Designed for businesses with 30 or more employees, the program is called the Sustainability Circle, and will involve ten selected businesses or institutions that will send representatives for six monthly sessions covering a range of subjects designed to reduce costs and reduce usage of valuable resources. The wide ranging sessions cover topics such as lighting, HVAC, and water to procurement, branding, metrics, and utility programs and incentives. The intent is to work with each business to create a customized five-year action plan that makes the business case for investment in short and long-term initiatives. Participants will receive hands-on help from coaches to develop this plan. In addition to full-day group work sessions, participants gain valuable advice during individual meetings with True Market Solutions coaches and on-site walk-throughs. The outcome of the program is a customized 5-year Sustainability Action Plan that makes the business case for investment in short and long- term initiatives. PG&E is paying half of the $7,500 fee for each participant in this program. Well I’m here to tell you we are
a group of people that volunteer
our time to help orchestrate lots of
activities within our wonderful city of
Petaluma. We all live and work in our
community; we are business owners,
entrepreneurs, employees, moms,
dads, and PTA members, just normal
everyday people who are passionate
about Petaluma and the success of
our local businesses and employers.
The Petaluma Chamber of
Commerce is a great resource for
businesses. Owning a business here
in this town it’s a must to join the
Chamber. They have a directory that
is updated annually that lists your
business and contact information.
The Chamber gives you a platform
to host Business After Hours
which is a great way to bring other
Chamber members and guests into
your business in a fun and relaxed
atmosphere. You will see many of

President’s Message
2015 Forecast LooksGood for Petaluma

Last month the Sonoma County Economic Development Board released the economic forecast for the Sonoma County economy. The report was prepared by Moody’s, one of the most respected economic analysts in the nation.
For those of us doing business in Sonoma County, the news is good, and our recovery from the economic downturn should continue into 2015. Some of the highlights from the report:
• Sonoma County’s economic growth has slowed this year, but it is still keeping pace with the U.S. average. The unemployment rate has hovered around an enviable 5.4%, and the rate of job growth exceeds its average of the past 15 years.
• Homebuilding is accelerating, although the number of new permits issued for construction is still about half its long-term pace during the 15 years before the housing market downturn in 2006.
• The potential to attract high-tech industries creates some upside potential. Among notable companies, Agilent’s electronic measurement division was spun off as Keysight Technologies and is benefiting from increased investment by broadband communications firms.
• Sonoma County is expected to emerge next year even stronger. Improved regional and U.S. income gains will support tourism and the wine industry. Near-term growth will be augmented by business services, construction and healthcare, while the tech sector stabilizes and creates upside potential for the outlook.

Without questions, problems remain. Here in Petaluma, we still have about a fifth of our office space still empty, but there is a high level of optimism that the resurgence of the high-tech industries will help fill in those empty spaces.
For the Chamber, through our Economic Development Committee, we will be working with the city to see how we can facilitate absorption of new businesses into our community, and to help those businesses make the transition as effortless as possible.
Through our Government Affairs Committee, we will continue to monitor the rules and regulations enacted by regulators to determine that no unnecessary roadblocks are placed in the way of this continuing recovery.
Most of all, we look forward to welcoming these emerging new businesses to our community, and to place our services and good will at their disposal.

Representatives of the city’s service clubs joined together for a presentation to the Leadership Petaluma class last month on non-profits day.
The group, which has formed the Petaluma Service Alliance Committee, detailed a long list of activities by the various clubs Terry Bryant represented Petaluma Valley Rotary and lead grad Jackie Taylor represented Petaluma Rotary and the Petaluma Service Alliance. Representing Petaluma Sunrise Rotary was Dave Hanson, and Michael Carauna, sitting President for Petaluma Rotary, both spoke of the importance of giving back to the community.
Representing 7-11 Lions Club was Jodie Gallagher, and Thom Knudson represented Petaluma Host Lions.
Marilyn Bartow spoke for ELKS Lodge 901 and Jim Fitzgerald was Petaluma Kiwanis Club’s representative.
The Service Clubs were offered a great opportunity to showcase their Clubs to the broader Community and to do some much deserved bragging and promoting!

7:30 – 8:30 p.m., at the monthly meeting of the Petaluma Arts Association, meet the new president, collage artist, Elaine Larson.
In 2014, her work was on view at the Loft Gallery, O’Hanlon Center for the Arts, Mill Valley. She creates visually exciting collages from created and found imagery. She allows intuition to take over during the creative process. She wrote, “Creation and manipulation of images is how I express what I came in knowing, which has no words.”
Elaine Larson had a previous career
in information technology, with art as an avocation until 2008, when she retired and became a full -time artist. Elaine delights in sharing with others her passion for collage. She offers private lessons and teaches at the O’Hanlon Center. Elaine states, “I delight in diversity and the infinite complexity of our quantum, holographic, love – based universe.”
The PAA meetings are held the first Tuesday of each month in the Community Room at the United Church of Christ, 825 Middlefield Road, Petaluma. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. for visiting and set up.
