Dear Colleague:

Welcome to Empower 2014! I am delighted that you have come to participate in the activities and opportunities offered by the Laserfiche community.

More than 2,000 of us are gathered here to explore the frontiers and push the boundaries of information management. We are living in a unique time in history. As change agents, we are charged with the responsibility to demonstrate leadership within our organizations. This is the place to hone our technological edge and reaffirm our commitment to excellence.

Whether you’re here to learn about new Laserfiche products or to expand your knowledge on best practices in designing business processes, implementing e-forms or improving your approach to project management, Empower 2014 offers a wide range of learning and networking opportunities, including many hands-on labs, lunch Q&A sessions, user group meetings and more.

In Celebration

Many of you may be aware that Tom Wayman passed away last May. Tom joined Laserfiche in 1991 as a programmer and was promoted to systems engineer before moving to the marketing department and serving as vice president of marketing and product strategy.

Tom’s passion for helping organizations use the Laserfiche Run Smarter® philosophy drove him to continuously push for bigger and better things from the company and to maintain excellence in product development, marketing,

sales and customer support. The consummate customer champion, Tom encouraged us to keep the community’s needs front and center at all times. His vision, energy and talent inspired us all to reach new heights.

To honor Tom’s memory, and in recognition of his many contributions to the Laserfiche community, we are introducing a new Run Smarter® Award: The Tom Wayman Leadership Award. This award will be presented to an individual within the Laserfiche community who exemplifies extraordinary leadership, vision and commitment to sharing the Run Smarter® philosophy.

Please join us for the Run Smarter® Awards ceremony during the general session on Thursday morning to celebrate the achievements of the first annual recipient of the Tom Wayman Leadership Award.

At Empower 2014, the labs will be using a virtual machine that simulates the environment of the Laser Investigators, a fictitious private investigation firm using Laserfiche to operate more efficiently. Labs will provide 50-80 laptops for attendees, and registering for a lab guarantees your use of one of the provided laptops.

In addition to the provided laptops, there will be seating for 20-25 more students running the virtual machines themselves. If you were unable to register for a lab, or if you prefer to use your own computer, you may install the lab VM on your own laptop.

This virtual machine runs Windows Server 2008 R2, and requires the following minimum hardware in order to run:

` 64-bit OS for the host (laptop) machine (Windows 8, 7, Vista) ` VMWare Player 6 ` Dual core or higher CPU ` 4 GB of RAM, more recommended ` 50 GB hard drive space

If you can manage to go a day early or stay an extra day, do it! Disneyland is walking distance from the conference hotel and I spent a day and a half at Disneyland last year before the conference and had a blast!

I really liked the way the courses at Empower were set up; for example, I didn’t realize how in-depth they would be in sharing other companies’ stories. It was comforting to learn how other companies experienced their implementations as Circor was getting ready for its own.

The University of Ha’il in Saudi Arabia uses Laserfiche Rio across the university. It is currently used primarily on the back end of the incoming/outgoing system, although executives use Laserfiche Mobile and Laserfiche PhotoDocs to enable on-the-go access to important documents.

Laserfiche Mobile is used to preview and approve documents, allowing people to stay connected with the constant flow of information when they are attending off-site meetings.

Laserfiche is integrated with Tallyman, designed by Experian for money collection, and Summit, Acenden’s Back Office Business Software.

The African Export-Import Bank implemented Laserfiche Rio to create a standard document structure and records management system throughout the bank network, including its headquarters in Cairo and branches in Nigeria and Zimbabwe. After an extensive training program for the bank’s 120 end users led by reseller BMB, the bank has started digitizing a backlog of 500,000 historical records.

In just one year, the bank has seen a 60% return on investment and expects the ROI to grow as it implements Laserfiche Forms and creates a disaster recovery center in its Nigeria branch.

Washington Student Achievement Council (WSAC) currently uses Laserfiche Rio to manage more than 100,000 accounts, helping families all over Washington state save for college. The agency maintains its own records center in Laserfiche, which includes finance records and customer service call-center correspondence. It scans and indexes more than 2,000 pieces of paper a month.

WSAC uses Laserfiche Workflow to automate and standardize the application process. It uses Laserfiche Quick Fields to automatically scan, process and file applications for student aid. Using Laserfiche RME, WSAC has adopted transparent records management around financial aid applications. This has increased document security, improved customer service in the call center and saved WSAC many hours of staff time on filing and archiving records.

Six departments and more than 130 people use Laserfiche daily. The company has integrated Laserfiche with its Zetafax server and Girard Access system for document viewing and retrieval. Future plans include integrations with Laser App, DocuSign and Redtail.

The NorthStar Financial Services Group replaced IBM FileNet with Laserfiche Rio. Laserfiche is the backbone of the company’s document management and workflow organization-wide. Although NorthStar has had Laserfiche for less than a year, the group has already automated multiple business processes including: CLS New Account Onboarding, Orion Advisor Services New Agreements and Legal Requests.

Laserfiche Quick Fields is used to capture more than 90 fields of data from the CLS Investor Profile, eliminating the need to manually key the data. NorthStar is also planning the implementation of Laserfiche RME for contracts and documents that have retention requirements under SEC and FINRA. Implementing Laserfiche at NorthStar has eliminated double entry of new account data into two systems and resulted in 40% improvement in employees’ time to focus on getting assets in the door.

T Bank implemented Laserfiche Rio just this year to automate processes such as AP processing, HR onboarding, loan processing, wire transfers, auditing submission and more. While all business processes are being mapped as needed, the initial emphasis was on audits.

In the future, the bank plans to expand Laserfiche to departments like Trust and Fraud Services; integrate with BancTel and BancPac; and use Laserfiche WebLink to improve document sharing with third parties.
