Why ? Usage of Static meters data storage
capability for utility needs/ Challenges. Many makes of meters in use – Different
methods of data storage and data transfer. Meter vendor Software deals with same
information in different formats. Different S/W needs parallel processes and
leads to duplication of work. Meter Vendor S/W cant be customized and
utility needs are dynamic. Protect investments through common IT
infrastructure.

Interoperability
Improved accuracy of billing and better Revenue Cycle Management.
Automatic data analysis and theft detection for loss reduction.
Simplify complex processes of billing and data analysis process through complete automation.
Flexibility to add new version of meters or new make of meters.
Advantages
NDPL Experience NDPL has AMR enabled meter base of 25000
meters of three different meter makes. Common S/W for data collection, processing
and analysis developed jointly by NDPL and CMC.
This S/W uses APIs for reading and data conversion of different meters into common data format.
Automatic data analysis through system as per schedules.
Selective data collection from meters is not possible.
APIs cant be used to limited programming of meters.
Standards for performance and testing of API are not available.
Trouble shooting / improving performance of API always necessitates support from meter supplier.
Limitations
Conclusion
In war, there is no substitute for victory.
A weapon in war is a wish to destroy, not a weapon itself.
