R-B's goodThe 1973 edition of Ringling-Bar-

num'a Red Unit is a big and dazzling af-fair. It should please everyone who seesit.

The program really features GuntherGebel-ulilliams, who is seen in at leastthree numbers. In the finale he rides anslephant with a tiger, around the track, for a really big round of applause. Heis truly the first circus star developedby this show in many years.

Something a little different is of-fered in the second half, when Pio Nockwalks the highwira across an arena fullof lions. It's a dual presentation forWolfgang Holzmair works his 17 lions atthe same time. Reminds you of the olddays when this sort of thing was a verypopular number*

There's an alley of 30 clowns onthe show, with Frosty Little listed asproducing clown. Incidentally, he some-times helps out as assistant program dir-ector. Guess the only recognizable namesamong the clowns are Lou Jacobs and Bob-by Kaye, although there's one clown thatis out there most of the time and ispretty good*

They have some nice specs this yearand the big one is called "The Circus".It features some of the spectators, aschildren are selected to ride the carou-sel in each end ring. § w< Simic

with AffectionSome 135 relatives and friends honor-

ed Art and Rose Heller with a party fortheir 50th wedding anniversary on Feb. 23at Sheboygan, wise. The couple are well-known circus people who traveled with theSeils-Sterling-Lindemann Circus from 1921to 1938. Art was a musician, while Rosewas an aerialist.

Their daughter, Betty, who also wasin the circus, composed a special poemfor the occassion. Her husband, NorbertOrth, served as toastmaster and also sangtwo appropriate songs.

Making ie PointAs a follow circus fan I'c1 like to set

the record straight about that "GrratNew Act" described in the Dec. 18, 1972issua of Circus Report. That act, presen-ted by Freddy Knie, Jr. is ev-iry bit :assensational as you say. But it's not enew act.

Last year nt the 5th InternationalCircus Congress a special ovation UMS gi-ven Freddy Knie, Sr. for presenting thisact. He thanked everyone, then said th«tthe act had been first presented yearsago on tho Circus Strassburger, in Ger-many. In fact he introduced Ell 5trnS3-burger and said ths applause should bedirected to her family.

None of this spoils the wonderful actthat Freddy, Jr. is presenting. He is anamazino performer, who apparently can doanything. He always has a new and sensa-tional act for the circus.

The Knies are wonderful perfectionistsas performers and they have about thebest show in the world. The modest FreddySr. simply wanted to get the factsstraight and give credit where due. Hehas originated enough sensational actson his own to deserve the ovation h^ got.

BookA new book has been written about uim.

F. Coay by John Burke. The volume is tit-led simply "Buffalo Bill" and was publish-ed by Putman. It sells for $7.95.

The author says his book may look likean attempt to cut Cody down, but that'snot the c*se. He offers some of the factsabout the famous man, facts that don'tagree with the stories reported about him.

People liked Cody, says Burke, and hewas a generous man. As a result he letmillions of dollars flow through his hands
