The Blue Streak By Kieth Mullins

Last week the Owl'llost a close game to Hart 7·12. I thought the hitting and the play of our young men was very good considering the Matller conditions. Hartcaught us ofT guard to start the second half and got 1 touchdowns within 29 seconds or eaj:h other and that proved to be the difTerence in the· game.

OfTensively we moved the ball lbe Cirst hair real well. We just couldn't score when we got inside Ihe 20 yard line. Harl's defense did a good job slopping our running game up tbe lIliddle, and with all Ihe ice on Ihe neld II was touch to either run around the end or pass the rootball. Our only louchdown came on a halfback pass rr(fm Dwayne Johnson to Rudy Cavazos. Dwayne kicked the exIra point.

Defensively we played good except ror the 2 touchdowns they made. We simply had a couple of majnr mental breakdowns and let them get away. Stephen Trevino led the defensive scoring with 64 points. Vietor Luna was second wilh 44 points. JllmesCruz, Dwayne Johnson, Rudy Cavazos and Cody Dendele all had good gumes defensively also.

Twenty members of the singles set braved the cold night air Monday night for an evening of good food and fellowship at the local Dairy Queen. Following the meal most everyone returned to the Center Cor a variety of table games. The camaraderie enjoyed by our group is an excellent reason for those in our age category to come on out and enjoy Ihe fun!

The dining area at the Center has been enhanced this week with the addition of two beautiful paintings done by local artists. Ruth Bamell presented us with a painting honoring her mother,

• Minnie Stewan. Goldie Hillman's contribution was a painting done by Bertha McBeth. Both of the honorcc's were members of our group and we fccl ospecially favored to have these additions to our Center as a tribute 10 two lovely ladies. .

We're extending a big welcome to Essie Ware of Plainview who is taking over as head cook at the Center this week. Essie comes to us, well qualined for the position and we're sure Ira and Yolanda, who has been pinch hilling

! =cnlly, are more than pleased to have her. aboard.

Yolanda is our very competent bus driver and we do appreciate her nlling in when an~ where we need her.

Last weekend Belly and Roy, and

• annually. The weather ' was uncooperative. rainy and cold and no one placed in the cookoff. However they did enjoy a sightseeing tour of the Big Bend Country. Two other Hale

Centcrites, Gary and Nancy Bizzell have gOllen the "chili cookoff fever" and acted as judges in the event.

We're reiterating Ihis week, and stressing the availability of the van for nceds of the elderly in the community. Besides transportation to the Center, doctors' visits, grocery shopping also trips to Ploinview or Lubbock when necessary. Yolanda has proven herself to be .a competent, caring driver and those needing this service should call 839·2428.

Another reminder of our Thanksgiving dinner Sunday, November 17th. Tickets will be available this week at the Center -$5.00 (or adults and $2.50 for small children. Trays may be taken out ofthe Center the hours 11:30 B.m. until 1:30 p.m.

Next Monday night'S game and busincss meeting will start at 6 p.m. A pOl luck supper is first on the agenda, followed by the business meeting and election of officers.

Friday of next week we vote on the voluntcer of the momh.
