J.H. Owlettes Provide Exciting Year A steady stream of talented

players for the future Owlettes seem evident from the season perform~mces posted by the Seventh and Eighth Grade Owlettes. Coached by Jeri Been, the Seventh Grade squad posted an impressive record of 15-1 while the Eighth Grade Owlettes enjoyed a good season of 7-9.

The first year Owlettes took the district title forthe hard court action with a loop mark of 9" 1. Their only district loss was to Highland Park 21·16.

On their way to the lfr1)ressive record, Been's OwleHes also added to the trophy cases with championship banners they had received at the New Deal and Idalou tournaments. The

Halfway Baptist Church Slates Vigilante Revival

'fhe Halfway First Baptist . , Church is hosting a Vigilante

Revival and Youth Rally March 25-29. Bueky Smlthen of Vigilante Ministries in the Rocky Mountains of Montana will preaching at the worship services. Smithen participates in the circuit riding ministries. MattCoxwillbeleading themusic. TheSmlthFamilyBand of Halfway will also be providing special music.

On Saturday, March 28, there will be a pizza supper for children 1-6th grade prior to the evening revival service. The Saturday 7:00 pm service will include area youth as they make the revival service their March area wide youth rally. There will be a fellowship for the youth after the service.

The'tevlval will conclude with a devotional service at 4 :00 p.m. Sunday.

There will be evening services Wednesday through Saturday at 7:00p.m. Therevivalwillcontinue (( in the March 29 Sunday morning service with a pot luck lunch at the church following the worship service.

Jeanan Courtney Memorials services for Jeanan

Courtney of Santa Cruz, Calif. were held In the Hale Center Church of Christ with Eric Creel, minister, and Ray Bailey officiating.

Cremation was by Resthaven Crematory with arrangements by Freeman-Abel! Funeral Home.

Ms. Courtney, 58, died Wednesday, March 11, 1998, at Hi-Plains Hospital.

She was bom May 5, 1939,1n Hale Center. She moved to California in 1942 and graduated fromNorthHollywoodHighSchool in Calif. She had lived in California for 55 years where she worked as a computer engineer . .She was a. volunteer for Alcoholics Anonymous, Hospice and HIV.

Survivors include her mother, Evelyn Courtney of Hille Center; one brother, Philip A. Courtney II of Hale Center; one niece, Jenny Courtney of Alamosa, Colo.; and two. nephews, Robert Courtney of Colorado Springs, Colo. and Guy Thomas Courtney of Antioch, Calif; a great niece, Marina Evelyn Courtney, and a great nephew, Thomas Edward Courtney, both of California. ·

The family suggest memorials to Hospice of the ~ains, 4416 Olton Road, Plainview, Tex. 79072.

C of C Seeking Nominations Hale Center Chamber of

Commerce is seeking nominations for the "Citizenship Award" given annually to a deserving man or woman or CO!Jpie. The community's highest honor will be presented during the annual banquet, Saturday, April18. Last year's winners, Henry and Elouise Rieff, will present the award.

The annual award has been given annually since 1959. The winner of the first "Citizenship Award" was Claude Burnett.

Nominations, along with a letter of recommendation, can be mailed to the Hale Center Chamber of Commerce, Box 487, or may be taken to the Chamber office located at City Hail. Nominations will be taken until Friday, April3.
