Wow! We
enjoyed nice people, great food and a beautiful
city. A visit to Retromobile 2015 was a must-do
part of our vacation.
Here, we have arrived at the Expo Centre at
Porte de Versailles to visit this car show and sale
of classic cars, model cars, auto parts.
The Expo Centre is really large with rows and
rows of eye candy. Note to self: Parisian men do
not wear baseball caps!
Yes, they sell Alfa Romeo parts. Here’s a pre-war
radiator that will make somebody happy.
This is just one of the many displays of vendor
wares. And yes, there are more Alfa parts here.
A feature of this year’s Retromobile was an
exhibition of Corrado Lopresto’s collection
featuring prototype and one-off cars with unique
coachwork. Mr. Lopresto is a Milanese Architect
and property developer who has spent his life
tracking down and collecting prototypes and cars
with unique coachwork. There were a dozen cars
from his award winning collection at this year’s
Retromobile. Here is a picture of him having
lunch during my visit.
There were two standout Alfas in the display, the
first was this Spider:
The second was this one-off Bertone 6C 2500:
Many European and American Marque clubs had
stands at Retro ’15. The Alfa Romeo Club of
France had a GTV and GTAm on display. The
largest club presence there was the Mustang club
of France which was celebrating 50 years of
Mustang production.
This was the GTAm displayed by the Alfa Classic
Club of France.
There were many toy cars there, from old tin to
current die cast models. Here’s a really nice
Giulietta SZ model.
This is a Boneschi
Bodied Alfa Romeo,
something we rarely
see in North
America. It’s a very
attractive Cabriolet.
I find it better looking than the Pininfarina 6C
2500’s. This example was being offered for sale.
Also available for purchase was this historically
significant Giulietta SZ Coda Tronca which has a
stellar race history.
CARM Nouvelles by Alex Csank, Ste. Anne-de-Bellevue
mai.
