Last month, the Narita Admirals Club cel-ebrated its 5th Anniversary since relocating to Terminal 2.

In 1939, American Airlines opened the in-dustry’s first VIP lounge at LaGuardia Airport in New York, changing the way people travel at airports. Today, American Airlines has more than 40 Admirals Club locations worldwide, in-cluding locations in the United States, Canada, Caribbean, Europe, Asia and Latin America.

“Over the past 5 years, the Admirals Club has been providing customers at the airport, a relaxing atmosphere with superior hospital-ity and service. We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to our customers for choosing American Airlines and the Admirals Club. We will continue to work to further im-prove the level of quality and service.” said Chihiro Nishiura, American Airlines Premium Services Manager.

The Narita Admirals Club reflects both a traditional and contemporary Japanese culture. Blending natural materials such as a bamboo-featured wall in the bar area, a stone walkway leading to the five spa-like shower suites, wooden grids and tile paving throughout the club, they enhance a distinc-tive Japanese decor. Visitors can admire the interwoven style with traditional art, such as an exquisite antique screen and woodblock print series, to the modern pottery and finely crafted bamboo pieces found throughout the club.

Visitors can also relax to a welcoming at-mosphere, taking advantage of a variety of snack menus including salad rolls, Inari su-shi, tortilla rolls with teriyaki chicken and po-tato salad, maple pecan & ham and cheese hot pie, and stuffed olives.

Pricing for new memberships start from US$ 500, and One Day Pass is available for $50, which may be purchased at www.aa.com/AdmiralsClub or at any Admirals Club location.

From December 2012, Japan Airlines will commence new service between Tokyo (Narita) and San Diego utiliz-ing the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft with four flights a week from December 2012, and daily from March 2013. This new route is a part of the transpacific joint business between AA and JAL, and will be sold by both companies under codeshare agreement.

San Diego is the eighth most populous U.S city, also the city with the largest Asian community without a direct flight to Asia. Its surrounding areas boast flourishing indus-tries such as telecommunications, biotechnology, pharma-ceutical and medical equipment-related. Furthermore, it is situated 200 km south of Los Angeles and adjacent to the Mexican Border near the city of Tijuana where several Japanese companies operate factories.

This new route will follow the inaugural of Tokyo (Narita)-Boston service starting from April 22, further ex-panding the network from Japan to North America, and will provide customers with even more convenient service and a wider variety of flight options to choose from.

*Flight schedules are subject to change and are subject to government approval.

In addition, American may now display Hainan Airlines’ ‘HU’ flight designator on its flights between the U.S. and China (American currently operates Beijing-Chicago, Shanghai-Chicago and Shanghai-Los Angeles) and on flights operated by American within the U.S. beyond Hainan’s Seattle gateway.

Hainan Airlines is one of only seven air-lines in the world, and the first mainland Chinese carrier, to be ranked as a five-star airline in January 2011 in a worldwide survey of more than 17 million air travelers conduct-ed by independent research firm Skytrax.

DOT Approved Codeshare Between American And China’s Hainan Airlines

In ChinaWhat’s Going On

The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has approved American Airlines’ re-ciprocal codeshare agreement with Hainan Airlines of the People’s Republic of China.

“This decision comes after Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping appeared at the White House on Tuesday 14 February with President Barack Obama, who stressed that the U.S. is focused on building a better eco-nomic and strategic relationship between the two nations,” said Will Ris, American’s Senior Vice President – Government Affairs. “In this spirit, American applauds the president and DOT for their approval of the proposed code-share relationship between American and Hainan Airlines, China’s fourth largest car-rier,” said Ris.

Added Ris: “This new codeshare rela-tionship will promote travel and tourism and further strengthen economic and cultural ties between the U.S. and China. A codeshare re-lationship will allow American and Hainan to efficiently connect Chinese air travelers from cities throughout China to the U.S. via Beijing and Shanghai. Similarly, the approval will cre-ate more convenient travel options for U.S. consumers when traveling to China.”

As a result of the DOT’s approval, Hainan Airlines will be able to display American Airlines’ ‘AA’ flight designator on its flights between the U.S. and China (which are cur-rently only on the Seattle-Beijing route) and on its flights within China beyond American’s Beijing and Shanghai gateways.
