01Time is priceless. Nixon is a watch company that provides

high end timepieces for the extreme sports enthusiast.

I was instructed to design a skincare line for an existing

company that does not have a skincare line. I imme-

diately thought of Nixon. Their watches are strong,

durable and sophisticated. Through consideration of

Nixon’s identity I designed a unisex skincare line and

display. Much like their print ads the bottles feature

strong graphics. Their watches are sleek, unisex, and

sporty. The black and white bottles are lent to the sleek

but casual look of the brand. The illustrations speak to the

audience and gives the bottles the personality of Nixon.

PROJECT RVCA TOUR BOOK

Music is mobile. RVCA has always been supportive of

the arts with their Artist Network Program. The brochure

features a record with 4 tracks from 2 artists. RVCA has

a typographic and graphic style. I stuck close to that style

by placing type over an image and keeping close to their

typographic identity.

PROJECT WARRIORS: THE STRUGGLE OF SURVIVAL

CLASS TYPOGRAPHY 3

TEACHER LIAN NG

Survival is the goal of every species. After being given

a military manual on survival strategies for soldiers,

I came to realize that insects and soldiers use very

similar techniques in their struggle for survival. Through

typography and illustrations I connected their struggle.

I focused on ornate illustrations to represent the effort

and story that goes into everyone’s attempt at survival.

Along with using vintage photographs to share stories

I used pull quotes to focus on key points.

A good tea is hard to come by. I was assigned to rede-

sign a high end tea company’s identity and packaging.

Dragon Tea has perfected what it takes to make tea,

but their packaging was lacking the quality that their tea

possesses. They use premium tea leaves grown and pro-

cessed organically, which helps make for premium taste.

I wanted to show their superior product through their

classic packaging. I was drawn to illustrations that

represented the different ingredients that comprise

a good tea.

TEACHER BOB SLOTE

Small town prices with a big city selection. Maurice’s

focuses on providing small towns with stylish and

affordable clothes. They have an approachable shop

with amazing merchandising that draws customers in.

I wanted their website to be easy to navigate while still

having their signature style. I showcased their teal color

and urban style but incorporated a new photography

style that adds appeal to younger shoppers.

All angels deserve to be saved. I was drawn to Angels at

Risk. They help prevent teenagers to succombing to drug

addiction by targeting at risk teens. Angels at Risk believes

that teens are far more likely to develop a drug addiction if

they have been exposed to people with addictions or are

gentetically inclined toward addiction.

To catch a winner, use Penn Reels. Penn Reels are known

for their superior fishing products. Their packaging should

be no exception. The key to a good lure is attraction and

the same goes for a good package. Through the use

of photography and distinctive typography I designed

a packaging design system that exemplifies their high

quality products.

You need the right tools to flourish because gardening

is an art form. I was inspired by the Art Nouveau era.

I love how they focus on botanicals and feminine

forms. Gardeners treat their gardens like art projects,

sculpting and planning to create visual experiences. I

wanted to create packaging that, in itself is an art with

the styling of the Art Nouveau era in mind.

Results arise from kinetic energy, not potential. I have

always been intrigued with the conversion of energy to

a reusable source. After being assigned to design a

100 page book on a subject of my choice I decided to

explore my intrigue more. I decided to use 4 different

types of kinetic energy: windmill, bicycle, solar and tidal

energy. I used typography, photography and infogaphics

together to exemplify technical, kinetic and innovation.

Life produces mistakes, but Flora natural laundry deter-

gents can help correct life’s little mistakes. In order to

produce an affordable cleaning products line I designed

with minimal packaging. All materials are recyclable

and environmentally friendly. I hand drew their logo

from a traditional typeface to make the company more

approachable but still chic. In order to be able to reach

as many consumers as possible, I designed the pack-

aging to have minimal materials to keep it affordable.

Their decisions affect everyone’s life. When large corpora-

tions make environmental decisions, they directly affect

your everyday life. Coming from a logging family, I am

well aware how much our renewable resources are utilized.

Weyerhaeuser focuses their CSR initiatives to lessen their

environmental footprint and make our world a healthier

place to live. To show how their initiatives relate to our

everyday lives I adapted a day in the life of a girl. By touching

on how her everyday activities are affected by these initia-

tives, it becomes very personal.
